Kind of wonder where the white players are? All I see is a bunch of blacks on the field.

We don´t usually think of NFL and Traditional Values at the same time. Cashill tells the story of black, white, and half black star NFL athletes who are Christians from two parent homes and talk about it. Tim Tebow is not the white anomaly the media would have us believe.

This would be a good article to share with young people.

Did early Repliers read the article? Somehow they don´t seem to get Cashill´s point.

Well worth a little time. Not long, but an excellent and heartening read.

The article starts off about five black players from two-parent Christian families. Then Cashill goes on to name the Manning brothers, Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees and others to whom their Christian faith is important enough for them to talk about it as having an important place in their lives.

This was all in response to media coverage of Tim Tebow´s overt Christianity. He is not alone.

Even the intro should not send Repliers down such strange paths.

PS. The headline is a little misleading. Skeptics and cynics do need to read the article.

I was reading parts of the article out loud to my husband and he pointed out that ALL of these men have normal, everyday names, not those stupid made up names so many black Americans give their kids nowadays.

Also note that there was one father and one mother in those families.. And the mother had borne their sons. Almost Biblical, isn´t it? Thamks for pointing this out. A very great message here that requires very little comment.That´s because this is a good idea and it works!!!

The NFL still has alot of traditional values, but it is changing like the rest of society.

#2, perhaps you are watching your imaginary TV. NFL has plenty of white players.

#12, in the interest of ´fairness´, are there %87 white players? Because we sure want EVERYTHING to ´look like America´.

Sorry Mr. Cashill, I´m just one of those old geezers out here in flyover country who has followed the NFL since the 1940s.......Could someone please explain to me how an organization, presently compromised of over 20% felons, reflects our nation´s "traditional" Judeo-Christian values?

I wasn´t aware of this. The author makes some good points about Christian values and success. It may be nitpicking, but it´s Aaron R-o-d-g-e-r-s.

Looking at the glass half full, this is a pretty impressive core for the NFL. Are we Christians such skeptics that we don´t believe these guys have any influence?

There was a King of the Hill episode that illustrated the difference between little league football versus soccer. The football kids are definately getting traditional values. The soccer kids all got trophies because they are all special. Its the same in my town. Lots of volvos, save the whales and obama stickers at the soccer field versus pickups, yellow ribbons, and American flag bumper stickers at the footbal field.

The NFL burns through its players like matches.Life long debilitating concussions, bounties, fines for minor uniform infractions, rules for how one can practice their own freedom of speech in the form of a touch down celebration.
Allowing teams to move on the whim of a single owner and ignoring the concerns of the local fans supporters and taxpayers. Using public money to erect private monumental stadiums for megalomaniac owners. (See Jerry Jones.)

agree with #21... the NFL makes an enormous amount of money because if forces local governments to pay for a majority share of construction and upkeep of the facilities that the NFL uses. they can do this by threatening to move the team to a different city if they do not get their way...

hardly the values that i can admire.
