A month after the bitterly fought election, President Barack Obama has his highest approval ratings since the killing of Osama bin Laden, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll, and more Americans say the nation is heading in the right direction now than at any time since the start of his first term. Obama´s approval rating stands at 57 percent, the highest since May 2011, when U.S. Navy SEALs killed the terror leader, and up 5 percentage points from before the election. And 42 percent say the country is on the right track, up from

Conclusive proof that approval polls are without meaning.
Zippy has done nothing to merit any approval whatever.
He has, it is true, given some speeches. Speeches help no one and change nothing.
He has voted "present" on the execution of four Americans in Benghazi. He has voted "present" on the genocide in Syria. He voted "present" on the dock strike in California.
He is so busy that he can take a 20 day, all-expenses paid, vacation in Hawaii for himself and his large entourage. I guess there are no problems in the country which require his leadership.

For this he is approved?

Anyone else wonder why polls like this would continue to be taken once the election is over and the guy can´t run for another term? Seriously, why waste the time and money?
Unless, of course, he isn´t quite as popular as they would like him to be and they must keep reminding us that he is more popular than Jesus.

This, in conjunction with the AP-reported "unemployment rate" of 7.3% after yesterday´s Gallup showing 8.3%, is a part of a well-coordinated media marketing campaign to make Obama look successful.

This is a gift from boehner and the republicans, worried about taxing some people that make over 250k and getting a serious black eye in the process. Let the dems have their tax increase, let them own own it, go over the cliff, and let the wealthy do what they are by history good at, which is just dodge the taxes anyway.

The approval rating of 57% was garnered by polling only demonrats and the selected dead ones. The 42% who say the country is on the right track came from polling only the grifters.

National security should serve policy objectives. It should not be a victim of political correctness. Politics should be kept especially far away from the practice of intelligence. Today´s decision by the NYPD to close the unit that was mapping Muslim communities in New York is very likely a product of political pressure. It is a decision that will make the city targeted in the largest terrorist attack in modern history less safe. I have gone on record in the past—on Al Jazeera, of all places—to explain why the program was a good idea and crucial to preventing terrorist plots in the future. In

Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence, an organization he hopes can eventually outmuscle the National Rifle Association. Mr. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, said gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda — even Democrats whose positions otherwise align with his own. “They say, ‘We don’t care. We’re going to go after you,’ ” he said of the N.R.A.

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
