| The Senate late Thursday night approved a Republican amendment that would prohibit the transfer of terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) to U.S. prisons. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) introduced amendment 3245, which would prevent the Department of Defense from using funds to move suspected terrorists from Gitmo facilities to prisons within the United States. Ayotte said Thursday that she feared that those presumed terrorists would seek legal rights in U.S. courts. She added that the Gitmo facility is far more secure since it’s protected by the military.

Sen. McCain was on Greta´s show a couple of nights ago and he said a terrorist who had killed 5 Americans (in Afghanistan?) had been released within the last two weeks. Read all about it in your local news. Oh, wait ....

Yeah supposedly this would save taxpayers $110 million a year like the left has found religion on spending all of a sudden. It would cost many times that to retrofit prisons on the mainland to house these creeps.
Despite Obama obsessive outreach to muslims they are still held in low regard by m
ost people,especially ones who have attacked this or that.
If you´re going to close Gitmo to terrorists reopen it to house kinpin drug dealers.That is anyone who has sold more than an ounce of pot/s.
The left claims letting pot offenders loose out of fed prisons would save money but less than 2% of federal inmates are there for pot offenses.

It only forbids the DoD from using funds for the transfer!
Doesn´t say anything about the DoD remanding custody to the DOJ, or Federal Marshals for transfer to the United States...

If I remember correctly, the DOJ has already purchased a prison in IL for these special inmates. Of course Obama will retire to Hawaii in 2016 so he won´t have to have these terrorists in his neighborhood. This is one time I feel sorry for the state of Lincoln.

There is a big legal difference between the suspected terrorists being held at Guantanamo Bay and the convicted terrorists being incarcerated in a number of US Federal Prisons. The suspected terrorists at Guantanamo have not been convicted of crimes, where the terrorists in US Prisons have all been convicted of felony crimes.
That difference means a lot when one goes into a US courtroom and applies for political asylum in the USA claiming that one might be killed if returned to his or her home country. Where a convicted terrorist would probably have little chance of ever being granted political asylum, a foreigner simply suspected of being a terrorist could well end up being released into American society by a judge in accordance with provisions written into the really very liberal immigration laws relating to asylum and withholding of deportation.
In the long-run it would better if they stayed at Guantanamo Bay, with most of them eventually being returned to their home countries, or better yet being detained in a new facility built someplace in Antarctica.

I first saw the headline early Tuesday on Real Clear Politics, a political news site where I generally start my morning. It´s not where I expect to see a story on breast cancer. Then I checked my e-mail messages -- they all seemed to be about Angelina Jolie´s op-ed. Students in my undergraduate class wanted to discuss it in our next session. Just when you think the news surrounding Obamagate cannot get any worse, it does. Some say U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s days on the job are numbered and that it’s just a matter of when he’ll be forced to resign. While I’ll not shed a tear over Holder’s departure, one of the replacement names being floated has me reaching for tissues: Gov. Deval Patrick. Patrick has denied he’s interested — but the job isn’t on offer yet. If it is, President Obama should not select him nor should he be confirmed by the Senate for a plethora of reasons.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
