| Trenton — As Congress weighs a White House request for $60.4 billion in emergency relief aid for the states devastated by Hurricane Sandy, U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Charles Schumer said today they will propose an expansive package of tax breaks for residents affected by the disastrous storm. Dubbed the "Hurricane Sandy and National Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2012" the bill would allow taxpayers to deduct all expenses incurred for storm cleanup, waive penalties for early withdrawals from retirement plans, give exemptions to people who provided free housing to storm refugees and provide tax credits to disaster-damaged businesses that continued

And all this is on top of the property insurance coverage. Nice of Christie and Schumer and Menendez to relieve insurers of their obligation to pay out on claims for which they´ve been collecting hefty premiums all these years.
I´d dub this the Insurance Industry Bailout of 2013.

WHy should they get tax breaks if they are wanting the federal government to foot 100% of the bill? How come those in the middle of the country don´t get these kind of perks when they are hit with disasters?

So all one has to do is be in the path of a storm and voila they are due tax breaks. While those that have jobs, invest in this country and work their behinds off get there tax breaks taken away in the name of fairness. I hate my goobernment.

2014 isn´t even here yet for mid-term elections and already these two putz´s are doling out the freebies. Raising the taxes on the rich is already spent - $60+B for NY & NJ and now these tax breaks. It´s never ending.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
