| Over the weekend, Nick Kristof wrote a much-derided column decrying the failure of the electrical grid and the reliance on private home generators to power through the outages (John Steel Gordon’s takedown is a must-read). While I invite you to read Kristof’s entire column, the shorter version is the following: Low tax rates on the rich, plus failure to deal with climate change, equals decaying infrastructure, increasing inequality, and wealthy opt-outs from public services. (Wait, I thought that climate-change concerns meant we should generate less power, not more — there’s nothing greener than a blackout!) Leaving aside the particulars

The leftists are fully unleashed in their desires to tax the rich to death. I really don´t know how we are going to manage to survive the next four years. The takedown by John Steele Gordon is truly delightful.

Exactly, #1. Just not enough of those ´rich´ people. I wish there were then the rest of us could sit back and take the free ride.
No, they will have to get in the pockets of the rest of us. Look for a slew of stealth and other type taxes for us to be hammered with...carbon taxes and a host of other type federal taxes like an increase in the gasoline tax, the telephone tax and any other type of tax they can dream up.
It won´t be enough of course. Not with the way they are spending now so we will see a huge income tax increase on the middle class. That won´t be enough either. Look for them to ´borrow´ a percentage of your IRA or pension plan.
It will be pitched as a ´just this once´
emergency loan and if you believe that I have some land to sell you when the tide goes out.....

The House last week voted to restrict implementation of the 2010 New START arms treaty with Russia until the Obama administration outlines its plans for nuclear cuts. The restriction is contained in the fiscal 2014 defense authorization bill that passed the House on Friday by a vote of 315 to 107. Section 1052 of the bill limits the Pentagon and Energy Department from spending any funds on nuclear forces reduction until two conditions are met. The limits would be lifted only after the Pentagon submits a plan required in law that outlines strategic nuclear cuts under New START.
