| According to one former member of the White House Climate Change Task Force under President Clinton, President Obama may have plans to implement a carbon tax as soon as the fiscal cliff negotiations are settled. This is going to be a horrific four years. Any Republican that considers this is no better than the corrupt Democrats. It´s pure insanity. The VAT tax will be their next economy destroying scheme.

You know, a carbon tax may not be all that bad.
Sure it is regressive, people need to use a certain amount of energy to survive. The problem is there will be a desire to overcome this via another form of wellfare/income redistribution - this must be avoided.
But a carbon tax would be something that could be limited. If you don´t drive much, keep the clunker, new cars will increase in price dramatically. Keep your climate controlled space to a minimum. We are conservative, we know how to do this.
This would make the Edwards, Gores, Kerrys, Kenedys of the country pay for their outlandish life styles.
Most importantly, the tax could be collected reasonably easily as there are a limited number of energy suppliers. This would, of course, displace the IRS, a number of accountants and others that truly produce nothing of value, but simply provide services that are artifically necessary. Not all accountants would find themselves unemployed, as they would some would still be necessary to ensure businesses are run appropriately and efficiently.
I really don´t think those pushing the idea have any concept of the unintended consequences that this could release.

The House would never approve such a tax - unless they were forced to as part of any ´fiscal cliff´ agreements. And probably not then either.

This is the perfect tax for the libs. After a few years people will have no idea why they cannot live the lives their parents lived. The Libs will blame Exxon. Exxon will become even wealthier because will have a monopoly since no one else will be able to comply with the new, complex tax collection regulations. The Kennedy/Goldman Sachs types will do even better running carbon exchanges so they will not mind paying the taxes themselves.

This is so simple. Don´t agree to a fiscal cliff deal. When everyone is screaming about higher taxes and the economy is back in full recession, there will be zero desire to raise people´s power bills by 50%. Not for a purely theoretical effect, that will take 100 years to manifest itself, if we don´t slide into an ice age first.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
