So what lessons should Republicans learn from the 2016 election? I don’t think anyone other than me has thought to ask this question, as Republicans tend not to be very analytical. But I think the answer is pretty obvious when you look at the failure of their presidential candidate this year and the one in 2008: Republicans need to stop nominating right-wing extremists like John McCain and Mitt Romney. Obviously, the two most recent Republican presidential candidates were far too extreme to the right to be elected by the American public.
Comments: Republicans who still don´t know what hit them should enjoy this piece.
This whole article is nothing but sarcasm, for those who are becoming upset. There is an amusing paragraph about the Party leaders´ search for "Super Squish" to lead the party next time. (Unfortunately, Fleming may be right on the money here.)
I am sorry to report troops, but the levees are busted and have been for some time. Liberals and progressives are now embedded in every drop of media (yes even FOX). My little 5 year old neice is in live with MIchelle Obama. I asked how she knew of her and she said from her little kiddie shows. Their propoganda is everywhere and they have no shame. Woodward and Bernstein have been and alwasy will be conerned with R´s not D´s.
We learned that the margin between winning and losing was 320,000 votes total in 4 swing states of Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and Virginia--well within the margin of fraud. We learned we need voter ID laws to prevent illegal immigrants, felon, ineligible, and dead people from voting, and we need to enforce them with jail time for offenders. We learned that FEC laws concerning illegal campaign contributions, including those made from offshore, are not enforceable, and that seizure laws need to be put into place. Had such seizure laws been enforced in 2008 and 2012, Obama would never have been elected. We learned that the media is 100% corrupt, biased, and irresponsible We learned that you can´t promise tax reductions, deficit reduction, downsizing of government to 47% of the population who pay no federal taxes and receive medicare, medicaid, social security, food stamps, unemployment, and other government handouts. We learned that perhaps violence IS the answer--just as it was in 1776.
Lovely satire. However one sentence perfectly describes John McCain´s campaign: "So what is he like? First off, the Super Squish will not spend a lot of time criticizing Democrats, as he should be far too busy disparaging his own party."
I didn´t hear Mitt speaking disparagingly of the conservatives, but he was very uncomfortable with the language we use. So much so, that at one point he actually called himself "severely conservative"..a definite clue he was having trouble. Much the same with W Bush´s "compassionate conservative" which also clanged really loud.
Mr. Fleming has a good point. How about nominating a solid conservative with conservative credentials? Oh, right. That would mean defeating the Establishments first. Are we up to it? They have failed the last two elections......it shouldn´t be that difficult.
Note: Watch for Mitch McConnell to declare himself a member of the Kentucky Tea Party in 2014 when he is up for election.
There were several aspects to the election: "extreme right" stay home from voting, Dems vote Dem no matter how awful their candidate, "entitled" want freebies and votes were bought or coerced by the Left... with the bottom line that Americans did not pay attention to which leader they should hire to save the nation. The "fiscal cliff" is another fabrication of the Left to continue to steal our future. When they win.. and then Islam takes over.. they will get their just desserts. The rest of us, who worked and contributed toward hiring the better man, do not deserve what will occur!!
Yes, #8, but what the Dems know Republicans are explaining what they´d do instead of just saying they want to help, they are fighting for X.
Democrats have been using the tax code against Republicans for years. People want to be rich, or hope they could be some day, but also most working-stiffs don´t really like their boss, and the fancy neighborhood they live in. Yes, envy, but it´s used against GOP. Same with abortion - used against the GOP.
It would be legal in CA, IL, NY, and many other populated states. Even majority of Catholics vote Democrat despite this issue.
Clinton had it right "it should be rare". The Catholic Bishops only said "vote your conscience".
We need to get off social issues and focus on economic issues. The social issues will evolve with economic elevation.
The Democrats have nothing but class warfare, race baiting, and the women´s vote. But that wins elections. Romney´s fatal mistake was to avoid specifics. No specifics in the face of being called a racist and heartless rich symp is a losing strategy. The Republican Party has to take some blame for the loss, too. When the Dems charge that the Republicans are racist, the GOP must strike back hard, each and every time. And they must explain how the Democrats are more racist than the GOP, which they most certainly are. And when I say specifics, the Republicans have to craft a health care platform, and that doesn´t mean Obamacare, but it does mean that the GOP has to communicate to the voters what they intend to do about the broken health care system in America. And it has to be better than the working poor can go to the emergency room.
1. Do not let the other party define you. 2. Do not let the other party choose your candidate. 3. Have a clear and consistent message: capitalism works (see Milton Friedman for details). 4. Enough with the self-flagellation already. Tell stories of socialist states which have collapsed, and point out that we are headed to collapse. 5. Enough with entitlements. ENOUGH! No one is born entitled to anything, except life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Any government with sufficient resources to entitle us to anything must take away everything first. 6. The struggle to control voting will be long and difficult. Can we start with purple thumbs? Purple thumbs is such an easy idea that it cannot possibly be adopted. 7. Dead people and non-existent people cannot vote. 8. Either enforce the laws about contributions from foreigners or CHANGE THE LAW. The enactment of laws which are not enforced is what got us into the immigration mess. 9. Congressional cowards cheapen the law-making process when they write laws which are not really written (Dodd-Frank is only one third enacted into regulations). Can´t we require Congress to actually enact statutes?
Of course the piece is satire, and not even very good satire at that. Our Sagman could do it much better and sharper.
The lesson to be learned from the election are not as simple as vote fraud. Yes, there was fraud, but no, that´s not the whole answer. Until we find a better way to tell our message in ways that don´t scare people to death, we will not win again. Paul Ryan did an excellent job deflecting the Dems´ usual Mediscare tactic. Seniors voted for Romney/Ryan in great margins. Now, we must find a way to do the same thing with fiscal responsibility, reforming healthcare and bringing down the debt without terrifying women that we want to control their personal lives. The same thing with immigration reform, our message must be clearer that we want the laws obeyed, the borders secured but that we understand and appreciate our Hispanic citizens. We have the right goals, the way to bring the nation back to fiscal and physical health, but there´s a problem with the image and the words.
When Frank wrote; "I don’t think anyone other than me has thought to ask this question," I knew I was in for a treat.
Liberals believe everyone thinks like they do, but they don´t, some actually do think, they just aren´t liberals.
There´s been many people attributed to the statement that when the people learn they can tap into the public treasury, democracy will fail. That is exactly what has happened. Democrats have been tapping into the public treasury and running up the national debt lining their pockets and buying votes through entitlements, grants, subsidies and bailouts. It´s wrong and treasonous, but who is going to stop it? It will stop when this nation goes bankrupt and there is no money to steal.
Democrats won because they are liars and thieves and the media is their partner in crime. The people, who should be policing them, are on the take so they keep quiet (stay willfully stupid).
And they have the gall to blame the GOP for their failures? Yes, they do have the gall to make that claim. They are liars.
What we need to learn is to get out and vote even for a candidate we are not enthusiastic about. I was not enthusiastic about McCain. I voted for him I was extremely enthusiastic about Romney. I voted for him. Either way, I´m aboard and I´m not trashing my own candidate and then complaining the country is going to hades nor that it was all the candidate´s fault.
Frank J. Fleming is a satirist, folks. He had a whole series (and I think he published a book on the theme) of why Obama is the greatest man in the whole wide world. It was all satire. He´s brilliant and cutting and on the level of Iowahawk.
The bozo in the WH was elected by voters bought and paid for by your tax dollars and unless the clown tries to use that National Security Force he has been developing in FEMA and Homeland Security to take over too quickly there will never be another republican president.
Thanks for the heads up #27. Went back and read again. Unfortunately its too close to liberal propaganda to be as humorous as intended. Go up a few articles and read Rubio´s comments. I´m off to find the video on the internet.
After 12 years of war, you would think the war planners and defense contractors have the situation in Afghanistan well in hand. And they do, if the goal is wasteful spending on such a colossal scale that it makes Healthcare.gov look like Amazon.com. (Snip) And while the Democrats continue running interference for their standard-bearer, Republicans in Congress steadfastly refuse to show spine in overseeing the president for fear that they accidentally end the war. No one wants that — things are going so well!
A team of cardiovascular scientists has announced it will be able to 3D print a whole heart from the recipients´ own cells within a decade. "America put a man on the Moon in less than a decade. I said a full decade to provide some wiggle room," Stuart K Williams told Wired.co.uk. (Snip) Williams says he and his team of more than 20 have already bioengineered a coronary artery and printed the smallest blood vessels in the heart used in microcirculation.
The black-nationalist Department of Homeland Security employee who was placed on leave almost four months ago for running a website that espouses the mass murder of whites has still not been fired, an agency spokesperson told National Journal. The Southern Poverty Law Center first exposed Ayo Kimathi in August, prompting a small media firestorm that led DHS to place the procurement officer on administrative leave with pay pending review. DHS deputy press secretary Gillian Christensen confirmed that his status has not changed and that he is still on leave pending review.
Los Angeles-It looked like a typical Sunday morning at any mega-church. Several hundred people, including families with small children, packed in for more than an hour of rousing music, an inspirational talk and some quiet reflection. The only thing missing was God. Nearly three dozen gatherings dubbed "atheist mega-churches" by supporters and detractors have sprung up around the U.S. and Australia - with more to come - after finding success in Great Britain earlier this year.
I think a lot of people will look back at this point in American political history and wonder how things got so damn screwed up. It wasn’t always a given that there would be mindless gridlock on Capitol Hill, unchecked extremism and a general lack of leadership. Sure, one could point to the corrupting influence of lobbyists and interest groups on Congress. Or to gerrymandering. Or to Citizens United, which allows money to literally control politics and has made political parties less relevant, and allowed the proliferation of the ultra conservative Tea Party. There are plenty of others.
The wide grin is the same, as are the big blue eyes that once captivated America. These intimate pictures give a fascinating glimpse of reclusive film star Doris Day, now 91, and her life after Hollywood, as unveiled by the man who cared for her for nearly 40 years. For the first time, Sydney Wood has opened up his treasured album of photographs from his time working for Doris – and revealed his fears for the woman once known as America’s Sweetheart.
The army has been sent into toilet paper factories, fights for basic foodstuffs have resulted in several deaths and new, multi-million dollar oil tankers are sitting idle in dock. And, despite sitting on the world’s largest oil reserves, Venezuela’s socialist government can’t quite manage to keep the lights on. Now many in Venezuela are wondering how much longer President Nicolas Maduro, the anointed successor of the country’s firebrand Leftist leader Hugo Chavez, can keep hold of the reins of its crumbling socialist revolution.
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
