| Birmingham, Ala. — The former rector of the nation’s largest Episcopal church has become a Roman Catholic. The Rev. Larry Gipson was dean of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham from 1982-94 and rector at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, where his parishioners included former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, from 1994-2008. As I understand it, if an episcopal priest disagrees with his denomination on the issue of abortion, that priest, even if married, may be ordained a roman catholic priest. But if his wife dies, he may not remarry and remain a roman catholic priest.
This new procedure appears to be an expansion of the previous procedure. And if enough married episcopal priests become roman catholic priests, the pope and college of cardinals may come to realize that married priests are OK. That could lead to ordination of priests who are allowed to be married, without going through the episcopal faith first.
Sounds ok to me.
(disclosure - I am a remarried former catholic, now a lutheran, and taught for two years at a catholic university. And the priests there were dreadfully lonely and isolated. So my view of married priests is influenced by my friendships with some of those priests.)

Priests in the One Holy and Apostolic Church, the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church (before the 13th century) all had/have married priests and it all worked well except for the nepotism that became rampant in the RCC that had to be corrected.

#5, I have seen more married deacons than priests at religious ceremonies I have attended. Where are the priests--are there not enough anymore?

I admire Rev. Gipson because he shows great love and and respect for the Anglican Church even as he is being received into Catholicism. Graciousness is certainly a gift from God. Welcome home, Fr. Larry.

Anne Hendershott, an eloquent opponent of the Obama administration, states that she has reason to believe she was targeted by the IRS for an audit following publications that were critical of President Obama and Catholics who supported him. How big of a wake-up call are the Obama scandals, especially the ones surrounding the seizing of phone records from the Associated Press and the IRS´s targeting of conservatives? So big that two of the media´s most shameful and shameless gun control advocates -- Joe Scarborough and Piers Morgan -- have finally conceded that arguments made by pro-Second Amendment activists against the expanding of background checks might not be so ridiculous. In a roundtable discussion on Friday´s "Morning Joe," Scarborough said that because of the IRS scandal, “My argument is less persuasive today because of these scandals.”

Russell George, Treasury Inspector for the Tax Administration, said his audit found “clear evidence” that the allegations of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeting conservative groups seeking tax exempt status are true. “Was the IRS using inappropriate criteria in its review of organizations applying for tax-exempt status?” George said. “Yes. Was the IRS delaying their applications? Yes. And finally, did the IRS ask inappropriate and unnecessary questions of applicant? Yes.”

According to USA Today, a Sergeant First Class in charge of sexual assault prevention at Ft. Hood is being investigated for sexual assault and for running a prostitution ring. The solider, whose name is not being released, oversaw sexual assault prevention for "about 800 soldiers." He has yet to be charged, but authorities say the investigation revolves around charges of "abusive sexual contact, pandering, assault and maltreatment of subordinates." This includes "forcing a subordinate into prostitution and sexually assaulting two others."

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men.
