Four people were shot and killed Friday night and Saturday morning, and a fifth person who may have been dead for days or weeks was found with gunshot wounds. In addition to the shootings, a man was stabbed to death on the Southwest Side about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. At least 11 others were wounded by gunfire in shootings from the Uptown neighborhood south to the Chatham neighborhood, police said. The sixth homicide of the night - a 29-year-old man found dead inside his car with a gunshot wound to the head - drew a crowd

I sometimes think Chicago, used to love this great city, is becoming Detroit....

More than 500 murdered in the city of Chicago this year alone. At this rate, the city may be able to boast more American lives lost there this year than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. ~680 so far. The mayor must be so proud. I suppose it´s one way to keep the prison population down... Let the thugs do their own capital punishment?

They need a good mayor, one that will respect his people, a mayor that will do the right thing for his people. They need a Coleman Young, then Chicago can truly become just like Detroit. Seriously guys, you need to become better shots, you are already over 100 dead, behind MoTown and you only have a month to go.

In the past, the various top cops have blamed nights like this on the weather. Given that it was unseasonably warm last night, I´m guessing Rahm and his puppet will do the same.

Six dead equals 18 fewer people using the voting machines in November. But rest assured that their absence will be made up by absentee ballots for Democrats. "We´re honoring them by mailing in these ballots each and every election. They would have wanted it this way." The Chicago Way is the only way.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already

One day after making an audio appearance on RT to ask Vladimir Putin about Russian surveillance operations, National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden authored a Guardian column to clarify his intentions behind the question and push back on critics who suggest he was attempting to help whitewash the Russian president’s abuses. “Does Russia intercept, analyse or store millions of individuals’ communications?” Snowden asked Putin on Thursday, garnering a denial from Putin that included the statement: “We don’t have mass system of such interception. And according to our law it cannot exist.” Critics alleged that Snowden appeared in a scripted manner,

Police say a high school vice principal who had been rescued from a sinking South Korean ferry has been found hanging from a tree. The news of the death came Friday as rescuers scrambled to find hundreds of people still missing from the ferry and feared dead. The passengers included 325 second-year students from Danwon High School heading to a southern island on a four-day trip. The school vice principal found hanging Friday was identified as Kang Min-kyu, the lead guide for the school trip. No suicide note was found near the site, but Yonhap news agency reported that Kang

When a video of high school student Jeff Bliss calling out his teacher went viral, a lot of people started talking about the state of our education system and ways to improve it. In 2010, just over eleven thousand homicides in this country were due to the use of firearms. The thirty-thousand figure is composed of all deaths due to firearms, regardless of the situation, and the word ‘violent’ is

It´s not just carriage horse drivers saying neigh to plans for vintage cars tooling around Central Park. The Central Park Conservancy, the nonprofit organization that manages the city’s most famous greenspace, is coming out against a proposal backed by Mayor de Blasio to replace the horse-drawn carriages with replica old-time cars. Doug Blonsky, the conservancy’s president & CEO, told the Daily News that introducing the electric vehicles to the park would be a bad idea. “Forty million people visit Central Park each year, including runners, bicyclists, kids and dog owners,” Blonsky said Wednesday. “Adding vehicles to the mix will make the

Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, a 19-year-old in a hoodie and baggy jeans was captured on a grainy black-and-white surveillance video urinating into a reservoir that slakes the thirst of Portland, Ore.’s 600,000 or so residents. (Cue the disgusted “Ewwwwwwwws!” right here.) But really, Portland Water Bureau officials, do you have to flush 38 million gallons of potable water for the sake of a cup or two of human urine? That’s how much the bladder comfortably holds, although the bladder in question obviously wasn’t comfortable. We get the fact that Beervana prides itself on its water supply. The water bureau

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to
