Poll: Republicans Getting Massacred
in Debate Over Tax Increases

Breitbart News, by John Nolte

Original Article

Posted By:smcchk, 12/2/2012 7:13:56 PM

How is it that the GOP is so feckless and ineffective that it can´t even convince the 48% who voted for Romney that raising taxes on those making over $250,000 is both pointless and bad policy: Sixty percent of all Americans back higher taxes on higher incomes in the new Post-ABC data. Earlier this month, an identical 60 percent of voters in the presidential election said income taxes should be raised on income over $250,000, according to the national exit poll.

Comments:
They lost this battle before it began. Give it up, GOP.

I´m sure President-Elect Romney is concerned after reading these always-accurate polls?

Heard on ´meet the press´ today (on radio, so do not know who it was) - if there is no deal, dems will let the Bush tax cuts expire, and then in January propose a new bill that reduces tax rates back on 98% of the population. So they will get what they want.

There is no substitute to winning elections.

Several GOP members of both Houses have already indicated their willingness to raise taxes before a single dem raised the issue. Not only does this behavior show how stupid they are but it proves both Boehner and McConnell have no control over their membership.

With friends like the republicans who needs enemies.....

The war on truth is On like Donky Kong!

Just got an email from MoveOn.org... informing me that the Senate has Passed Obama´s tax bill but the House is holding it up !!!!!

This is coming from Obama´s micreants who have big megaphones...

Some nice GOPer needs to go on morning talk shows & Leno... and Tell The Truth!

The only arguments I hear against raising taxes are the ones I mutter to myself. The GOP is absolutely horrible at marketing their postions.

Despite the fraud, the election taught me that a wide swath of America no longer has an instinct for our founding principles and must be re-persuaded of their value. We have a lot of work to do!

The polling of how people feel about increased taxing of the wealthy should be no mystery - First it was big oil, then big insurance companies, big, bad Wall Street - anything to divide the country along economic measures. Is it any wonder that after 5--6 years of this garbage that people dislike anyone or any thing that earns more than they do? One of the most essential revisions to our tax system has to be that ALL people pay Federal income taxes taxes - EVERYONE! With no skin in the game, almost half of the population couldn´t care less about any tax policy or amount.

Reply 7 - Posted by: gesundheit, 12/2/2012 8:10:23 PM     (No. 9045021)

The majority of the Republicans serving in the House now were elected two years ago based on pledges that they would not raise taxes.

They honored their pledges and most of them were re-elected last month based on the same pledge.

It should not matter to them what the 99% of poll respondents living outside their districts think about tax increases.

Next year, when Congress reconvenes, the Republicans in the House will propose a bill restoring the Bush tax cuts, and it will pass because Republicans will be in the majority. If Nancy Pelosi wants the Democrats to propose a bill that increases taxes on anyone it will not pass because the Democrats are in the minority.

Then, if Obama and the Democrats want to restore the middle-class tax cuts that went over the cliff with everything else, they will have to pass the House´s bill restoring all of the tax cuts. This should give the President something to think about while he´s golfing in Hawaii.

What real cuts are being proposed?
If the only way to get cuts is to let the tax rates go back up, then at least there will be some kind of cuts. More cuts could be negotiated from there.

Rob from the rich and give to the poor.

Give them exactly what they want...and deserve. I´ll be poppin´ the corn. Can´t wait to watch the disaster play out.

It´s just human nature to want to make someone else pay. Even my mom, who voted for Romney, thinks we should raise taxes on the top 2%.

Reply 12 - Posted by: oh-heck, 12/2/2012 8:22:12 PM     (No. 9045035)

Really, the Dems would write a law extending Bush tax cuts for 98% of the people for just one year? And what are they going to do about the cuts in Sequestration? And what about all the new taxes Obama is proposing? I don´t think it will help them to show everyone just what is coming next year when the extension runs out. Their strategy is to get the GOP to cave.

I do not understand why folks do not see that 0bama and the Dimms want to blame the Repugs for the upcoming fiasco created by 0bamacare and his other failed policies.

Let the Dimms own the freakin economy for goodness sakes. Let them raise taxes on the "rich" for a year or two. It will be seen as a failure like all of 0bama´s policies.

The Repugs are trying to prove a negative (raising taxes will hurt the economy). Apparently the ignorant electorate needs to be educated by experience.

Take a moral stand and make the Dimms produce an agreed upon budget before we agree to more deficit spending.

Sadly, upcoming retirees who plan to sell their home to downsize will more than likely be taxed at a new obama capital gains tax, when added to state and city, like here in NY, could total 60%.

The GOP couldn´t sell a glass of water to a man dying of thirst. Barry is completely incompetent in general, but he is excellent at picking fights and ridiculing his opponents. The GOP should curse him and his groupies by letting them to lead. This is what the stupid electorate deserves. Who is John Galt?

Interesting. I suspect that the same fraction of the electorate would have supported raising income taxes on incomes over $100,000. Or $75,000. Maybe $50,000 would begin to lower support. Message is that such persons will support raising taxes on anyone who earns more than they do, with the understanding that the taxes realized will be distributed among them.
What a way to make tax policy!

I am 76 years old and all my life I have heard nothing but "the Republicans are for the rich and the democrats are for the common man". It´s that simple. America despises rich people and love the "unfortunate" poor folk that the rich stole from. Just that simple and it will never change.

Reply 22 - Posted by: Rama41, 12/2/2012 9:14:27 PM     (No. 9045074)

I´m afraid it´s lose-lose for us. Before the election, Obama told an Iowa editor in his "off the record" interview that he expected us to go over the fiscal cliff. When we do, here´s what to expect: A January state of the union speech reiterating that it´s all the Republicans´ fault and a proposal for the largest tax cut ever for the 98%. He now becomes the tax-cutter in chief. Game. Set. Match.

We all understand the principle of not raising taxes on the 2% but the GOP lost control of the message from the start. There is no way to win this battle. Walk away, let it happen and try to figure a way to be smarter next time. As for the Democrats, be careful what you wish for comes to mind!

Call me an apostate (I doubt that´s what you´ll call me), but I don´t see why we couldn´t raise taxes on the top one percent. In our utter failure to explain this issue to the public, we´ve probably lost forever.

And the ´attitude´ of the poster above who says he´s top 1% is duly noted. I wonder if whatever he would do would be a matter of absolute financial necessity - or something else....

Not true #21, we don´t despise the wealthy. We either revere them (professional athletes, actors, singers, etc.) or we are jealous of them (royalty, businessmen, heiresses, etc.) At the end of the day, the liberals want to be those people, heck they are those people. Perhaps it is time to showcase the wealth that is sitting in Congress, the Supreme Court and the White House.

I read and generally like the Breitbart sites but I don´t understand their current obsession with these polls on who is winning the debate. The Dems own the media so of course the GOP will get the blame, they can have the best arguements but they will still lose. What matters is if they cave on the budget, not if a handful of people who are polled think the GOP are big meanies.

Any reasonable or effective rebuttal to the propaganda put out by the lamestream media will never see the light of day because it would defy the "conventional wisdom" of the media outlets controlled by themselves. We need Allen West to do a "susan rice Sunday show trip" and explain the true meaning of a "spending cut" at all of the morning talk shows.Washington cuts are really just a reduction in growth, rather than a true reduction in spending!

It’s a good thing that we dumped all that Western canon as the work of a bunch of old dead white guys or the phrase, “Let them eat cake” might have some resonance when a political leader eliminates hot meals for Marines but scarfs down Chocolate Opera Cake. As of June 1, Camp Leatherneck in southwestern Afghanistan will close its 24-hour sandwich bar and stop producing the hot meals traditionally offered during the midnight-ration service. Sara Stokes remembers well the night she became homeless. It was the end of January, but warm like spring. She and her boyfriend at the time, the father of her toddler, were fighting at their apartment. He swung her around, choked her and busted her lip, she recalled. "And I´m like, this dude is really going to kill me if I don´t leave," Stokes, 19, said. [Snip] Stokes´ grim experience is just one example of a growing number of youths who are homeless in Illinois. California is on the verge of a new gold rush. Expanded hydraulic fracturing -- or "fracking" -- at the Monterey Shale formation is sparking estimates that 15 billion barrels of oil could be accessed, along with millions of jobs and huge contributions to the domestic energy supply. Even the state´s green-friendly Democratic governor, Jerry Brown, says "the potential is extraordinary." But standing in the way is a flurry of anti-fracking bills. At last count, 10 were on the table, all introduced by Democrats seeking tighter controls over the controversial technology. [Snip] California State Sen. Fran Pavley, a longtime environmental

Priorities, priorities. Witnesses claim it took London police 20 minutes to show up and stop the two Muslim killers. The official police narrative is something like 9 minutes for the unarmed police and 14 minutes for the armed police (those crazy Americans with their guns everywhere, really.) But when it comes to something truly serious, like protecting Muslims from elderly British women, then the coppers were on the case. “An 85-year-old woman has this afternoon been arrested after abuse was hurled at Muslims outside Gillingham Mosque. A mass exodus of Christians is currently underway. Millions of Christians are being displaced from one end of the Islamic world to the other. We are reliving the true history of how the Islamic world, much of which prior to the Islamic conquests was almost entirely Christian, came into being. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom recently said: “The flight of Christians out of the region is unprecedented and it’s increasing year by year.” In our lifetime alone “Christians might disappear altogether from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt.” Ongoing reports from the Islamic world

Thousands of people with serious medical problems are in danger of losing coverage under President Obama´s health care overhaul because of cost overruns, state officials say. At risk is the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, a transition program that´s become a lifeline for the so-called uninsurables -- people with serious medical conditions who can´t get coverage elsewhere. The program helps bridge the gap for those patients until next year, when under the new law insurance companies will be required to accept people regardless of their medical problems.

Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.
