WASHINGTON — House Republicans sent a counterproposal to avert the "fiscal cliff" to the White House on Monday outlining a $4.6 trillion deficit reduction proposal without raising tax rates. (Snip) The Republicans´ proposal is based on a framework outlined last year by former Clinton White House chief of staff Erskine Bowles, who co-chaired Obama´s debt commission, and included an increase in the eligibility age for Medicare benefits. Republicans did not offer specific language on raising the age in their proposal, but Bowles has supported raising the age to 67. Boehner called it a "la-la land

Heard that the tax increase on the 2% would run the government for 7 days.

How is Fauxbama going to take Moochelle to Hawaii if he has to keep running the government? Oh, I forgot, he doesn´t run anything but his mouth.

Step back from the scary words and consider this:

- The "fiscal cliff" gives us a 9% cut across the board in federal expenditures. You won´t get that through negotiations.

- Yes, it raises taxes. But it raises ALL taxes so EVERY American shares the pain in some way.

- Let´s just see how the Obama voters like it when THEIR incomes are in the crosshairs to pay for Big Bird and lobster research.

- Then in 2014-2016 let the GOP campaign as the Party seeking ACROSS-THE-BOARD tax cuts for ALL AMERICANS

I´m a Cliff-Diver because I don´t believe we can get the necessary spending cuts to rein in the Federal Leviathan in any other way. And I´ve been lied to about the "crisis" way too much.

Well, that didn´t take long. As usual, I´m impressed with "timeliness" of the Dems´ "consideration" of Republican proposals.

So, go ahead, Mr. Boehner, write it up and pass it in the House; then send it to the Senate. If (or when) the bill stalls in the Senate, or if Mr. Obama refuses to sign it, then the fault is on the Democrats.

When the president´s plane goes wheels up for Hawaii, then Speaker Boehner should adjourn the House and go home, promising to call the House back in session when the president returns from his 3-week vacation on the beach.

I am getting contrary in my golden years so I am of the mind to bring on the fiscal cliff. When the government tells us we will all die a terrible death financially, I am reminded of the same squawking in September of 2008 when they "saved" us. Personally, I believe it is about time that everyone has skin in the game. If we are truly in such dire straits won´t these Americans who receive goodies from the government want to do their FAIR share. Well, I think it´s time for the takers to be educated on the concept of nothing is ever free and the bill is coming to their door too.

Anybody else notice the similarities between the GOP leadership and a "battered woman?" We see every excuse in the book accepting the abuse dealt out by "the winners." We hear, "they mean well", "my esteemed colleagues across the aisle", McCain and Kerry winking and nudging one another.....Washington is a steaming pile of corruption, and the only thing I can see that our GOP "leaders" oppose in Big Government is that they didn´t win the battle to see who gets to administer it.

The article says that Obama wants to avoid another debt ceiling limit fight in February as the last one "rattled" Wall Street. Oh, please, like it is the fight, not the amount of debt, that scares Wall Street.

Going over the cliff would put 427 billion of revenue into the government coffers in 2013, only 42 billion of it from the Rich. He also will get Obamacare taxes of 24 billion. And he will be forced to make the Sequester cuts.

This wasn´t his plan. He planned to step by step raise the higher brackets while protecting the redistribution brackets. Give it all now and then he needs to make matching cuts. He and the press will blame the GOP no matter what.

Propaganda press wants him to have all that he wants. Anyone who earns and saves will be punished for their trouble. The dictator and his minions in the senate and his cheerleader propaganda machine all want the same thing. Our republican leaders don´t want any negative ´publicity´ so they will cave. Here´s the deal, put your final fiscal package together, send it to that mixed bag of feces in the Senate with an attached note... ´Last and final offer. Take it or leave it. See you next year. You ain´t passed a budget for four wasted years so we don´t hold out much hope´.

The Republicans are now forced to deal with the consequences of allowing Obama to define the terms. Those who own businesses and create jobs have been demonized as "the wealthy" for two years with no pushback from Republicans. No calling out marxist propaganda for what it always has been. So they are now somehow surprised that they have been backed into a corner on it?

Grow up. You can´t win the "tax the rich" argument now because you surrendered on it two years ago, so just hold your breath and take a big bite of the big brown sandwich. But at least make the middle tax tax rates permanent, not just a two year extension. At least get that.

I know. I know. I´ve been arguing for across the board rates. That´s just my anger at Republicans. You won´t get it. He´ll just veto it and make you eat it later.

And why in the world did Boehner NOT show up in front of the cameras frothing at the mouth screaming at anyone who would listen that Obama is pushing for dictatorial powers with unlimited power to raise the debt limit? The Republicans should have been tag teaming this non stop for the cameras 24 hours a day. You can´t control the narrative unless you CONTROL the narrative. Anyone who thinks this was just an over the top throw away negotiating chip has not been paying attention.

Everyone seems to forget that an election is an indication of the national character. You can´t fix the result if you over
look the cause. A society that is losing its moral base will chose for president the person who reflects that direction

Treasury officials were made aware in June 2012 that the IRS inspector general was reviewing the office that handles tax-exempt applications, but a letter from October shows that the inspector general did not highlight the audit as a top concern for the agency. In a memo dated October 15, 2012, to then-Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner about IRS challenges for 2013, Inspector General J. Russell George noted other problem areas, but made no mention of the investigation taking place at the time of the agency´s intense scrutiny of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

It eventually comes down to who — who at the IRS was responsible for targeting conservative and Tea Party groups for special scrutiny. Because, after all, you can’t put a “system” in jail. You can’t put a report in prison. You can’t indict a department for corruption. At the end of the day it’s people who are responsible for using the enormous powers of the Internal Revenue Service to go after other people and groups because of their political beliefs. U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) told the tale of one of his constituents who applied for tax-exempt status for her Tea Party group in July 2010.

In House testimony Friday, former Acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller explained that the IRS mistakes in handling applications for non-profit status from tea party groups were due, in large part, to a flood of applications following the Citizens United decision. Miller said the targeting was a botched attempt to centralize the process to account for the increased workload. There were fewer applications in 2010, when the IRS began targeting conservative groups, than the year before, however. (Snip)Moreover, the IRS reportedly abandoned the targeting in early 2012. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
