Third party talk is unserious. There are already alternate parties all over the place. Those who yearn for something other than Dem or Repub surely can match up with one of those. When you are forced to live by the policies that are enacted by corrupt politicians in DC, this is what you get. The realization has set in that neither party wants to fix what they have destroyed.

The third leg of this argument is that the rich didn´t get rich being stupid. If the Feds raise the rates, the wealth will flee the country and the good old middle class will be left footing the bill - just like we always have. And Obama does have a plan. Raise taxes and redistribute the money. That has been the plan from day one.

#4, it´s quite clear the Republican Party is going to continue to accept both debt limit increases, spending increases, and tax increases. So anyone who wants something different is " unserious"? Get serious.

Whatever it is that infects the Republican Party does not seem to be curable. It´s in a death spiral and those of us who are indeed serious want a real party with a real commitment to solve the mess that´s been forced upon us.

I am waiting for someone perhaps a fellow L-dotter who possesses a legal mindset to draft a simple Constitutional Amendment. Keypoints are as follows:

1) As it was not the intentions of the founders that Congress should become a career, all congressional defined benefit pension plans are hereby revoked.

2) As it was not the intention that Members of Congress should be exempt from the laws that they enact, any act of congress will be enforcible on all citizens including Members of Congress and all Federal
Employees. (If it is a crime to lie to a Federal Agent, it should also be illegal for a Federal Agent to lie to you)

3) Any law previously passed wherein Congress exempted themselves from enforcement or obligations is hereby declared Null and Void. All such laws shall be expunged fro the United States Code.

Just watched a Fox News report that 2/3´s of England millionaires left the country after they raised the taxes on them. The move cost the country billions in tax receipts. And it is happening in CA, IL, NJ and one other.

WHo needs two parties when the glorious leader is at the helm? We already have two factions, the blacks and the whites.

Quicker and easier to work from inside your party of choice. Begin at your local level and work toward the top. It can be done. It must be done.

During the GOP primary, I was asked to point out a instance when Mitt Romney lied. I quoted a Romney campaign ad In which Mitt said that he balanced the Massachusetts budget "without raising taxes" and that later on he "cut taxes." As a factual matter, only one of these could be true. Governor Romney did not raise tax rates, but he did increase taxes by eliminating "loopholes" (i.e. making someone pay more taxes). Later, Mitt did not lower tax rates, but he did offer offer more exemptions (i.e. opening more loopholes). So one of Mitt´s statements had to be false. Jonah agrees: "If I make the same amount of money as I did last year but pay more in taxes, then my taxes have gone up. If I pay less, my taxes have gone down. Whether the numbers moved this way or that because of closed loopholes or rejiggered tax rates, the result for me is the same."

I think the reference from a yesterday thread was to demonstrate an instance of Romney "lying and smearing" another candidate. There are attempts to tie Governor Romney to such stuff, but they mostly rely on assumption.

It seems like many people don´t think that anything wrong could happen to the country, it will always be anything you want it to be. They are sadly delusional, we will not always be a free people, we will not be fiscally sound and dreams will always be dreams because due to the state the country is in you cannot fulfill your dreams no matter how many flowery speeches are given by politicians. What is happening to the country is sad and not what the founding fathers envisioned.

The republicans don´t have that much power, the people spoke, they elected Obama and added two more dems to the senate. All politicians lie. Or their opponents will be able to convince you of that regarding some matter or another. Often the allegation is less fact than interpretation.

I advise looking at the arc of a candidates life rather than a specific instance or allegation. (Of course sometimes a single instance will reveal so much that it must disqualify the candidate.)

Perspective. Realize that the last few years have been wonderful for Washington D.C. There is more spending, more power, more employees, and raises and benefits.

It is not an accident that the DC metropolitan area is the richest in America. And the gap continues to grow.
