Kristol: GOP Should ´Acquiesce´ to Obama

| William Kristol, Editor of the Weekly Standard, seems to have decided that retreat is the way forward for the Republican Party. In a new editorial, the Fox commentator essentially advises the GOP to throw in the towel on the fiscal cliff talks and more or less accept Obama´s terms. In the piece, a dour Kristol details all the shock and depression that Republican insiders feel after losing an election they all thought was in the bag for Team Romney. He then goes on to complain that the GOP´s legislative scene isn´t any better than its failed electoral scheme.

Comments: Exhibit A showing why we are in the mess we are in. Un.be.lievable.

There is opportunity in this crisis. The trick -it won´t be easy- is to lay as many of Obama´s policy failures at his doorstep as possible. If this involves some tactical pullback to diminish the inevitable Democrat-media charges of obstructionism, the strategic objecive may require and justify it. The Republicans must at all costs avoid being backed into a corner where it will be plausible to a majority of citizens to blame them for the deterioration of the economy that Obama´s schemes are bound to cause. This is a delicate balance. Giving ground is not always the same as giving up. We may be looking at the political equivalent of the familiar military strategy of trading space for time, since time will be needed for the dire results of Obama´s fantasy economics to unfold. If Republicans are too inflexible and make a Last Stand on principle, refuse to give something on the tax issue, it will be easier for Democrats to blame them for the mess that is coming down the tracks. Democrats will blame our side in any event, but we want to avoid giving them ammunition to use against us.

That Kristol should speak on behalf of any Republican is really becoming rather stale.....the man is a lefty, a wolf in sheep´s clothing.....he is totally for the left and nothing else!Had Romney won he would be slobbering around his ankles, because in the end it´s about himself and he wants to ´sound credible´! I turn the TV off when I see that smug, self-satisfied moron grin on his mug!

It may well be the expedient thing to allow obama to have his way . It will put us all in a world of hurt, but - it will be the only thing that will penetrate the wooden heads and stopped ears from realizing what they voted upon themselves. On another point I don´t think Billy has been in full possession of his faculties for a long time.

The problem is that NerØbama won´t take "yes" for an answer. The only case "El Presidente" has is the rate increase on those earning over $250K. He campaigned and won on that. Fine. Agree to vote "present" on a bill that does that - and only that. Vigorously oppose everything else. The Dems will find reasons not to go along, of course. Fine. Go over the cliff. Then no more increases in the debt ceiling. None. Period. Finis. That, in the end, might be the "least bad" outcome from all of this.
This is all speculation, to be sure. "Orange-Man" Boehner will follow Kristol down the full acquiescence path. He will cave.

Kristol has a point. We should step back and let Obama and his media cohorts have their way. Republicans: Do not compromise, just let them struggle with their socialism. America is made up of those who will not accept tyranny, but in this case, going over the cliff is acceptable if it destroys Obama. And yes, the nation’s economy will collapse, along with it our already-damaged culture, but that may provide the impetus needed to Take Back America; perhaps as it was done once before: by force.

Great idea, Bill. Let´s "acquiesce" to our Dear Leader(US).
I´m sure that it will begin flowery reviews and accolades to the Republican party immediately. In fact, I´m certain that MSNBC will start treating all Republicans like the generous and wonderful human beings they are, and start singing "Kumbaya" all day long.
NOT!
Kristol may have a point that Obama needs to be held responsible for his failures. But I doubt that will happen in this lifetime. And the Guy who makes those decisions is beyond my pay grade.

Maybe you missed the point of what we, or at least I was saying...... My idea is to have Boehner(yeah, I know I know) tell the Minority Leader."You write the bill, we´ll vote on it....and then AFTER letting the Left side of the aisle vote, slowly........each member on the Right........vote present and walk out. Lastly, Boehner announces....."Your bill, your vote, YOUR CONSEQUENCES."
Give the People what they want........and then watch them burn their ´savior´.

I agree with #27.
Kristol´s solution will not do anything to generate support for the Republican Party rather it allows the Dem´s to demagogue the Republican Party when the economy collapses by saying if we didn´t compromise with the Republicans our solution would have been better for the economy.
As H.L. Mencken said "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
I say let Obama´s supporters get it good and hard!

Here´s my plan. Find someone in congress who is smarter than Obama. That´s step 1. Also in step 1, make sure he is not afraid to speak the truth about Obama destroying the country and the West, and not eligible to serve because of dual citizenship that stayed unvetted, and because he is a radical muslim marxist anti-American who is surrounded by enemies of the state, and has just committed massive election fraud that republicans refuse to investigate and so forth. In step 2, have him call a press conference, to announce he is resigning from congress to join some egglant styversant like the Heritage Foundation, because of the stuff delineated in step 1. Or this is too sketchy?

Thank you #26. We were told W was this great poker player. Uh-huh. When Romney´s campaign team failed to answer the lies and slander by Obama´s MSM for months, we were told "just be patient as Romney is so smart and his campaign knows what they´re doing." Uh-huh. Acquiescing to Obama´s wishes could be an opportunity for Republicans but in the end, they never actually make the touchdown. The term "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" or something like that - applies here.

I intant mute them and usually switch channels if i see that they are on or about to come on.They both whine and have absolutly nothing that I would add to my understanding or background on any issue they are on to discuss. If the democrats won´t cut spending, the house should defund all those worthless agencies i.e. Labor, Energy, EPA for starters. But that is of course if they had any b***s. Probably the first thing they should do is get rid of the speaker. This has become a total joke.

In 2007, then Senator Barack Obama appeared on CNN´s Larry King Live and called on U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign. Obama said Gonzales was acting more like the president´s attorney than the people´s attorney and viewed himself as an "enabler of the administration." "Well, I voted against Alberto Gonzales confirmation for precisely the reason we are seeing now. I said this on the floor of the senate, that although he seemed to be a capable attorney, he seemed to conceive his role as being the president´s attorney instead of being the people´s attorney," Obama said.

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
