| The worst drought in decades may shut down the Mississippi River to barge traffic this month costing thousands of jobs. KMOX reported: It’s an issue that has plagued states along the Mississippi River for months and has now landed squarely on the desk of President Obama: how to prevent the imminent shutdown of commercial traffic along the nation’s largest waterway. From what I recall #1, there was severe flooding a few years back but some government agency decided to let the river go where it wanted and it´s a master (i.e. idiot) plan to reverse years of flood management. There is truly not one thing the government gets involved with that it doesn´t totally screw up.

--the flooding of several years ago resulted from Mother Nature depositing a large amount of spring snow in the upper Missouri drainage ,followed by a whole bunch of spring rain which filled every river, reservoir and low spot, causing the water to --surprise--run downhill----to the Mississippi---

The drought is really bad over a wide swath of the country. Our area has barely gotten 9" of precip. since Jan. 1st - and almost none in the last two months.

Note that the lame-brained author does not state the specific location of the possible closure point. ´Rocks´ and ´Missouri´ are mentioned so evidently the river would be closed from around St.Louis and upstream from there. There are definitely no rocks in the bottom of the Miss river in the Delta region, which begins in Arkansas/Tennessee and continues to the Gulf. Sheesh, what kind of ID10T writes an article for publication and leaves that kind of information out?

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room on Tuesday evening where he was asked to respond to former Vice President Dick Cheney who told Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace that the junior Kentucky senator was wrong when he criticized the NSA’s surveillance programs. Paul tore into the Bush administration’s role in the establishment of the post-9/11 security regime, noting that he thinks it is possible to catch terrorists using methods consistent with the Constitution. Cheney told the Fox News Sunday host that Paul was incorrect in his criticisms of the NSA’s communications monitoring programs.

Domestic spying capabilities used by the National Security Agency to collect massive amounts of data on American citizens could soon be available to the Department of Homeland Security — a bureaucracy with the power to arrest citizens that is not subject to limitations imposed on the NSA. Unlike the DHS, the NSA is an intelligence agency, not a domestic law enforcement agency. It cannot arrest those suspected of wrongdoing. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
