Obama’s 2009 stimulus chief
says taxes and rules on
junk food are coming

Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/28/2012 2:51:14 PM

Larry Summers, chair of the White House National Economic Council when the 2009 stimulus was developed, suggested that President Obama will eventually tax and regulate junk food to drive people to eat more healthily — although he dinged First Lady Michelle Obama’s healthy foods initiative. “I think there is no question that the way Americans eat and what Americans weigh is a big contributor to health problems and it’s a big contributor to health costs,” Summers said on Morning Joe today. It’s not the agenda now, but I think at some point

Comments:
Wow. This guy hasn´t even been sworn in for a second term and he´s going full steam ahead. He is behaving no differently than Hugo Chavez. Where are those morons now who said 0bama was a centrist??

You will eat what we tell you to eat- or not eat! You will say what we want you to say- or not say! You will think the way we want you to think!

Or you will suffer the wrath of Øbama!

Welcome to Øbama World!

Larry Summers will get taxed a lot then. He used to show up at state meetings with Cheeto grease on his cuffs.

When we predicted this a few years ago the leftist called it crazy talk.

Incrementalism means never having to say you´re sorry.

Every day the social contract gets re-negotiated just a little.

The controllers work at it relentlessly.

The conservatives just want to be left alone.

Must we raise a freaking army just to be left alone ?

Which ´community´ eats the most junk food.

African American, by far eat the most McDonald´s and KFC.

But they would vote for the destroyer for life.

By definition, every restaurant in America is junk food. Show me a restaurant that markets itself as being "healthy," and I´ll show you a restaurant that is going out of business.

Will the tax include the high-priced restaurants that sell artery-cloggin monster steaks with creamed spinach? Or it will only be McDonalds.

I´m not saying that they can´t be convinced, but I´m wondering how the looting class, the 47 percenters, the takers will buy into the idea that fast food will be a controlled substance.

Of course liberals are never happy unless they can control everything. Real meat will be illegal except for the elite, only fake meat will be permitted for the masses. Any food not unionized will also be illegal. family farms will be driven out of business. No hunting of any kind including fishing. I´m sure all this will happen in my life time.

...of course the EBT cardholder, the poor, those with only two cellphones and a wide-screen HDTV, whatever you want to call them, will be exempted. It is ´the rich´ who will bear the tax. You know, the 53 percent. It won´t affect that fat slob Larry Summers and the others who are worth 200 mil. They´ll still be eating Kobe beef and whatever else they want. Obama-care will reach our foods, our cars, our homes ("New Study Shows Single Family Homeowner Have More Health Problems), and our leisure activities. Welcome to the revolution.

The sickening self-righteous Left once again.

There is NOTHING wrong with cookies, candy, chips, eaten in moderation. The problem with obesity is lack of exercise and a reliance on fast food for meals.

So what is the Left´s solution? Make these treats more expensive for people who are tight on money--and who isn´t--and get another cash grab for Big Brother.

Cigarettes are a lousy comparison. People can get sick just being around someone else smoking, and it makes for a lousy atmosphere to be near.

Tell you what, if it is all about risk and saving costs in medicine, let´s also tax sex, skiing, driving a car, jogging, flying an airplane, skydiving, surfing, hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking and rafting, and all sports.

All of these activities result in medical costs and deaths. If the idea is to be a truly nanny state by taxing personal behavior, well then, let´s be fair about it.

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cuz we´re them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trout line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cuz we´re them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

Not going to happen? Look at the lunch food at schools kids are throwing in the garbage. In 2010 Washington State imposed a ´´candy tax´´ which included soft drinks. It was repealed before the year was out. The Voters objected. Will voters have any say in a national tax or has the say already been said by voting Obama in?

Your friendly neighborhood columnist has once again run afoul of Facebook’s elusive community standards. Now before you call up the preacher and put me on the church prayer list – let me assure the posting was neither unseemly nor ungentlemanly. This time I was censored for writing something about Rancher Cliven Bundy. I realized I had landed in the Facebook gulag when I tried to post our daily Bible verse. However, I was unable to post anything because Facebook had taken great offense to something I had written. “We removed something your page posted,” Facebook told me in a rather unpleasant message.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) says her constituents are "frustrated and embarrassed" by Hawaii´s failed Obamacare exchange, which cost taxpayers $204 million and signed up only 8,000 people. On Wednesday, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) announced it will launch an investigation into Hawaii´s busted Obamacare program. "This is not a partisan issue, this is an economic issue," said state Sen. Sam Slom. Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie previously predicted "hundreds of thousand of people" would sign up for Obamacare in the President´s home state. On Thursday, President Barack Obama tried to rally Democrats to

Nearly half of American voters think the IRS targeted conservative groups at the request of the White House, and most want Congress to keep investigating the matter. The latest Fox News poll also finds 69 percent don’t feel President Obama has followed through on his vow to “find out exactly what happened on this.” By a 49-41 percent margin, voters believe the Obama administration “intentionally had the IRS target conservative political groups.” That includes 26 percent of Democrats, 52 percent of independents and 71 percent of Republicans. Meanwhile, 67 percent of voters want Congress to keep investigating the IRS until

Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) introduced today a bill to update the government´s 20-year-old report on hate speech in the media. The Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014 would examine the role of the Internet and other telecommunications in encouraging hate crimes based on gender, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, and would provide recommendations to address such crimes. Even though the number of illegal immigrants who have been deported through the courts has dropped by 43% since President Barack Obama took office, the Obama administration may enact administrative changes to allow bond hearings for detained illegal immigrants. According to the Los Angeles Times, this could result in "several thousand" illegal immigrants being released from jails and "could slow the pace of deportations" even more. The Times notes that the White House is scrambling to "ease the concerns of Latino groups and other traditional allies that have turned on President Obama in recent weeks" by trying to brand him

It’s pitiful that we’ve reached this point, but Obama’s account of this chat really is more credible than Cantor’s. O’s position on immigration is straightforward: He wants amnesty badly, partly for legacy reasons and partly because he’s understandably keen to legalize a few million future Democratic voters, and he’s hoping the GOP will go along so that he doesn’t have to do something risky like an executive moratorium on deportations. The GOP leadership’s position is anything but straightforward. They’re convinced that they need to pass some sort of immigration bill before 2016 or else Latinos will hand the White House

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances.
