The Rice Question
New York Times, by Roger Cohen

WHEN Thomas Pickering took up the No.3 position at the U.S. State Department in 1997, his attention turned to Sudan. The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum had been vacated the previous year after the C.I.A. reported threats, but Pickering wanted the mission reopened in a country that had harbored Osama bin Laden until May 1996 and had more experience than most with violent Islamist extremism. “The intelligence reports that prompted the closure of the embassy were false and I felt strongly that the embassy should be reopened,” Pickering, who has served as ambassador

Comments:
Everything I read about this woman is that she is unremittingly blunt. And that she believes she knows best. These are not helpful traits in a SoS.

It looks to me like there´s long knives within the dem party trying to sink Rice, the question is who are they coming from.To me it´s actually pretty crazy for Obama to stick with her as old wounds will be reopened during hearings. There´s plenty of fodder to smack her with besides the Benghazi whitewash. That doesn´t even include her abrasive personality.

My guess is people in the state dept. want someone in the mold of Hilary so their boat doesn´t get rocked.Kerry is someone like that.

Am beginning to suspect that McCain was part of the scam.

Obama never intended Susan Rice to be nominated. She´s a diversion, a red herring. He knows that opposition to her would be so bad he could nominate someone worse and get away with it.

#3 I think you are right. He did it to irritate, and to inflame, so when he throws someone like Kerry out there, people will actually breathe a sigh of relief. Wwll, some will. Old tactcic.

He displayed evidence of this yesterday when he stated he dis not have to pick Rice, and again later when he said his mind wasn´t made up.

Basically, he used her for Benghazi, and she has outlived her usefulness. The right is not incensed enough to make going through it worth it. That is what he feeds off of, the rage.

Egregious Republican attacks?

So at the very end of the article the author cites her "several significant achievements". Only one "achievement" was mentioned, if one thinks Libya´s outcome supposedly fits that category. Ridiculous.

Forget all the rationalizing about who opposes her and what her personality problems are. This will all come down to one thing: what can she do for Fauxbama? Oh yes, and one other thing, what is Moochelle telling him to do?

Typical NYT article full of liberal opinion thinly disguised as ´facts´. But never mind them. Rice is described as ´blunt´ by the liberals and ´arrogant and obnoxious´ by the conservatives which actually makes her a perfect fit for the WH circle. It will boil down to how well she gets along with Valerie Jarrett. Can´t have two harpies competing for Obama´s attention now can we.

when you have more than 90% of blacks voting for barry, that is taking racism to the highest degree.

If you buy this article, you are being played. This reflects pro-Hillary thinking and notice, Benghazi is buried in the second half (talk about burying the lede) and Rice´s perfidy is minimized in favor of her not being diplomatic enough. Don´t let´s reject Rice as SoS in favor of Kerry/Hillary.

Since when is Obama known for his loyalty? This is what is perplexes me. She´s a weakened candidate, but he still backs her. Intense dislike for the rich white guy, or could it be, she knows something?

I live in North Georgia, have no connections, and average awareness of world events. I knew as soon as it hit the news that this was a planned attack. This rice woman lied to the public because Hillary knew this farce would not fly, so she is to be rewarded for telling a bald face lie?

There´s more than ample evidence that the woman lacks the very personal skills required by the job... like being diplomatic, for starters.

Obama Denies Role in Government

WASHINGTON —President Obama used his weekly radio address on Saturday to reassure the American people that he has “played no role whatsoever” in the U.S. government over the past four years. “Right now, many of you are angry at the government, and no one is angrier than I am,” he said. “Quite frankly, I am glad that I have had no involvement in such an organization.” The President’s outrage only increased, he said, when he “recently became aware of a part of that government called the Department of Justice.” “The more I learn about the activities of these individuals,

OVER the last decade, the United States has become a less violent country in every way save one. As Americans commit fewer and fewer crimes against other people’s lives and property, they have become more likely to inflict fatal violence on themselves. In the 1990s, the suicide rate dipped with the crime rate. But since 2000, it has risen, and jumped particularly sharply among the middle-aged. The suicide rate for Americans 35 to 54 increased nearly 30 percent between 1999 and 2010; for men in their 50s, it rose nearly 50 percent. More Americans now die of suicide

In the days after the Benhazi attack, the State Department scurried to cover up its failure to heed warnings of such attacks while the White House scurried to cover up the fact that that attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists of the sort President Obama supposedly had largely vanquished. The final Benghazi “talking points” and Susan Rice’s talk show appearances represent the product of this scurrying. To help advance the narrative that the Benghazi attacks were spontaneous, and thus (a) not to have been anticipated and (b) not linked to al Qaeda,

TORONTO - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, a target of criticism for his often unconventional conduct, on Friday denied media allegations that he had been caught on video smoking crack cocaine. "Absolutely not true," Ford told reporters gathered outside his west Toronto house, before driving off in his SUV. Reporters for the Toronto Star and Gawker Media said late on Thursday they had watched a cellphone video that appears to show Ford smoking crack, although both news outlets said they had declined to pay the $100,000 price asked by the tipsters,

SAN DIEGO — In the ocean off Coronado, a Navy team has discovered a relic worthy of display in a military museum: a torpedo of the kind deployed in the late 19th century, considered a technological marvel in its day. But don´t look for the primary discoverers to get a promotion or an invitation to meet the admirals at the Pentagon - although they might get an extra fish for dinner or maybe a pat on the snout. The so-called Howell torpedo was discovered by bottlenose dolphins being trained by the Navy to find undersea objects, including mines,

It´s not Obama´s fault... It´s Bush´s!

It must be George W. Bush’s fault. Everything else is. The moonbats’ verdict is in. Barack Obama couldn’t possibly have done all those terrible things the vast right-wing conspiracy is accusing him of. And they’re not scandals, either. Obama’s troubles are merely “controversies” or, to use Dear Leader’s own phrase, a sideshow. Scandals only happen to Republicans, just like Deval Patrick didn’t go on a junket to Ireland. It was a “trade mission.” Democrats never make mistakes either — “mistakes were made,” in the passive voice.

Jay Carney insists Benghazi, Libya, is not a scandal, but then he doesn’t admit to having misled the media about the origin of the attacks. The administration now tells CBS News, “We’re portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots. It’s actually closer to us being idiots.” It would be nice if the source specified what part(s) of the administration were idiotic and why it’s “closer” but not all attributable to incompetence. The problem with claiming incompetence is two-fold. First, it raises the question as to where the president was on Sept. 11, 2012,

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
