Oprah at a Crossroads

LOS ANGELES — It’s not easy to find a fresh way to photograph Oprah Winfrey. That’s why the editors of O, The Oprah Magazine, recently tried to create a shot that recalled the glory days of Ms. Winfrey’s syndicated talk show. They arranged to photograph her for its April 2013 issue as she stepped onstage to speak to 5,000 attendees at the magazine’s annual conference, a New Age slumber party of sorts for women held at the convention center here last month.

Comments:
Apparently, it´s not easy being Oprah. . .

I admire Oprah´s work ethic. However, I´ve watched a few shows and read her magazine and I have to wonder. She is so restless - always seeking and she´s almost 60. Shouldn´t she have found herself by now?

Oprah severely damaged her brand when she endorsed BO and was so partisan during the 2008 election.

Oprah was the beginning of the end, along with Phil Donahue. They led our culture down the path of "ME", and here we sit today with a world full of "ME FIRST" "GIMME STUFF" society. Thanks, Oprah! FINE job!

Oprah tossed away half her audience and a lot of the trust and authority she built over the years in 2008 when she turned her show into an advertising vehicle for Obama´s campaign and herself into one of the Holy One´s hucksters.

Oprah thought her personal brand was strong enough to withstand her fawning over the Obamas. It wasn´t.

"It´s all about the message" says her highness. And what is the message? That looks don´t matter - except when they do. That focusing on weight is unhealthy but you should diet with Oprah. That spirituality is all important- and enjoy your party gifts! That you should never judge anyone or anything - except things that are bad. That dwelling on the past is wrong but you must stay in touch with your squalid, dark, ugly experiances in order to complain about injustices. Get the picture? Oprah - Thy name means "America is stupid."

The "favorite things" that she presents to the public is the ultimate liberal religious experience. She instantly picks winners and losers in choosing "things" and then reaps a part of their rewards.

What is most interesting about this article is that it at no time does her strong support of Barack Obama bear mention as to a part of her loss of popularity. It certainly played a part for me. I was always discouraged by the fact that her Oprah audience was 90% (or more) filled with adoring WHITE middle class women (and I´ll bet that is also who her subscribers and Oxygen viewers are), but her endorsement of Obama, bringing them along (plus a Black vote that didn´t need prodding), based, from what I could tell, on race alone (after all, she supposedly ditched Rev. Wright´s church herself but felt no qualms about Wright being Obama´s 20 year pastor, the Tony Rezko problems et al. That really cooked her for me, and it will be a long day in H--- before I, her much needed demographic, support her in any way again. I, indeed,. take a certain satisfaction in her problems. She used her charisma to promote Obama, a man she HAD to know was nothing but soaring rhetoric and soaring ego. And we are paying the price.

Former Congressman Jesse Jackson isn´t the only member of the house getting looked at by the feds, according to one published report. The Chicago Sun-Times, citing sources, reported Monday that federal investigators are also taking an independent look at former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson. Sandi Jackson acknowledged to NBC Chicago back in December that state officials had questioned her about a $69,000 discrepancy between her campaign finance reports and those of her husband. She blamed the conflict on clerical errors made by transitioning staff members and said amendments to her reports were being made

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a division of the Department of Homeland Security, confirmed to CNSNews.com on Tuesday that Obama, who is the president’s uncle, was granted a rehearing last week and his case is being re-opened.

When it comes to attracting business to California´s eastern deserts, Inyo County is none too choosy. Since the 19th century the sparsely populated county has worked to attract industries shunned by others, including gold, tungsten and salt mining. Standing behind the liquor store counter the man quietly and anonymously goes about his job serving customers. He had arrived for his shift promptly at 3pm after filling up his gleaming silver Toyota Rav 4 with gas and taking out the trash at his modest two-storey yellow clapboard house in a downtrodden Massachusetts neighbourhood. This a fascinating glimpse into the life of Onyango ‘Omar’ Obama, 68, the half-uncle of Barack Obama - and an illegal immigrant who Mitt Romney has already signalled should be deported if he wins his bid for the Presidency today.

A CIA document outlining a Mafia-connected plan to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro for $150,000 is among thousands of Robert F. Kennedy documents made public Thursday, just days before the 50th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis. In the 1964 plan, the mob and "patriotic Cuban exiles" eventually settled on a payment of $100,000 for assassinating Castro, $20,000 for his brother Raúl and $20,000 for revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, plus $2,500 for expenses.

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
