| NORFOLK, Va.- The U.S. Navy says it won´t be possible to turn its first nuclear aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, into a museum after its decommissioning Saturday. The ceremony took place at the ship´s home port of Norfolk, Va., with scores of dignitaries and former crew members on hand to reminisce and sing the praises of the ship and its 51-year service record. The "Big E" will be towed to Puget Sound in Washington, where its eight nuclear reactors will be removed and the rest of the ship cut up for scrap.

But nuclear power just isn´t ´safe´ enough for general usage !
The Left not only embraces every bad idea but they insist on killing all the good ones.

I would not mind my tax dollars being used to convert the Enterprise into a national museum. However, successive Congresses going back decades have spent us into such a hole, there is simply no money for such a project.

If we were not throwing away all our money on welfare, "green energy," and other government nonsense we could save this historic ship for future generations. As it is, we´re saving nothing at all and putting into the bondage of debt those future generations. God save America.

Way to go, UPI. You rival AP, etc.
From USS Enterprise Public Affairs, via Navy.mil: "Enterprise, the world´s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, recently completed its 25th and final deployment and returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled inactivation, held prior to the ship´s terminal offload program and subsequent decommissioning."
Mo. Rons. At UPI. Inactivation ceremony. Got it? Not, repeat not, decommissioning. [Where´s my baseball bat?]
Re status: the only US Navy ship in commission longer is the USS Constitution. Yep, Old Ironsides.
USS Enterprise, CVN 65, is the 8th US Navy ship to carry the name. She was originally to be conventionally-powered [oil-fired boilers], but was changed to nuclear power [eight small A2W machines, with Westinghouse-designed ores]. She´s also our only carrier with 4 rudders, not two.
All 10 Nimitz-class carriers have two, much larger reactors. They are later Westinghouse designs, the A4W. Having attended both the christening and commissioning of USS George H. W. Bush, I can tell you, these ships are far bigger than you think or imagine.
#4: Somewhat scrambled stories first said Shatner was to attend, then that he had cancelled. I don´t have info I trust on what the outcome was.

Things could hardly have broken better for Republicans these last few weeks -- a trio of scandals, all combining to embarrass the Obama administration at the same time. But now, a growing number of Republicans are worried their party will screw it up. For every cry of "impeachment," there´s a louder cry from the GOP establishment not to get too far ahead of themselves, at least not yet. Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus says he´s not worried about a "political strategy," instead he´s "concerned with" the same thing "the American people are concerned with," which is "just getting to

A Navy dolphin training to look for mines off the coast of San Diego found a museum-worthy 19th-century torpedo on the seafloor, military officials said. The brass-coated, retro wonder of technology was one of the first self-propelled torpedoes used by the U.S. Navy. Just 50 of these so-called Howell torpedoes were made and only one other example has been recovered; it sits in the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Wash., outside of Seattle. The 130-year-old, 11-foot-long weapon was discovered back in March during a mine-hunting exercise that the Space and Naval warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) was conducting with bottlenose dolphins.

The Department of Defense confirms to NBC 5 Investigates that accused Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan has now been paid more than $278,000 since the Nov. 5, 2009 shooting that left 13 dead 32 injured. The Army said under the Military Code of Justice, Hasan’s salary cannot be suspended unless he is proven guilty. If Hasan had been a civilian defense department employee, NBC 5 Investigates has learned, the Army could have suspended his pay after just seven days. Personnel rules for most civilian government workers allow for "indefinite suspensions" in cases "when the agency has reasonable cause

Not since George Wallace, perhaps, has an Alabamian taken as passionate a stand for a lost cause as the one Jeff Sessions is taking now. Bipartisan immigration legislation is making its way inexorably through the Senate Judiciary Committee. Although its ultimate fate is unclear, its passage by the committee is assured, and conservatives on the panel such as ranking Republican Chuck Grassley (Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (Utah) are doing what they can to improve the bill. Even firebrands such as Ted Cruz (Tex.) and Mike Lee (Utah) are holding fire. Then there’s Sessions. The wiry Southerner is on a one-man

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington and Ralph Bunche and Langston Hughes and George Washington Carver and Ralph Abernathy and Thurgood Marshall and, yes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These men were many things to many people and they knew full well the role that racism played in their life. WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

"Can you see in your mind´s eye a way that this might not have been political, that this was a misguided stupid way to sort, but that they didn´t intend it to be some kind of political attempt to harass the Tea Party?" So actually asked CNN´s Candy Crowley of her guest Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) concerning the Internal Revenue Service scandal Sunday (video follows with transcript and commentary):CANDY CROWLEY, HOST: Moving on to the IRS problem at this moment, which is really sort of in its infancy. There will be lots more hearings coming up this week

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
