There is an antique saying -- no less true for its antiquity -- that you need to be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. This came to mind when I read a recent report about what is happening at a Pennsylvania college. One of President Obama´s most loyal -- not to say fawning -- constituencies clearly is academia.(snip)This is why the news about the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is so richly ironic. CCAC has just announced that because of ObamaCare, it will have to slash the hours of 400 of its employees

3 jobs will be needed to work 40 hours a week.

Unemployment will also go up. Question is, how much?

Combined with the fiscal cliff, another recession could be coming. Just like the Roosevelt years...

The dirty little secret of the academic world is that fulltime faculty hold adjunct faculty in low regard, and will stiff them in a new york minute, to preserve their own jobs.
So I don´t expect to see much of a protest in the academic world over this health care mandate.

True, #2. Adjunct faculty are treated like garbage in most colleges. Some of them do as much work as the full-time people for about a tenth of the salary.

To add to #2´s correct observation - ´´Professor´´ Barry Obama was an adjunct instructor whilst at Chicago. And no, he was never offered tenure.

Adjuncts do a lot more work in the classroom than the tenured faculty. The tenured faculty are too busy playing academic politics, publishing books and articles that no one reads, and latching on the latest left-wing causes. Since they have tenure, they have the work ethic and drive of the average unionized Hostess baker. Henry Kissinger said that the politics of academia are the most fierce because there is so little at stake. I used to be an adjunct but quit when I realized that ALL of academia is just a giant scam. Academia exists primarily to provide cushy, overpaid jobs for far left-wing liberal Democrats and to provide a training ground for future liberal activists. There is no room for a conservative in modern academia.

Some of these over-rated so-called "perfessers" are so wrapped up in themselves, as a result of being pampered, adored and sucked-up to, that they can get away with saying most anything that sounds good and liberal. Most of these over-educated, white guilt-ridden, Volvo-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, bottled-water-drinking, Politically Correct, Xanax-disabled, Valium-dependent Liberal nincompoops could be standing in the middle of the rubble called Detroit getting the snot beat out of them and they´d still insist they´re right!

#14 gets the Post of the Day Award! We adjuncts have worked our butts off with no compensation for prep time or correcting papers or anything other than actual class time. That sucks. What also sucks is the way we are looked at and treated by full-time liberal jerk faculty. And dont get me started on applying for full time slots...twice I was passed over by fat black "chairwarmer" lazy women and once my application went into the garbage can(my wife witnessed this) when the person in charge of hiring realized I was Italian and not Hispanic! I am telling you the truth! I could write a book about the inequities of being a white conservative veteran in academia! It sucks! The entire system needs revamping, a complete overhaul....NOW!

I am afraid there will be no outrage by the moronic constituents that voted for BO a second time. One, because when the bleep hits the perennial fan, they will be too embarrased to speak out, and two, the never-ending lable of being a racist will chill any sort of criticism (even those who did not vote for him).

His racist rant is a thinly veiled suppression of speech and debate, like China, Russia and the ME. And it is being blindly followed by the press, schools, colleges, films and theater.

My only consolation in this disaster of an election is that the people who voted for the Kenyan are the ones who will likely suffer the most under his reign. For most conservatives, it mostly will be higher taxes. For BO supporters it will be underemployment or no job, no prospects, and subsistence living for their whole lives.

The most nauseating and greedy of all the public service employees are the members of academia. The private sector is so unaware of the comfortable working conditions and lives these parasites have. Particularly when it´s a husband/wife team. Just imagine what their combined salaries and/or pensions must be.

Any Obamacare costs incurred by academia will just be passed on to the students in higher tuition or paid by the state taxpayers for state schools. The tenured professors could care less about increased tuition.

For more than 160 years, Henry David Thoreau´s essay on Civil Disobedience has inspired Americans to "make known what kind of government would command his respect" so that we could live under that government in good conscience. Ultimately, in a free society, that´s all we have that is truly our own; our conscience. Following its dictates, says Thoreau, is the only rational way to live your life and be true to oneself. It had been years since I read Civil Disobedience and I was surpised by how Cliven Bundy´s words echoed many of the theses in the essay. Legal experts overwhelmingly agree

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports.
