| Fort Lee, N.J. — Motorists will pay more as the next phase of toll increases kick in at Port Authority bridges and tunnels on Sunday. Cash tolls on the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will increase $1 to $13. Tolls for E-ZPass users will go from $9.50 to $10.25 during peak commuting hours and from $7.50 to $8.25 during off-peak hours. The Port Authority last raised tolls in September 2011. The bistate agency said it needed to offset security-related projects following the 9/11 attacks, a drop in revenue

Short-term thinking: The sky´s the limit when you have a captive audience.
Agency revenues down because of the ongoing economic "slump," people scale back nonessential travel after previous round of toll hikes. Solution? Why, hike the tolls again!

The Port Authority is a bi-state agency, shared equally by NY & NJ. The PONYA runs the agency, Christie had nothing to do with the increase. I worked for PONYA starting in 1953. We were sworn in as Peace Officers (Cops). We were armed and at that time we were the only state agency that could carry guns across state lines. In an 8 hour tour you covered both ends of the tunnels. We also collected tolls a that time. A single one way trip cost $0.50, and that made motorists angry. I can´t imagine how angry motorists are now with a $13.00 toll. There were discounted monthly tickets then. In order to pay NY State income tax I had to figure how many hours I worked in each state.

#2, my dad worked for PONYA for many years, starting in 1950. Not only was the toll low, but PA employees got a book of tickets so they could make the crossing for free.

Mobile - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, confirmed today that he intends to resign from Congress later this year and take a job at the University of Alabama. Bonner, 53, has represented Alabama´s 1st Congressional District since taking office in 2003. He was re-elected in November with no Democratic opponent. The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
