| Budget Policy: Republicans are being hounded mercilessly to abandon their no-tax pledge to get a deal on the fiscal cliff. So why aren´t Democrats facing any pressure to compromise on entitlement spending? Every Republican who happens to bump into a reporter these days is sure to be grilled on tax hikes. [snip] But while GOP leaders have been signaling a willingness to cut a deal — even if it means agreeing to some form of tax hike — Democrats are digging in against any meaningful changes to out-of-control entitlement programs.

No matter what happens the R´s will lose, period, end of story. So, why not let the RATS own the whole shebang by voting Present on such votes? Worked for a certain usurper...

The Republicans should just say we will not raise taxes in a down economy it is not only illogical but economically corrupt...and stick to it...Obama thinks he can blame this on the House Republicans...get out on the talk shows...and new media and explain and quit hiding...if we go over the cliff then blame Obama every inch of the way and demagogue as best you can saying "Obama ruined Christmas for everyone"...

It has always been about the spending. The horse is out of the barn now and the Republicans don´t have the "want to" to go chase it down and take control. The Republicans are only token opposition at this point. Why isn´t Paul Ryan taking the lead on these issues?
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."
We have reached this moment in time.

Spineless repubs will cave to higher taxes and no spending cuts. Kick this can down the road until the repubs can be blamed for the remaking of Greece and the dems can stay in power forever. Just pray for the government to be broke before the SS troops start breaking down doors.

Until the pain caused by taking from one group and giving to another is felt by the majority of the populace nothing will change regarding out of control wealth transfer. I don´t use the term entitlements because the problem is more than just the programs it is the special favors to supporters of all kinds that is killing us. An example is the study published yesterday that found Obama bundlers got $9 in grants and subsidies for every $1 they gave to the campaign. Let´s go over the fiscal cliff and let everyone´s taxes go up as well as accross the board cuts in spending. Then you will see the howling by the Obama supporters who actually do pay taxes as they realize their is no free lunch.

again, i think the Repugs should allow 0bama and the Dimms to own the economy and the tax rates. They are in control and need to be held responsible.
The battle should be over the debt ceiling. Once the tax rates are raised, what leverage do the Dimms have at that point?
I slso think allowing the tax rates to raise on the "rich" will allow the Dimms to make a deal on spending, as they can say that there is balanced pain (rich pay more - poor/takers get less)going forward.

The Demon-RATS clearly won the last election, and killed our republic in the process.
The people spoke loud and clear that the government´s main purpose is to give them ´´cool free stuff´´.
So the Demon-RATS aren´t going to budge on the giving of ´´cool free stuff´´ in the least so that they can keep getting all those great votes.
Our nation is dead. It´s just waiting for it to implode under the weight of it´s rotting corpse...

The republicans need to fight! Otherwise there is no reason to have them. Obama wanted a fiscal cliff. Now he has one and is feigning upset over. Obama wanted everything postponed until after the election. He got what he wanted.
Now the pubbies need to explain *the math* to the people. Obama´s tax on the rich will raise a whopping $85 billion - which will fund the fovernment for about a week. That is pathetic. But the people don´t know about it because the GOP is too stupid to explain it.
If Patty Murray and other dems want to go over the cliff - let it happen. 2014 is a long, long time from now. Let people get used to paying their fair share...

Earth to IBD... Obama is not talking to GOPers... ergo, they can´t pressure him! The only action GOPers can take is to inform the public that Obama is acting w/out congressional input... but that will be drowned out by Obama´s miscreants in the streets... unions, code pinko & moveon.org, blaming GOP for all the evils we will endure.
I wouldn´t be surprised if the MSM completely stop even interviewing GOPers & only focus on The Agenda.

Texas outperformed every other state in the nation on jobs and growth over the past decade, according to the latest annual report on state economic performance released Thursday by the American Legislative Exchange Council. Michigan came in dead last. The rankings are based on state GDP growth, population shifts, and changes in non-farm payroll jobs between 2001 and 2011. The ALEC report also finds that Utah has the best economic outlook this year, and Vermont the worst.

President Obama vastly exaggerated the spending cuts and deficit reduction his budget plan would produce, while dramatically undercounting the level of tax hikes, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis of his budget released Friday. When Obama put out his budget in mid-April he said that it "will reduce our deficits by nearly another $2 trillion," and "does so in a balanced and responsible way, a way that most Americans prefer." But the CBO report finds that Obama´s budget will cut 10-year deficits by just $1.1 trillion, with annual deficits starting to rise again after 2017.

Like everything else the IRS has said about the tax scandal, its explanation for why it ended up targeting conservative groups turns out to be completely false. Which raises the question: Why are IRS officials trying so desperately to hide what really went on? Ever since the tax scandal broke, top IRS officials have insisted that the reason it started singling out conservative groups for extra review was because the agency was getting a flood of tax-exempt applications. In an op-ed for USA Today, for example, Steven Miller

President Obama went to Texas on Thursday to kick off a nationwide tour pushing his economic policies, apparently unaware that Texas has thrived the past four years by doing pretty much the opposite of what Obama has prescribed. Since taking office, Obama has pushed more government as the way to get the economy moving. He dramatically boosted spending, imposed massive amounts of new regulations, ran enormous deficits, and has imposed more than $1 trillion in tax hikes.

Health Costs: Americans were promised that ObamaCare would make their health care more affordable. But a pair of studies show the new system has done nothing to lower health costs and will sharply raise them. Between 2009 and 2011, U.S. health spending rose just 3.9% a year, the lowest annual gains in decades. The Obama administration was quick to claim credit for the slowdown, with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius saying ObamaCare had "contributed to the slowest sustained growth in health spending in 50 years."

Medical Overhaul: Democrats fret about a "train wreck" when ObamaCare goes into effect next year. But the law is already a disaster for workers who´ve seen their hours and benefits cut as employers try to avoid its costs. As IBD´s Jed Graham reported late last week, government data clearly show that businesses are already cutting worker hours and benefits in advance of ObamaCare´s employer mandate, under which every business with 50 or more full-time workers will have to provide government-approved insurance.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been complaining a lot about money lately. Specifically, about how she doesn´t have enough to implement ObamaCare. [snip] The implication is that this is mainly the GOP´s fault — they are starving ObamaCare for money when it needs it most. The press has started to pick up on this talking point. Ezra Klein, who writes extensively on health care for the Washington Post, said Republicans are purposefully trying to derail ObamaCare´s launch.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
