| More than 30 years after the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, young people are again taking dangerous risks with their lives, according to a new report from the Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention. About 1,000 young people ages 13 to 24 are newly infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, each month, according to new data released for the first time. About 60% of HIV-positive young people have no idea that they´re infected, according to the report released Tuesday. Young people ages 13 to 24 account for more than a quarter of the 50,000 new HIV

If HIV-positive young people don´t know they´re infected, how does the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention know they´re infected? I´m not saying there isn´t a problem, I´m just wondering if these particular statistics have any scientific backing or if they´re more scare tactics to give the state more control over all of us.

The main cause of HIV infection among men is anal sex. Much smaller, but still the 2nd primary cause, is dirty IV needles.

Buried near the end is the only useful information; FTA: "Young gay and bisexual men, along with African Americans, are disproportionately affected. About 72% of new HIV infections in this age group occur in men who have sex with men, and 57% occur among African Americans, the CDC says."
Stay out of jail and prison, don´t get the AIDS. Or, if on the "down low" like the pResident and deluding one´s self that one is not homosexual, don´t assume immunity because the AIDS is a "white sissy disease."
Related note, ACLU is suing the state of Alabama for segregating HIV positive inmates from the general population.

#1 I wonder the same thing.
A few weeks ago it was World Diabetes Day and the web was filled with scare stories about the millions of people who didn´t realize they had diabetes. Well, if these diabetics and their doctors were unaware, how did some world diabetes organization know?

Wasn´t there an article last week suggesting mandated HIV testing for everyone under the age of 65?
I guess we´ll be seeing regular HIV articles over the next few months as everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
Ho hum.

Since we know how it´s spread, and how to avoid contracting it, it really is difficult to have much sympathy for new cases. In the early 80´s, with the long incubation period, I felt sorry for the victims. Now, not so much.

The only people I feel sorry for getting AIDs in this day and age are women who are raped (especially those in third world countries like those in Africa and such where it is common). Otherwise, we have known for 30 years how it is transmitted and it is almost completely controllable by behavior.

Is there a person with an IQ above freezing that doesn´t know how AIDS is spread? Really? Why are they trying to make it seem that ´anybody´ can get AIDS? We all knew what caused it 30 or so years ago. What changed? Nothing. So now they embark in a propaganda campaign to 100% of the people instead of the 1% that need it. Why now? Probably the LBTG vote.
The CDC should track the carriers and warn the partners. Not too politically correct, I know. Don´t want that? Too bad. I´ve got no problem. We are all free to do what we want. When people choose drugs and anal sex it will cost us all. But, mostly them.

Islamabad - Four US soldiers have been killed in an attack in Afghanistan hours after the US announced it will engage in its first formal direct talks with the Taliban after dropping its long-standing demand that the movement renounce ties with al-Qaeda in order for them to progress. A US official said insurgents attacked Bagram Air Base with "indirect fire", suggesting the soldiers were killed by mortars or rockets. There were very few details of the attack, which threatens to impact on the US´s first formal direct talks with the Taliban, due to start on Thursday. One key condition

Amazon and other e-commerce firms are cutting ties with all Minnesotans who earn money by posting links that send traffic to online merchants after lawmakers passed a tweak to state sales tax law. Minnesota E-Fairness legislation, signed by Gov. Mark Dayton on May 23 and going into effect July 1, classifies independent bloggers and online reviewers as a physical presence of a business in the state. This means online companies who pay these people to generate new sales must collect tax not just on those sales, but on all sales in the state. The tax on online

NEW YORK - You might think that moving to a state with no income tax would greatly simplify your tax life. Not so fast. If you´re not careful, it could greatly complicate things and cost you tons in back taxes and penalties. For example, if you are still planning to spend significant time in your former state, you better limit it to less than 183 days. Why? Spending any more time there could mean you´ll be treated as a resident of that state and therefore have to pay tax. And it´s not just days spent in-state

NEW YORK -- At perhaps a bad time in U.S. employment, it seems there´s a "perception gap" between what workers think they´re worth on the job and how employers see them. Analysis by Bryant & Stratton College with help from Wakefield Research from a survey among U.S. adults age 18 to 34 found that 80% of workers believe they are "job ready and possess all the skills, experience and education needed to advance in their desired career path or obtain their next job." Yet 40% of U.S. employers say most entry-level job candidates lack even the basic skills needed

BERLIN/FRANKFURT - European car sales plunged last month to their lowest May level in two decades, eroding manufacturers´ hopes for a recovery this year after a rebound the month before. Figures on Tuesday from the Association of European Carmakers showed Germany, France and Italy, accounting for about half of the embattled region´s sales, suffered declines at or near double-digit percentage levels. Registrations across the 27-nation European Union dropped 5.9 percent to 1.04 million cars from 1.11 million a year ago, the lowest since May 1993 when sales fell below 1 million, the Association said.

Turkey warned on Monday it may bring in the army to help quell nearly three weeks of nationwide anti-government protests as two major union federations went on strike over police violence against demonstrators. The government raised the threat of putting soldiers on the streets after a weekend of violent clashes sparked by the eviction of campers occupying Istanbul´s Gezi Park, the epicentre of the protest movement. Police "will use all their powers" to end the unrest, deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc said in a televised interview. "If this is not enough, we can even utilise the Turkish armed forces

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Is Marco Rubio, R-Fla., getting played by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.? During his interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl this morning, Rubio didn’t even seem to understand what that meant. “Are you being played by the Democrats?” asked Karl. “Is Chuck Schumer playing you?” “I don’t — I quite frankly, I don’t even know what that means,” Rubio replied. “Is he using you?” Karl continued. “Is he using you to try to accomplish something that the Democrats want and is not — not a conservative bill?” Rubio responded that immigration reform was a bi-partisan issue that “all Americans

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
