Pictures and calendars featuring half-naked women will be stripped from U.S. Air Force work spaces and public areas under a widespread inspection to stamp out sexual assault in the armed forces. Commanders and supervisors in all active, reserve and Air National Guard units have 10 days to complete the sweep for pin-up images or materials reminiscent of the all-male military from 20 or 30 years ago. Air Force chief General Mark Welsh said having a culture where such objectification of women is tolerated may be contributing to reports of sexual assault increasing to more than 700 this year
Generations of military men have had pin-ups. They are nothing new that would cause sexual assaults to ´´soar.´´ Political correctness always blame the wrong causes, for the wrong reasons! I´m all for women doing jobs traditionally done by men, as long as the standards are not lowered and no special accommodations, beyond restrooms and such, are made.
I´m surprised the Air Force isn´t already on board with the program. The Navy lowered the boom on this sort of stuff years ago. But guess what? It isn´t the pictures, posters, or magazines causing the assaults, it´s merely the presence of more women. As the Kid from Brooklyn would say: "Think about it!"
Where DO they get these generals? In case Gen. Welsh doesn´t know it, men have been drooling over nude women since the day Eve first appeared --- (Adam: "Hey, not bad...")
And listen, General Boobie, its not the pictures which lead to assaults. If it were, assaults would have begun skyrocketing in 1953 when Playboy was first published. But I can think of a couple of (politically incorrect)reasons why why they´re rising now.
How about insisting there´s no difference between men and women, paying no attention to the hormones raging at that age, then declaring that "separate but equal facilities" violates some tenet of equality. Everybody lives together, sleeps together, eats together, and cohabits together.
As a woman, I find this decision ridiculous and even offensive. So what they are saying is abuse if predicated by what a woman looks like, wears, how she appears, etc. ?? Looking at a good looking woman makes you want to beat her up or rape her?? Huh?? I thought we have been told time and time again, rape and abuse has nothing to do with sex or what a woman wears or doesn´t? Which is it?
Real men like to look at the female body in all states of dress and undress. This is not new but it is fantastic!! And as for the crap about looking at pin-ups (some of which, especially some of the ones form the WWII era, are as lovely as many works of "art" in museums) cause violence, that makes no sense at all.
A man appreciating the form of a woman who has obviously taken care of herself, shows off her God given beauties to her best advantage, and looks like prime baby making material, that´s called biology. Biology keeps the world turning and it´s pretty damn fun too.
Idiot policies like this have been going on in the AF for many years. They were mostly done locally by commanders who wanted to be able to say they were doing something about sexual harassment. One knucklehead PACAF general even made it a punishable offense to use language that might offend anyone, any time. Even in private. He put out a list of taboo words and then sent all his first sergeants around to all the barracks listening at doors. This was in 1992. All we could do was laugh it off. That or cry for what was once a great service.
The politicizing of the military proceeds apace. You´re not getting that star if you don´t cooperate. A picture of a naked woman is not pornography. It has been proven that erotic images do not provoke sexual assault. That being said, I don´t think a military facility should have any personal items on display. Keep your girlfriend´s picture in your wallet or in your locker. It´s not a dorm room, it´s a barracks.

But for a family worth 83 million dollars, you can bet those presents will be piled high under their various
(Photos) FALFURRIAS, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 2,200 pounds of marijuana Monday at the Falfurrias Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281 North. During an inspection at the checkpoint, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in a tractor-trailer. Agents used a mobile X-ray device to scan the vehicle, which revealed the marijuana hidden inside crates. When the agents opened the crates they found concrete benches and bundles of marijuana. The marijuana, which has an estimated value of more than $1.7 million, was seized
A tense exchange erupted during a congressional hearing into the problems associated the Affordable Care Act’s online insurance exchanges. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) probed Health and Human Services Sec. Kathleen Sebelius over whether the ACA’s payment and enrollment systems are functioning, given reports which indicate they are not. He let out a heavy sigh when Sebelius insisted that “The [Federally-Facilitated Marketplace] hub has worked beautifully from start to finish.” Burgess quizzed Sebelius about a private accountability report she commissioned six months prior to the website’s launch which indicated that the ACA exchanges website was going to experience a number of
Nicolle Wallace played the quintessential DC insider on today´s Morning Joe, proclaiming herself a "groupie" of both conservative Senator Tom Coburn and liberal partisan David Axelrod, while also saying she was "inspired" by Paul Ryan´s leadership in forging a budget compromise deal. But the Sooner senator wasn´t letting the inside-the-Beltway bonhomie blunt his criticism, saying the budget deal "sells out" what needs to be done, and gives up "core values." View the video after the jump.I´ll be back with the transcript. Note: Axelrod arguably had the best line. When Wallace said he was smiling because of the internal GOP rift
Pope Francis has been named 2013 Person of the Year by Time magazine - edging out NSA whistleblower and fugitive Edward Snowden into second place. Pope Francis, 76, who was elected in March to lead the world´s 1.2 billion Catholics, was announced as the winner this morning by Time magazine editor Nancy Gibbs on the Today show - no doubt bringing a sigh of relief to those who feared that singer Miley Cyrus of twerking infamy could be propelled to first place by a swell of internet votes. The other five final contenders in the running for the prestigious honor
A series of intimate behind-the-scenes photos aboard Air Force One have revealed the moment George W. Bush proudly showed off his artwork to Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama - and they look impressed. Other images reveal him sharing a joke with the president and casually chatting ahead of dinner as they flew to South Africa for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service. The luxury aircraft hosted a political reunion on Monday, as the two Presidents and three first ladies - Laura Bush, Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton - were on board. The Obamas retired to the President´s office and regular cabin at
When I was in high school, I joined the ROTC initially because I was attracted to the uniforms. I figured they would provide an opportunity to escape the constant berating by fellow students owing to my outdated clothing. I was fascinated with the guns and became an excellent marksman, winning several marksmanship awards. I also led a drill team, which was very advanced with the art of disassembling and reassembling military rifles in record time. I advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming the city’s ROTC executive officer and was offered a scholarship to West Point. I gained great respect for
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
