The Rice Question
New York Times, by Roger Cohen

WHEN Thomas Pickering took up the No.3 position at the U.S. State Department in 1997, his attention turned to Sudan. The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum had been vacated the previous year after the C.I.A. reported threats, but Pickering wanted the mission reopened in a country that had harbored Osama bin Laden until May 1996 and had more experience than most with violent Islamist extremism. “The intelligence reports that prompted the closure of the embassy were false and I felt strongly that the embassy should be reopened,” Pickering, who has served as ambassador

Everything I read about this woman is that she is unremittingly blunt. And that she believes she knows best. These are not helpful traits in a SoS.

It looks to me like there´s long knives within the dem party trying to sink Rice, the question is who are they coming from.To me it´s actually pretty crazy for Obama to stick with her as old wounds will be reopened during hearings. There´s plenty of fodder to smack her with besides the Benghazi whitewash. That doesn´t even include her abrasive personality.

My guess is people in the state dept. want someone in the mold of Hilary so their boat doesn´t get rocked.Kerry is someone like that.

Obama never intended Susan Rice to be nominated. She´s a diversion, a red herring. He knows that opposition to her would be so bad he could nominate someone worse and get away with it.

#3 I think you are right. He did it to irritate, and to inflame, so when he throws someone like Kerry out there, people will actually breathe a sigh of relief. Wwll, some will. Old tactcic.

He displayed evidence of this yesterday when he stated he dis not have to pick Rice, and again later when he said his mind wasn´t made up.

Basically, he used her for Benghazi, and she has outlived her usefulness. The right is not incensed enough to make going through it worth it. That is what he feeds off of, the rage.

Egregious Republican attacks?

So at the very end of the article the author cites her "several significant achievements". Only one "achievement" was mentioned, if one thinks Libya´s outcome supposedly fits that category. Ridiculous.

Forget all the rationalizing about who opposes her and what her personality problems are. This will all come down to one thing: what can she do for Fauxbama? Oh yes, and one other thing, what is Moochelle telling him to do?

Typical NYT article full of liberal opinion thinly disguised as ´facts´. But never mind them. Rice is described as ´blunt´ by the liberals and ´arrogant and obnoxious´ by the conservatives which actually makes her a perfect fit for the WH circle. It will boil down to how well she gets along with Valerie Jarrett. Can´t have two harpies competing for Obama´s attention now can we.

If you buy this article, you are being played. This reflects pro-Hillary thinking and notice, Benghazi is buried in the second half (talk about burying the lede) and Rice´s perfidy is minimized in favor of her not being diplomatic enough. Don´t let´s reject Rice as SoS in favor of Kerry/Hillary.

Before the cannons fired at Fort Sumter, the Confederates announced their rebellion with lofty rhetoric about “violations of the Constitution of the United States” and “encroachments upon the reserved rights of the States.” But the brute, bloody fact beneath those words was money. So much goddamn money. The leaders of slave power were fighting a movement of dispossession. The abolitionists told them that the property they owned must be forfeited, that all the wealth stored in the limbs and wombs of their property would be taken from them. Zeroed out. Imagine a modern-day political movement that contended that mutual funds and

Elizabeth Warren Is Rewriting History

In a new book released today, Massachusetts Democratic senator and potential presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren attempts to rewrite history regarding the controversy surrounding her “Native American” ancestry that emerged in the 2012 Senate campaign. What’s remarkable is that, at least in the initial book reviews, the press largely allows her to get away with it. In fact, it’s virtually ignored that to this day Warren still refuses to release any law school records that may shed light on this controversy. To be fair, most reviews note that Warren has never substantiated her claims of Native American heritage, which is true.

Legal Insurrection, by William A. Jacobson    Original Article

Wendy Davis’ campaign has had its problems. The revelation that her life story of personal struggle and triumph as a single mother was embellished was a game changer. Her campaign has had a communications problem as well, playing media favorites and putting Davis on stage with a shotgun in a Dukakis-in-tank moment. The video of Davis’ supporters mocking Greg Abbott’s disability was cringe-worthy. Her flip-flop then flop-flip on late term abortion alienated her base, as did her endorsement of open carry. All of this led the left-wing site Wonkette to issue a satirical appeal to readers, Let’s Help The Wendy

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning

Supreme Court to rule on use

Washington Post, by Robert Barnes    Original Article

After years of litigation, the Supreme Court on Monday said it would decide if Congress or the State Department has the final say in whether U.S. passports acknowledge Jerusalem as part of Israel. This touches on one of the most sensitive issues in decades of Middle East conflict, and the case also presents a major separation-of-power conflict between the legislative and executive branches. The controversy is over a 2002 law passed by Congress regarding passports. It says that a U.S. citizen born in Jerusalem may request his or her birthplace to be listed as Israel. This was an attempt to nullify

In what can only be called a gracious historical act, a newsreel archive company called British Pathé has uploaded 85,000 historic films on YouTube—in high resolution, no less. The collection spans from 1896 to 1976 and there’s obviously a lot of great stuff to comb through that ranges from politics to art to culture to sports. One video that has caught The Daily Caller’s eye is the one below, in which American birth control activist Margaret Sanger (here called Margaret Slee, which was her second husband’s name) sternly demands that the women of the world have “no more babies.” The snippet was filmed

Chelsea’s baby will remind voters of Hillary’s age—or it’ll make her more relatable. Or it’ll make her forget politics altogether. A look at the ludicrous search for political fallout. OK, I get it. The arrival of Baby Clinton-Mezvinsky will be a boon to Hillary Clinton’s presumed candidacy because it will humanize her, softening what remains of her Lady Macbeth image. It will prove so helpful, according to one radio flannel-mouth, that it was likely an act of strategic planning. No, wait. It will seriously, perhaps fatally, damage her prospects, because the “grandmother” label will remind people that she will be 69 in

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.
