| President Obama will visit the home of a middle class family in northern Virginia to talk about the importance of resolving the standoff over the fiscal cliff. "In response to the #My2K social media campaign, a member of this family shared her story about how paying $2,200 more in taxes next year would impact them if Congress doesn’t act," the White House said. The White House has been running a social media campaign encouraging supporters to tweet with the hashtag #My2K — explaining what a $2,000 tax increase would mean to them.

The emergency operating room where doctors tried to save President Kennedy´s life after he was shot has been broken into pieces and covertly stored in crates for years, guarded as if it were a state secret. As the 50th anniversary in November of the President´s assassination nears, an investigative team from local Dallas station WFAA went digging for the exact location of the broken tiles and medical equipment used on that fateful day. They found that the room was formally destroyed in 1972 when Parkland Hospital was going through an expansion and Trauma Room 1 had to be demolished.

Every Memorial Day, when I run into the grocery store to pick up those last minute items for the three day weekend’s picnic, I’m met with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selling their poppies. We cherish, too, the poppy red/ that grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies/that blood of heroes never dies-- “We Shall Keep the Faith” by Moina Michael -I remember as a kid that it was very common to see paper poppies being sold around Memorial Day. You could even go to the post office and purchase one

A 17-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were killed within hours of each other in separate West Side attacks Friday night, and a 29-year-old man was killed on the South Side, officials said. The youngest of the three killed was with an 18-year-old friend; both were shot about 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of North Central Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. GUJRAT, Pakistan- At least 17 children were killed and 10 others injured when a gas cylinder on a school van exploded Saturday in northeastern Pakistan, officials said. The van, carrying 20 to 25 children, caught fire after the cylinder exploded, Dawn News reported. The driver survived but a teacher was reportedly killed, the BBC reported. The children, ages 5 to 15, were just a few miles from their school in Gujrat when the compressed natural gas canister exploded.

Michelle Obama certainly knows how to work a room! In this case, it was a kindergarten classroom at Savoy Elementary School in Washington D.C., where the patrons were, well, pint-size. The first lady paid a visit to the youngsters, brightening their day with some silly dance moves performed in unison and imparting an important message about hard work and perseverance.Awww. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
