| Workers at Awrey Bakeries in Livonia are bracing for bad news. The company, more than a century-old, said today that it had no comment on news reports that its future is in jeopardy and that it is about to inform employees that they could be out of jobs in 60 days. But one longtime employee confirmed that union representatives told him that unless Awrey’s finds an investor or buyer, he and about 150 other employees would be out of work, and to expect official company notifications in the mail. “They said they don’t know if we are going to be open

Obama told us before the election that things were getting better.
By the way, is there a website that keeps track of all the layoffs since the majority of my fellow citizens voted to have Obama save our economy?

The union should buy the bakery and run it because they are so much smarter than everyone else.

Actually, I am glad to see that union members are now reaping the results of their votes for Obama. Apparently they are/were too stupid to see the writing on the wall and bought in to all the lies coming from Obama and his henchmen

Things are right on track. The Obama/Union policies close up the little guys ( in many cases non union jobs) and the big companies (union workers) take up he slack in the market. What´s the problem?

this is (per the article) a union shop. And the employee interviewed said ´´they´´ ran the company into the ground. ´´They´´ obviously referring to management. It seems that Awrey´s was bought by an investment group. Thank GOD it wasn´t Bain Capital - we´d never hear the end of it...

There is not enough information in the article for anyone to comment knowledgeably. We don´t know if it was caused by economic conditions, union demands, outside ownership, Obamacare on the Horizon, or other conditions, or a combination of them. All we know is that a lot of seemingly good workers will be out of jobs, and that is a sad situation. Worse, it is a growing concern because of the new Health Care law and Government regulations ,including taxes. The owners are most likely the so-called one percent and they are NOT going to stand still and take losses if no turnaround is in sight.

Slightly off topic, but I shop at a place where they are selling little snack cakes that are imported from Italy. I tried them & I think they are better than American Hostess cakes - the flavors are unusual, they are much prettier and they are competitively priced.

Mobile - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, confirmed today that he intends to resign from Congress later this year and take a job at the University of Alabama. Bonner, 53, has represented Alabama´s 1st Congressional District since taking office in 2003. He was re-elected in November with no Democratic opponent. Bonner´s office had no immediate comment but said the congressman planned a "major announcement" at a 4 p.m. news conference today in Mobile. A hotly contested gun-control law that was passed in 2007 is finally ready to be implemented, Attorney General Kamala Harris said Friday: a requirement that every new semiautomatic handgun contain "micro-stamping" technology that would allow police to trace a weapon from cartridges found at a crime scene. The law, signed by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, made California the first state to require micro-stamping, which engraves the gun´s serial number on each cartridge. A second ´house of horrors´ abortion clinic is being investigated in Texas, just days after Dr Kermit Gosnell was found guilty of murdering newborns at his Philadelphia termination center. Houston doctor Douglas Karpen is accused by four former employees of delivering live fetuses during third-trimester abortions and killing them by either snipping their spinal cord, stabbing a surgical instrument into their heads or ´twisting their heads off their necks with his own bare hands´. Other times the fetus was so big he would have to pull it out of the womb in pieces, Karpen´s ex-assistant, Deborah Edge, said

President Francois Hollande will decide by the end of July whether France should impose new taxes on technology giants like Apple and Google to finance cultural projects, a move that could feed into an anti-business image days after a spat with Yahoo!. The Socialist government asked former Canal Plus CEO Pierre Lescure to find new ways of funding culture during an economic downturn, in line with France´s "cultural exception" argument that such projects must be shielded from market forces. While far from becoming laws, the proposals could worsen tension between France and technology giants after Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg

Montgomery, Alabama – Acting state Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Worley lowered her head and slowly shook it side to side when summing up the financial condition of her once powerful party. "We´re broke, broke, broke," Worley told the party´s Executive Board in a special called meeting Frida. How broke is broke? Worley didn´t sugar coat the answer. "This is my 18th day as chair and thirty minutes after I took over on April 22nd the landlord of the building where our party headquarters are came in and said he wanted us out, that the rent was overdue and was always overdue,"

Trenton — Police officials are examining the response to a 911 call Sunday night that left a city man struggling with an intruder at his building without any officers arriving. Dan Dodson said it was 20 or 30 minutes before two officers eventually arrived in response to his wife’s calls to police telephone numbers. “We’re looking into it to determine if the proper protocols were followed,” Lt. Steve Varn said yesterday evening. Yesterday, Dodson said he was deciding where to buy a baseball bat in case someone else was able to slip into his home. He believes one of the two

The Internal Revenue Service relies on technology more than ever to sniff out tax cheats using robo-audits and data mining—but so far it has caught lot of minnows, and big fish are still eluding detection. Even as millions of people´s accounts are screened online and matched against their digital files elsewhere, the IRS´s data-detection tools come nowhere close to collecting the $400 billion in tax dodges estimated to take place each year. (Snip) Such profiles will likely include shopping records, travel, social interactions and information not available to the public, such as health records and files from

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
