KAILUA, OAHU - Residents living near the beachfront homes where President Barack Obama and First Family vacation with their friends every year since 2008 were alerted on Monday to some specifics of the Obamas´ holiday vacation plans. The report delivered to residents living along the ocean and canal that surrounds the multi-million dollar homes at Kailuana Place where the President stays, informed them of restrictions that will be implemented for 20 days beginning December 17 and running through January 6.
Comments: Nice 20 day, $4 million vacation, before coming home for the inauguration and festivities.
Read the comments after the article. Serious outrage and anger. And trying to say that this vacation cost is ´in line´ with previous presidents is total meadow muffins. The 2 Bush presidents either went to Camp David or their own homes. They did not spend nearly $4mill on a vacation. Of all the stuff they have pulled this is the most insensitive and tone deaf. And round 2 hasn´t even started yet.
fta: Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or as high as $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back. ~~
And that is assuming Michelle doesn´t kick off early and take a different plane there or that the dog won´t need his own plane. Hell, they may all need separate planes. Who knows with the Obama´s. It´s not there money anyway and we the serfs can just "eat cake."
I´m glad this was posted, OP--thank you. But please forgive me for not reading about the unmitigated pillocks. I´m still thinking of the Mooch and the speech she made yesterday.
I do hope that your holiday season is truly special and you really use this time to reflect and come together and so many of us in this country will use your lives as inspiration as we sit around our trees and our tables and we think about all that we have and we think about what all of you are sacrificing to make sure that we live in freedom and harmony. We are truly grateful to all of you and we thank you.
It´s all sickeningly awful but that emphasized part has been sticking in my craw since it was posted at
Yes, there´ll be a good number of people who are thankful and appreciative of our military and their families--but they don´t need Moochelle Antoinette´s directive to think about them at Christmas. Living near Charleston AFB and Navy facilities, I think of their sacrifices every time I see a uniform or see a brave man with scars from shrapnel in his back at the therapy pool. Most of us out here will have far different thoughts in our heads as we "sit around our trees and our tables," slowly chewing our meager meals this Christmas and contemplating the chasms to negotiate before we fall off that financial cliff and think about losing a hell of a lot of what we have. (It´s Christmas, Michelle.
I can understand #12´s not wanting to read about The Wons, but this is a detailed breakdown of most of the bill we´ll get for this 20 day Hawaiian idyll. Not including Mooch´s separate aircraft (she always ends up flying out early, etc., etc., etc.) and other "classified" items.
As I recall Bo flies in his own plane, too, and it used to be with BHOL Reggie Love.
KINGSTON, Jamaica - Police in Jamaica say authorities have seized 3,300 missile warheads and a machine to make missiles and bullets. Deputy Police Superintendent Steve Brown said Friday that custom officials discovered the weapons late Thursday aboard a ship at Kingston Wharf. He declined to say where the shipment originated from or its destination. No one has been arrested. Brown told reporters that police are seeking helping from international agencies after their findings. He said it was the first time authorities had made such a discovery. [Entire copy]
McLEAN, Va. — A nuclear deal between the U.S., Iran and other world powers has been described as a trust-building step after decades of animosity that hopefully will lead to a more comprehensive deal down the road. But for many of the 66 Americans who were held hostage for 444 days at the start of the Iranian revolution, trusting the regime in Tehran feels like a mistake.[snip]Retired Air Force Col. Thomas E. Schaefer, 83, called the deal “foolishness.” “My personal view is, I never found an Iranian leader I can trust,” he said. “I don’t think today it’s any different
A first-term Florida Republican congressman has been charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, according to charges filed in Washington, D.C., superior court on Tuesday. Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fla., faces arraignment on Wednesday in Washington. He was arrested on Oct. 29 for alleged possession of cocaine, which was first reported by Politico. The charge carries a statutory maximum sentence of 180 days of imprisonment and/or a fine of $1,000, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Radel released the following statement on Tuesday: "I´m profoundly sorry to let down my family, particularly my wife and son, and the people of Southwest Florida.
A sweeping child pornography investigation has led to the rescue of 386 children around the world and the arrest of 348 people, Canadian police said Thursday. Toronto police describe the Project Spade operation as one of the largest child porn busts they´ve ever seen. "It is alleged that officers seized hundreds of thousands of videos detailing horrific sexual acts against very young children, some of the worst that they have ever viewed," Inspector Joanna Beaven-Desjardins said. Police said 108 people were arrested in Canada and 76 in the U.S. Others were arrested in other countries. Australian Federal Police commander Glen McEwen
RALEIGH-DURHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, N.C. --The pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight headed to RDU went on the loudspeaker and told passengers their plane was going down, according to a woman on board the flight. "He said, we´re going down. And everyone is looking around like, is this a joke? Is he serious? And then you felt the nosedive," passenger Shelley Wills said. Wills told ABC11 the Tuesday night flight from Tampa took a nosedive thousands of feet in the air while they were about 100 miles away from RDU. Wills is a nurse and tried helping the first-time flier seated next to her who
The Family Research Council (FRC) released a video in time for Veterans Day that warns Americans about the persecution of U.S. troops who express their Christian faith. The four-minute-and-44 second video, “A Clear and Present Danger,” features active duty members of the U.S. military sharing their concerns about the “tremendous culture of intimidation and fear in the ranks of the American military right now.” The identities of the men the faces and voices of the man are obscured to cloak their identities. “Soldiers give up a lot of privileges or rights to be soldiers and defend the freedom of others,”
Today has, rightfully, been set aside to honor the men and women who have stood in the breech between us and those who would destroy us, devoting precious years in the very prime of their young lives to protect the country, the people and the way of life they love. They all made tremendous sacrifices, up to and including the ultimate one of giving their lives for their country. They suffered the loss of limbs, sight and even their sanity, or at the very least, the grinding loneliness of separation from family, loved ones and everything that was dear and
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
