| NYPD officer Larry DePrimo was unaware that he had been caught on camera giving a homeless man a pair of socks and weatherproof boots he had purchased for him. A passing tourist from Arizona, Jennifer Foster, caught the selfless act and sent it to the NYPD Facebook page. The photo has gone viral and has generated mixed reactions from activists for the homeless who assert that DePrimo´s compassion does not represent the NYPD´s routine treatment of the homeless. That may be their viewpoint but Officer DePrimo reminds me of the cops I knew as a child when I lived in Spanish Harlem.

I don´t believe the homeless man was a "con man". Many deeply disturbed persons roam our streets because roaming is what they do. They spend most of their lives disoriented due to alcohol, drugs, or dementia.
A fair amount of the time this man probably didn´t recall that he had a home or funds other than to take them to buy more liquor. He got handouts he was entitled to under our present system, but really didn´t utilize them. The system perpetuated his incapacity. He wouldn´t live with his own brother´s family in another city because what he does is all he knows.
Officer DePrimo performed an impromptu kind act. The man thanked him. He also said later that he had to hide the boots as someone would steal them from him.

What ever happened to the story about the begger with the great voice living on the streets and saved to become a voice over performer?
Officer DePrimo will be forever remembered for taking matters into his own hands, and wallet and buying those boots and socks.
Likewise he will always be razzed by his fellow cops for being a chump. There is no school like experience.

Anyone razzing this officer should hang their head in shame. He gave from his heart, a selfless act of kindness. He is a human being that did something out of kindness, not a psychic.
If this had been an act of self promotion, he would have known full well the individuals background and chosen someone else. He obviously had tools for that. (background check)

I worked in law enforcement for 27 years. I married a cop.
No one outside of law enforcement will ever understand the lives they live, what they see, and how it impacts their lives and their family´s lives. They will always have my utmost respect and I am grateful they are there.
Their sacrifices are only matched by the members of our military and their families.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago.
