NRSC’s Jerry Moran confronts
GOP schism

Politico, by David Catanese

Incoming National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Jerry Moran said he’s begun speaking with GOP senators about whether the party’s campaign arm should intervene in future primaries, even consulting with anti-establishment kingmaker Jim DeMint. “We’re going to on a race-by-race, state-by-state basis, try to figure out what is the best role the NRSC can play in getting Republicans elected,” the first-term Kansas senator told POLITICO in an interview. “I don’t think we have any choice but to work to do things better than what we did, based upon the lack of success that we had.”

Close the primaries, allowing Dims and other freaks to pick our candidates is stupid beyond belief.

Please no more Christine McDonnels or Sharon Angles or Richard Mourdocks. Whatever you do, don´t send us more of those.

I think it´s a good idea. We can keep out the Mourdocks and Angles, but also the Susan Collins, etc. if we work together. It would also be good for the committee to give the conservative candidates money, instead of bellyaching about their selection. And yes, close our primaries.

First realize that any Republican is better than any Democrat.

Then, elect Republicans in those areas that reflect their state.
Yes, that will be more liberal and moderate in New England areas, and California.

Get the MAJORITY! Only then can you rule, and set policy.

Remember, more people means more money to support that gov´t will be required.

Focus on how tax revenues(from oil, nat gas and coal) help fund those priorities - Republicans are in gov´t, and use gov´t resources too.

Agree #4. I don´t agree that every candidate has to be this perfect conservative, that is unrealistic. We need to vet these candidates better. The candidates need to have canned answers for some of these social issue questions and not answer some of these hypothetical questions. If we hadn´t put up the ´perfect conservative´ we might have two more seats in the senate.

Future GOP senatorial candidates will only be asked questions about abortion, women`s rights and what do you plan to do for the `poor`. As a consolation question, why do republicans hate minorities?

It`s all downhill from there....

Hope Senator Moran does a better job than the last incumbent. For instance, don´t try to second guess the people--when they make a choice, support that choice unequivocally, don´t undercut them.

I agree #1. I´m thankful that PA does not allow any of the shenanigans that other states have adopted, allowing others to select the candidate or candidates that we have worked for and allowing for progressives to find loopholes for fraud. Who on this thread is so rude as to say Shut Up to a commenter? A troll?

After primaries each candidate should have training on how to answer questions regarding sensitive topics. The beliefs of the candidates are not so much the problem (except in the case of the Missouri Senator candidate). They need a tactful was to give an answer or to say the question is off topic considering the concerns of the voters for that term. They just need training period.

Reports are flying across the Internet about the possibility that Apple’s satellite map app just snapped a pic of the elusive “Loch Ness monster.” Long speculated to be a relative of the dinosaur-era plesiosaur, many have chalked the rumors up to baseless monster talk. Until now. (Photograph) Could this satellite imagery hold a clue that scientists on the hunt have been missing? Could the Loch Ness monster be real?

Bunkersville, Nevada — Cliven Bundy’s ranch, recently the site of a tense stand-off that started over two weeks ago between the federal government and the Bundy family, had morphed into a good old-fashioned family picnic complete with live country music, hamburgers, and hotdogs Friday. A week after the Bureau of Land Management’s armed force left Bunkersville, Bundy and his supporters continue to make the family’s case relating to Bundy’s right to graze his cattle on public land his family has been on for many years. Bundy told Breitbart News the only communication he has received from the BLM recently has been

The president´s speeches may need to be accompanied by a laugh track from now on, considering the crickets he received at his appearance in Community College of Allegheny County, in Oakdale, Pa., on Wednesday. Although he tried to tout his new spending program, both Obama´s talking points and attempts at humor didn´t go over so well: At the end, when the president walked back from the podium to smile and wave at the roughly 60 people in the bleachers 20 feet behind him, he faced a unfriendly wall of faces. The White House video of the bleacher’s front rank shows three men with their hands crossed, one with his hands stuck

The Clintons had a busy night of celebrations after Chelsea announced she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are expecting a baby. Bill joined “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey at the Revlon Rainforest Fund Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall Thursday, joking of Spacey’s Machiavellian character, “When I was president people accused me of murder all the time, made a show of investigating. Spacey’s president for 15 minutes and he gets away with murder.” Spacey, who sang during the event with Sting, Stephen Stills and James Taylor, also showed off his Johnny Carson impression, taking a swipe at the coverage of Flight

Two Democratic Party candidates in the primary race for California´s 33rd congressional district in West Los Angeles have accused local party officials of using an arbitrary fundraising minimum to favor established insiders--then raising that minimum at the last moment to exclude them from a recent candidates´ forum. Democrats Kristie Holmes and Barbara Mulvaney issued a joint press release earlier this week, accusing the Pacific Palisades Democratic Club (PPDC) of "uninviting" them from a forum on Sunday, April 13 "after first zealously pursuing them." Only candidates who participated were eligible for the club´s

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. The Ogden-based community bank has all of 13 branches including

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.
