The Blue-State Suicide Pact
Forbes, by Joel Kotkin

Original Article

With their enthusiastic backing of President Obama and the Democratic Party on Election Day, the bluest parts of America may have embraced a program utterly at odds with their economic self-interest. The almost uniform support of blue states’ congressional representatives for the administration’s campaign for tax “fairness” represents a kind of bizarre economic suicide pact. Any move to raise taxes on the rich — defined as households making over $250,000 annually — strikes directly at the economies of these states, which depend heavily on the earnings of high-income professionals, entrepreneurs and technical workers.

Simply voting for Obama was a suicide pact for everybody. If you just look at Obamacare and red states bailing out on it,guess who´s going to lose jobs to those states? Blue ones, who are already bleeding jobs with their obsession with taxing success out of business.

Expecting liberals to think logically,is a lost cause. They see Obama as a living, breathing bailout king and that precludes any rational thinking about job creation.

Ivory tower historians love to look at European immigration to the US and talk about the flight from economic hardship while they studiously ignore the same sort of economic migration occurring in the present day. To acknowledge it would be to admit that their static-population redistributionist fantasies will collapse.

This is still the old "socialist vs. capitalism" argument. No matter how you paint it over, socialism is a decaying policy. It only exists to suck all the wealth from those that earn it, and gives it to those that do nothing while scraping some off for the ruling class. No real wealth being created, only destruction of wealth.
Get out while you can, the revolution has begun to destroy the wealth builders. Stalin has arisen again!

They voted for Obama because he is black and that trumps self interest.

Most of the productive people in those blue states probably opposed Obama. They just aren´t in the majority. And now they will be punished the most.

Unfortunately, liberalism and its offshoots are like a cancer and I´m sure the disease will spread to red states as well. Too bad we in the sane states can´t just sit back and enjoy the show, but will be dragged into the worse mess this once great country will become.

The "rich" don´t vote for Republicans. I´d go ahead and raise the rate on people making more than a million (not a paltry $250K) and give that crowd exactly what they voted for. And all those Obama loving grifters who Bush absolved from paying any income tax at all... go ahead and put them back on the rolls... a little civic responsibility wouldn´t hurt that crowd either.

reality will reassert itself eventually ..... and this is not a prediction but the likely result of the fiscal & economic policies the Dem Party under Team 44 has aggressively embraced. An a lot of crony capitalist big businesses are folowing in the wake of all this as well. Look how well that turned out for the the bancks & Wall Street that bought into the mortgage securitization bandwagon. Dow 15,000 anyone?

But then the ´news´ media & academia, who are key boosters of Team 44, will never report of acknowledge such. So many believe that academia & the ´news´ media are essentially ´neutral´ when they have become propagandists.

So while your neighbors and friends delude themselves, believing there is no real downside to Team 44´s policies, all one can do is quietly prepare, position and trade off the those moments when reality looms its ugly presence. No one can predict the future or has a crystal ball, but a sense of reality and patience are one´s best shields in this environment.

Eric Holder versus journalism

Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the warrant naming Fox News journalist James Rosen a “possible co-conspirator” in violation of the Espionage Act, Michael Isikoff reported yesterday. Which is sort of awkward, because Barack Obama also yesterday told the country (the whole country) that he didn’t want to criminalize reporting, and that he was going to ask his Justice Department to make sure not to do that anymore. Rosen wasn’t charged. In truth, the government never really intended on charging him. (Snip)That’s the scandal: That the government could charge a journalist with, effectively, spying, simply for reporting.

Of all the scandals in his administration that President Obama knows nothing about, the one Americans find most appalling is the decision by the Internal Revenue Service to target the president’s political adversaries. What’s more, as subsequent congressional testimony has made clear, the IRS isn’t particularly repentant about its actions. One thing Republicans and Democrats should therefore be able to agree on is that this is no time to significantly expand the IRS’s power. Yet that is exactly what will happen under Obamacare if no action is taken. A simple proposal: Remove the IRS from any role

Rookie Florida Senator Marco Rubio continues to work tirelessly to get the United States to annex Mexico, though an exhaustive (and exhausting) search of his 2010 election campaign reveals no promises to do, nor even a mention that he might consider doing such an outlandish thing. Au the contraire, the pre-election Rubio said all the right things about line-cutters and lawbreakers. That’s one of the reasons he’s a senator today. There are only two sure consequences of the current 800-page immigration hairball before Congress. The first is that a minimum of 11 million citizens of other countries, more Mexicans

President Obama dreamily wants

President Obama declared on Thursday that it’s time for the U.S. to leave behind the global war on terror. He might first try convincing America’s war-waging global enemies to do the same. Almost a dozen years after 9/11, the President wishfully hopes to demilitarize national security in the age of Islamist radicalism. He judges the country ready for such a step because a long fight has markedly degraded the attacking capacities of Al Qaeda and affiliates. Even so, Obama dared not utter the word victory in his address at the National Defense University, because plainly the hostiles are still coming

In a strange true-life story that seems ripped from TV crime drama (rather than the other way around), a New York City man was kidnapped and held for ransom for over a month, before the NYPD rescued him this week. Pedro Portugal was grabbed off the street in broad daylight on April 18, and held hostage in a Queens warehouse (pictured above) while a group of men attempted to extract a $3 million ransom from his family in Ecuador. Police in both countries (with the help of the State Department) tracked down the kidnappers,

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”

Amid catcalls from a Leftist heckler too blitheringly stupid to understand her dream was coming true, President Obama yesterday declared his intention to end the War on Terror — not quite 12 years since the 9/11 attacks. In what may have been the most important speech of his presidency, Obama said he would ask Congress to join him in efforts to “refine, and ultimately repeal,” the Authorization to Use Military Force passed three days after 9/11. In other words, he intends to write the War on Terror out of US law. “This war, like all wars, must end,” he said.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
