NBC uses NFL murder-suicide
tragedy to make plea for gun ban

During halftime of NBC’s coverage of the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Dallas Cowboys, NBC Sports analyst Bob Costas made a plea for gun control during his weekly commentary on “Sunday Night Football.” Costas — responding to the murder-suicide committed over the weekend by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher — relied on a column by writer Jason Whitlock, formerly of the Kansas City Star, to make the gun control argument. “Well, you knew it was coming. In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, that most mindless of sports clichés was heard yet

Comments:
Ever since Costas criticized Dennis Miller for supporting Bush, I have not been able to even consider him credible. This just compounds it.

Senility is such a sad thing. Why doesn´t NBC retire their poor, demented idiot, and save themselves embarassment at the drooling ravings of their idiot?

Guns do not kill and they can protect one from being killed. The NFL thug had drinking, drug and emotional problems.
Gun control is the plan of 0bama and his lap dog media lovers.

If a person wants someone dead, he or she will find a way to kill. Guns are a means to an end, as are knives, etc. One needs to look into each individual situation to find the why.

NBC has the worst sportscasters - like Nerdy Bob Costas. But then again, NBC is the absolute worst network, so no real surprise.

I really think they should ban football or at least change it to only flag football. That way there would not be as much concussions and injuries.

It´s football itself that needs to be banned, you know, all those head concussions turning football players into homicidal maniacs.

Nobody really knows what happened here yeat and guns are blindly being blamed. Reading between the lines, this looks like a typical cake and eat it too situation, where the guy wants a GF at home but stays out late. When he gets home, the GF starts nagging and he snaps. After realizing what he did,he knew he would be in jail the rest of his life so he kills himself.

This happens countless times a year in this country. there´s an epidemic of abused women for precisely this reason. It´s part of the culture to run other women on the side.

You rarely hear of a legal gun owner doing something like this because they want to preserve the integrity of the 2nd amendment.

Those who can, play. Those who can´t just talk about it. Costas´ stupidy is caused by football and exposure to TV cameras.

Maybe #18 is right. The gooberment probably wants to do away with football anyway.

Costas is just a news reader and commentator.

I hope he hears from a lot of people today. I´m going to try to contact NBC and Costas.

The gun may have been the deviced that killed him, but you can´t blame the gun, this young man was in trouble and those around him ignored the signs. If a gun wasn´t around it would had been some other device to do the deed, such as pills, a bridge or CO2. Stop using personal tragedy to make a case to ban gun sales.

What is really disgusting and depressing about "The gun made him do it" response to such tragedies is the denial and trivialization of the human predicament. Murders and suicides of passion are as old as the human race. To pretend otherwise, to play like the capacity for such horrific evil does not constitute one of the incorrigible elements of the human heart is willfully shallow and ignorant. Equally foolish is the rush to blame such crimes of passion on concussive head injuries or other extraneous factors. Human beings are perfectly capable of committing such atrocities without any such additives. I cannot recall if the Bible tells us how Cain slew his brother Abel, but it is a safe assumption that he neither used a firearm nor suffered from brain damage from professional sports when he did so.

Gun control fanatics only disclose by their simplistic explanations and solutions how little they understand human beings, including themselves.

Yet Bob doesn´t say a word about alcohol which combined with cars kills more people every year than legal gun owners ever have. Guess he never thought about being proactive on that subject. Yet he felt compelled to pipe up about reorganizing a fundamental fact of humanity.

I wish someone would ask this tiny man why he is cheering for more rapes, robberies and murders of law abiding citizens. When you disarm innocent people, you do NOT protect innocent people. So shut your yap, you pontificating punk. You are in way over your head.

These rage motivated murders compounded by alcohol and illegal drug use happen all the time in black communities in the big cities.

Because of political correctness issues the media does not say much about that, so clearly the media interest here is driven by the fact that the perpetrator is an NFL player featuring the fact that he committed suicide in front of his coaches, and downplaying the fact that he murdered a person before that.

And or course in keeping with their philosophy of not allowing any crisis to pass without making some sort of political hay, the liberal Democrats and their media minions are popping up blaming access to a gun and pushing gun control.

It´s pretty clear that this guy, an NFL linebacker, would have had little trouble in murdering his girlfriend without a gun by beating her to death, or stabbing her with a sharp edged weapon.

At the time of the raid, Gibson Guitars CEO Henry Juszkiewicz told Hugh Hewitt on his radio show that the feds confiscated tonewood imported from India for the guitar Gibson manufacturers which would result in a cost of $2 to $3 million for his company. At a great expense in legal fees and time, Juszkiewicz fought the federal government tooth and nail.

For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development.
