| House Republicans´ tightrope walk over fiscal discipline is getting even trickier, with demands for monstrous federal funding in response to Hurricane Sandy forcing them to consider more spending. The call for Sandy relief funding coincides with an epic and protracted battle on the Hill over the looming fiscal crisis -- with Republican leaders caught between a conservative base that wants big spending cuts and zero tax hikes, and Democrats that want modest spending cuts and big tax hikes. Distraction. Don´t nibble, don´t bite.
GOP House leaders should refuse to get involved now. Refuse totally. No discussions at all.
Obama already has authority fund up to 90%. Tell NY and NJ to forget more until the fiscal cliff and debt limit crisis is resolved.
Speaking of distractions. Those state exchanges for ObamaCare were so very important a week ago. Quiet now. Won´t stay quiet.

If the politicians/bureaucrats in the states would stop the federal government from removing all the money from their states, the states would have money to take care of their own problems. The federal government should not even be in this disaster-fixing loop. It´s the states´ problem.

More bloat for the bill. We are growing numb to the word trillion now. How long till quadrillion becomes and everyday word with regards to budget and spending? It wont be long folks, it´s not as absurd as it sounded even a year ago.

Though I´m still cutting and haulling wood out of my back yard every weekend, I was lucky.
I understand the extra cost my town has in picking up piles and piles of trees in front of each house, and the costs to deal with intersections where lights failed. But other than that, why is any level of government involved? (After getting the fools that wouldn´t leave to saftey, and rescueing those that did not need to evacuate, yet had trees fall on them).
If you look at each person/business individually, how is this any different than their house/business being destroyed? I understand the scale, but really why is it any different.
Maybe I could see low cost loans to help people with hurricane deductibles, but they didn´t apply in this case. So folks are out their standard deductible, and LOTS of heart ache (can´t minimize that) just as if a fire burned their house to the ground.
Where did the Davey Crockets of the country go?

Sheldon Whitehouse has apologized for remarks Monday in which he linked Oklahoma "cyclones" to climate change while berating Republicans for their stance on the issue -- around the time a massive tornado killed dozens in that state. A Whitehouse spokesman said Tuesday the politically charged remarks were pre-written as part of the senator’s weekly Senate floor speech on climate change. “Tragically and unbeknownst to the senator at the time, a series of tornadoes were hitting Oklahoma at the same moment he gave his remarks,” the spokesman said.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?"
