| Many motorists don´t know it, but it´s likely that every time they get behind the wheel, there´s a snitch along for the ride. In the next few days, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is expected to propose long-delayed regulations requiring auto manufacturers to include event data recorders — better known as "black boxes" — in all new cars and light trucks. But the agency is behind the curve. Automakers have been quietly tucking the devices, which automatically record the actions of drivers and the responses of their vehicles in a continuous information loop, into most new cars for years.

Comments: Big Brother is everywhere and it´s getting worse every single day. The trial lawyers are probably salivating.

Is it possible for the owner to remove the device? Luckily I have an older car that doesn´t have one. This may put me off buying a new one (just like I won´t buy a new smart phone because they listen to the calls and track me). Yes I am paranoid.

I have been told that the black box is built into the air bag controller, so removal will prevent the air bags from functioning.

Another threat is the dongles that insurance companies want you to plug into your ODB II connector. They are also "black boxes" that tell the insurance company how you drive. If ODB III (On Board Diagnostics) is ever approved then the vehicle can be interrogated electronically for its operating conditions including, but not limited to, its speed.

They will also add GPS. You won´t know, because it is buried in one of the CPU chips. Its in many cell phones, so why not in your car?

Have you heard about the cameras that have been put on our highways? The only purpose of them is to take a photo of our license plate. I don’t know how long thes photos are stored. It is already being used in Maryland.

In the near future there will be a decree that all vehicles over 10 years old must be crushed. I think Japan already does this, but here it will be ´necessary´ to save the earth, ´American´ jobs and of course to make sure they know where everyone is and how they are driving. The kids like bigger government, to the point of mind numbing oppression so shut up.

Then there are the "smart meters" rather secretively put on our homes so utilities can be read from space -- and turned on and off when UN Agenda 21 decrees?? But the power companies, county commissioners, and mayors got a little something from the UN for compliance. There are lawsuits over whether these meters are also causing health problems. You can Google Smart Meters and investigate.

Much intrusion is already here in various ways with OBD II and untold other invasions of privacy. Other malefactors seem to gravitate to the Internet. Their default position seems to be, if you come to our site, we have carte blanche to search everything we can reach, and to treat anything we find as our property to sell, trade, manipulate, what-have-you.

As the investigation into the Obama administration’s handling of the attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi intensifies, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are seeking to conduct transcribed interviews with thirteen top State Department officials in the coming weeks in order to learn more. Those named in the letter include a wide range of current and former State Department personnel, from senior advisers to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to mid-level career officials with responsibility for diplomatic security. Among those officials: Jacob Sullivan, then deputy chief of staff and director of policy planning (and currently national security adviser to Vice

RON FOURNIER: I´m really not as interested in what the president knew two weeks ago. I´m more interested in whether or not the president or anybody working on his behalf in the White House or at the campaign had knowledge of or directed the targeting during the campaign, months ago. I´m not going to assume and we shouldn´t assume that the answer´s yes, but we sure as hell shouldn´t assume that the answer is no. We should be focusing on that, and, as you say Joe, the other thing is the credibility.

“We have a message for Attorney General Holder over at http://huffingtonpost.com,” read a message from the Huffington Post political Twitter account earlier this evening. The website´s home page is one big splash calling for Eric Holder’s exit from the Obama administration, suggesting that the news reported earlier by NBC News was the final straw for liberals who are critical of Obama’s attorney general. NBC News’ Michael Isikoff reported that Holder signed off on the search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator”authorizing seizure of his private emails. Attorney General Eric Holder signed off on a controversial search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator” in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, a law enforcement official told NBC News on Thursday. The disclosure of the attorney general’s role came as President Barack Obama, in a major speech on his counterterrorism policy, said Holder had agreed to review Justice Department guidelines governing investigations that involve journalists. "I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable," Obama said.

With so many scandals in the picture or looming, it’s easy to miss the fact that President Obama may soon become one of the most successful presidents in American history. I’m defining success as fulfilling Obama’s mission of substantially transforming America. The Obama administration scandals matter because, to one degree or another, they involve scandalous conduct. But step back for moment. In 20 years, very few people will remember any of them. By contrast, in 20 years — assuming that Obamacare sticks and Schumer-Rubio style immigration

President Barack Obama said today that there have been no "large scale" terrorist attacks on the United States since he became president. The statement comes less than six weeks after the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, which killed 5 people, injured 280 people (including 16 police officers), and forced the city to shut down while police conducted a door-to-door search for the terrorists. “So after I took office, we stepped up the war against al Qaeda but we also sought to change its course,” said Obama at Ft. McNair’s National Defense University in Washington, D.C.

The Boy Scouts of America today voted to lift its longtime ban on admitting gay Scouts but will continue to exclude openly gay adults from leadership roles. The vote by its 1,400 national membership came as no surprise to gay rights advocates, who hailed it as a first step to ending discriminatory practices in the 103-year-old organization. The ruling by secret ballot at a national convention in Dallas means that mothers like Jennifer Tyrrell, who is a lesbian, will still be excluded from the Boy Scouts.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state
