Here’s a perplexing pair of statistics: Compared with native-born Americans, immigrants are more likely to start a business — and they’re also more likely to depend on welfare. These dissonant data are even more irksome considering the state of the U.S. economy. Government social-aid programs consume an ever-growing portion of the federal budget, surpassing a trillion dollars even before Medicare and Social Security are factored in. And entrepreneurial activity is slowing. Census Bureau statistics show that start-ups accounted for 12 percent of American businesses in 1980 but less than 8 percent today.
Here is one place to start entitlement reform. Why are non-citizens given welfare, foodstamps and free healthcare? My wife handles maternity patients who come here from other countries to have an anchor baby and receive free medical benefits and welfare. Why? And why do we allow recent immigrants to bring their extended families here, who then join the SSI, welfare, and medicaid rolls? I´m not against legal immigration. but why do admit people who will be dependent on our largesse. At a time when we´re concerned about the cost of services for our own people, why do we seek people from other countries who cannot pay their own way? This is madness.
2011 66.1 million Welfare Recipients 21.2 million Government Workers 109.3 Private Sector employees
The source for the private and government employed persons is the US Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, September 2011. The number of welfare recipients is calculated with national Medicaid and Food Stamp numbers (using Pennsylvania´s formula to remove duplicate counts).
...sadly illegal aliens and legal immigrants do not come to the USA to become Americans, they come for American welfare paid for by American taxpayers...and to vote for Democrats!!!!
#1, all part of the libtard bureaucracy drive to expand it´s power and their plan to overwhelm and bankrupt the ´system´. Thus, they believe, ushering in their opportunity to create a communist/socialist/fascist/libtard utopia. They really believe they will be the elite and get to tell everybody what to do even more than they already do.
Our family had a lively discussion on this very topic over T-giving dinner (of all times and places). We decided, it may actually be the more benificial strategy to give up our home, disclaim our American citizenship, change our names to "something Hispanic sounding" and apply for social support. We have an illegal family just down the street- they are all on welfare, declaring support for children in Mexico! He braggs to me that there are no kids in the Old Country, but between them, he, his son with "kids" and adult daughter and her kids, they pull in almost 7 grand a month! Plus full medical and food card! He drive a very nice F-250, the son has an older model PU that pulls a "Landscaping" trailer, and they have three men living in the house as boarders who work for the son´s small business. Xavier also is very proud that most of their income is non-taxable, and the son does all in cash- no taxes there, either. Wife and I had to pay six grand in taxes last year as legal American citizens. We now envy our "Hispanic" neighbors.
Over the years the liberal Democrats who consider all poor immigrants to be prospective future liberal Democrat voters set up the immigration system that is now in place, including stacking up all the legal loopholes allowing immigrants, illegal and legal, to participate in the US social welfare network and thus essentially to be subsidized by American taxpayers. A lot of Republicans, especially the crowd who love very cheap immigrant labor, went along with the liberal Democrats simply to get along and to keep labor costs for their business oriented constituents as low as possible. The liberal Democrats are not about to allow the current immigration system to be changed in anyway that will lower the large number of new immigrant voters they are receiving each year. The Republicans are now going to have to suffer the long-term political consequences of being complicit in allowing such an out of control immigration system to manifest itself.
When immigrants start new businesses in the USA, for the most part they hire fellow immigrants, both illegal and legal who are here from their home countries. Those businesses actually constitute a big part of the underground economy in the USA and easily undercut US owned small businesses by not paying customary American wages and benefits to their workers, and many times not even paying the required employment and other taxes for their employees.
Energy: Mexico has passed its biggest energy reform since 1938, opening its state oil industry to foreign investment. This now makes North America the world´s oil and gas powerhouse. Credit the fracking revolution. After a bruising battle in Mexico´s congress, dramatized by howls of "treason" and leftists stripping to their skivvies in an unedifying bid to claim the country is being "stripped" of its resources, Mexico´s lower house voted 353-134 to end 75 years of government control of its vast oil reserves. The decision followed a similar vote from the upper chamber on Tuesday night. The change opens Mexico´s state-owned oil company, Pemex,
The Hawaiian health official who verified the authenticity of President Obama’s birth certificate died in a small plane crash. In February, the Bush family’s personal emails were hacked by Guccifer, a hacker who uncovered photographs of former President George H. W. Bush in a hospital bed and George W. Bush’s oil paintings in the process. It seems Guccifer has struck again, this time targeting former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Library. The hacker has reportedly uncovered doodles of Clinton drawing on what were, at the time, classified documents. Among the doodles is apparently a picture of a penis. The document uncovered is a briefing of the strategic measures the United States could take prior Clinton’s decision to intervene in
A witness in the case of the murder of Venezuelan Ambassador Olga Fonseca in Kenya 2012 told a court in Nairobi on Wednesday that the diplomatic mission would use the diplomatic bag for drug-trafficking purposes. New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
Columnist Charles Krauthammer attacked new Obamacare rules unveiled by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a late Thursday conference call, saying the Obama administration is “approach[ing] banana republic lawlessness” by issuing the decrees. Krauthammer spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier on a panel with Juan Williams and Judge Andrew Napolitano, as the three reacted to Sebelius’ new directives for insurance companies. “This is exactly a reaction to a deep understanding among Democrats that [Obamacare] is a train wreck,” he said. “And it’s a panic reaction. As the judge said, this is utterly lawless. This now approaches banana republic lawlessness.
WASHINGTON – It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of the budget deal.“Embrace the suck,” House minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi told fellow Democrats Thursday morning, a source told Politico.“We need to get this off the table so we can go forward,” she added. It’s a way of telling her colleagues the budget deal negotiated with Republicans is the best they can get. Democrats are fuming that the bipartisan budget deal doesn’t extend unemployment benefits for more than a million Americans. One of Pelosi’s top lieutenants, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said Thursday it
