Rain happens, that´s a good thing.

That´s why we all have generators and extra food, gas, and water here. We just need PG&E to get the power back up. CA gov´t is totally useless, no, they would be a hindrance. This was a rainy but not so windy storm so it was just the early winter trees down and small mudslides. After a few storms it gets to where not much more comes down.

No power outages here! The storm last night was insane though. My room practically flooded out when the wind started blowing the pouring rain in my window. Most of the cats (including half the feral family I take care of) came in and stayed in my room half the night. Of course, the crazy critters were fascinated by the weather and still kept going out to play in the rain too. I think they just wanted to share their wet coats with me! Anyway, we all survived...even the rest of the feral family that stays outside.

Rain is good, although December rain often forebodes a dry January and February here.

We got 2.6" of rain in San Bruno Friday, and the ground can´t absorb it all... it must suck in the counties north of SF where they got triple that. Those rivers won´t be fun this weekend.

We could take all these storms better if we had a couple of days between ´em, not just a few hours.

If there is anything left over by the time the storms moves east, could sure use some precip in Colorado.

Here in MarvelousMarin we got about 3", but it is still coming down. I´ve seen more wind and rain than this storm brought. I htink this is 24/7 new hype.

As previously noted, this is first storm of the season, and more will likely come in the next three or four month. The the City of Santa Rosa will flush and the Russian River will be flooding the numerous river communities that keep rebuilding in areas that food every few years. Go ahead a rebuild, but not on our tax money dudes, get your own insurance.

It´s the Pineapple express. I´m sorry for the death of a PG&E worker, but anything else bad that happens in Sacramento is usually higher taxes by crooked Democrat politicians. I think FEMA can skip this one.

9, we lived in Petaluma for years - many of them very very wet and rainy. Every time the Russian River flooded there were news crews showing the sad plight of the ´´river rats´´ - flooding again. AND they would all loudly vow to rebuild in exactly the same place. AND, they would always get some kind of gov´t bailout to do exactly that.

I have a clear memory of random poles on River Road with high water markers on them - almost a point of pride. ´´See what we lived thru - we did it then, we can do it again´´. And again. And again. Now that CA is clean out of money, will Sac be able to fund another bailout? I bet they will...

It must be a river/water obsession. Here in the Cincinnati area, the OH river floods and people also point to the many floods they survived and rebuilt with such pride. I say, get to higher ground but they stay... in the mold and mildew and mess. And, we pay for it.They would never do this if someone did not bail them out, but who knows?

Eight inches of rain and counting. This reminds me of the pineapple express of ´82. It rained for days and finished with very heavy downpours. Mud slid everywhere. "Storm of ´82" is the last famous storm we had here. Look up "Love Creek slide". I don´t see any predictions for a foot of rain to fall in eight hours like it did then but I´m off to get more supplies today anyway.

Yeah, it´s a real mess up here although Bay Area folks seem to be bearing a bigger brunt than we in the foothills. We´re not worried about flooding, but there are real concerns for the valley. The wind last night had our tall oaks and pines nearly bent in half. Fierce!

We´ve lost power only once and for a relatively short period (fingers crossed and knocking on wood). I try to avoid looking outside, such is the mess we´ll have to clean up after it´s over.

Holiday street fairs have been postponed and cancelled all over the place. Hoping to get to an indoor event down the hill. We´ll see.

These are big storms, no doubt about it, but nothing like you east coasters had to endure.

We got nearly 5 inches here in Lake County. For California that´s quite a bit at once. Nothing like the east coast tho. Wind was crazy night before last, but no trees or big limbs down, just leaves, leaves and more leaves. It´s bringing the lake up, I can see the far side of my dock from the kitchen window now. Yep, 2 generators, extra gas and food...we try to be ready for anything...however, we were not ready for obama to be re-elected...still sick about that. Glad California Ldotters seem fine. We gotta stick together in this doomed state.

Anyone know about the area east of SFO and Fresno?

Here in Paradise California, up on the ridge near Chico, we´ve had wind, rain, power outages, trees down, and flooding, with total rainfall so far at 4.5 inches of rain and another blast due to hit us tonight and tomorrow morning. Just up the hill at Stirling City they´ve endured 8.4 inches of rain! This is all in just the last 24 hours, and we´ve got about 24-36 hours left to go.We´ll get a day off from the rain on Monday, but more storms are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday! Truly, this is the Pineapple Express!

This is Northern California so we´re used to a lot of rain. I live north of Sacramento. Only minor flooding. We have a good system of creeks and rivers for drainage so there is nothing like the widespread damage you saw in the NE.

Here in central Mendocino County we got 9 inches in 48 hours. All the seasonal creeks were running wild, and we had gopher hole gysers in the front yard. Its good to live at the top of the watershed! I´ll post a picture of our creek on the Connection.

The wind was howling with occasional gusts that rattled the windows. There was major tree trimming along our power lines this year and so far we´ve not lost our PG&E. Of course, the generator is ready to go, plenty of food, our own well, and extra wood for the stove. Ready for the storm that´s supposed to come in tonight. Although we will be slipping into town this evening for Vigil Mass since it will probably be nasty tomorrow morning. God bless you all.
