Obama to fill key posts in weeks,
Hagel on Pentagon shortlist

Washington - President Barack Obama is expected to announce his nominees for secretaries of state and defense in the next two weeks, with former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel on the short list of potential choices to head the Pentagon, senior administration officials said on Tuesday. Hagel, whose appointment would give Obama´s reshuffled second-term Cabinet a bipartisan cast, met the Democratic president at the White House this week to discuss a post on his national security team.

Comments:
Liberal enough for compliance.
Republican enough for Obama to get accolades for showing bipartisanship.
Republican enough for receiving blame when things go wrong.

Better Hagel than Panetta. Panetta belongs back in California running a bakery & sandwich shop.

Too bad at least 17 pubbie state´s electoral delegates don´t have the stones to not show up, so the electoral college doesn´t have a quorum and the house gets to pick the president. Of course, boner would most likely pick o´tard if that opportunity were to present.

Unbelievable. Hagel was nuts ten, twenty years ago, and I doubt he´s better now.

I always have thought Hagel mentally unstable and not very competent, which is why he could serve in the Obama administration.

#2, as you say. See, the Pubbies DO have some tools to fight with at their disposal. They just don´t care enough about their country to USE them.

Hagel has always been a Democrat in disguise who claims to be a Republican. He just does what is best for Hagel.

When I read the article, my first thought was that there must be something wrong about Hagel. By reading the posts, I was absolutely correct.

MONROE, La. — In a matter of days, Republican Vance McAllister has gone from being the unlikely congressman — a special election winner who trounced his party´s establishment candidate — to the "kissing congressman," a faith-and-family politician caught on video embracing an aide married to one of his friends. Amid some calls for his resignation, he has said he will respect the verdict of his constituents this fall. Residents interviewed here by The Associated Press expressed disappointment, but not surprise.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A serial killer was put to death Thursday in Texas after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his lawyers’ demand that the state release information about where it gets its lethal injection drug. Tommy Lynn Sells, 49, was the first inmate to be injected with a dose of newly replenished pentobarbital that Texas prison officials obtained to replace an expired supply of the powerful sedative. Sells declined to give a statement. As the drug began flowing into his arms inside the death chamber in Huntsville, Sells took a few breaths, his eyes closed and he began to snore.

PITTSBURGH – A 5-year-old bows her head at lunch to say Grace before she eats may be considered cute and heartwarming by some. That was not the case for a student in Florida. The young girl was told by a school lunchroom supervisor that her actions were wrong. The girl’s father, Marcos Perez, is outraged to the point where he is considering homeschooling his child. Today, the Liberty Institute sent a letter to the school administrators demanding they stop allowing religious discrimination, which is in violation of not only state, but federal law. The school denies the incident.

ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith appeared on Arsenio Hall and gave a stirring commentary regarding L.A. Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant’s unorthodox comments on why he wouldn’t want to wear a hoodie in honor of slain young black man Trayvon Martin. On the night of February 26, 2012, the 17-year-old Martin was killed by “white Hispanic” George Zimmerman after an altercation; after a jury acquitted Zimmerman in July of 2013 on manslaughter charges, it ignited a public outrage in many communities across the nation.

East Lansing, Mich., The stories of friends and loved ones inspiring players and coaches in the NCAA Tournament often are as memorable as the games themselves. Every so often, they can transcend the madness taking place on the court. The tale of Princess Lacey and her "Superman" from Michigan State is one such story, a lesson in friendship that warms hearts before melting them. Princess Lacey is 8-year-old Lacey Holsworth from St. Johns, Mich. She continues battling neuroblastoma, a nerve cancer, all the while drawing strength and joy from Spartans center Adreian Payne. Princess Lacey and Superman first met last

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it
