| As protests continued to rage in Tahrir Square and pretty much every political party in the country united in opposition to his newfound power, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi is surprised. It was three days ago that Morsi issued a decree that grants him immunity from the country´s courts, an aggressive move that practically gives the former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood unchecked authority and earned him the nickname "Pharaoh." To us folks stateside, this all sounds quite unbelievable, since last year, the Egyptian people rose up in fury to oust Hosni Mubarak whom they believed had too much power.

I think you have to remember that President Morsi is a product of the Brothers, who were repressed and attacked throughout the Mubarik years.
He probably figures "They took it from him, they´ll take it from me". In that, he has missed the core of the "Arab Spring" - they are not taking it anymore!

Don´t get too excited. The protestors don´t stand a chance. Remember the protests in Iran when over a hundred thousand protested against the oppressive Islamist government a couple of years ago? It was brutally put down by the Ahmadinijad´s government which was backed by the "Supreme Leader", Ayatollah Khemeini. This protest in Egypt will meet the same end. Its what Islamic governements do. They don´t have to worry, they have Allah on their side.

But that grim immediate outlook raises a far more troubling longer-term prospect for Democrats: that the newly drawn congressional lines have tilted the electoral playing field so decisively in the GOP’s favor that the party could control the House through 2020. That this, in other words, could be the Democrats’ Lost Decade. Three of the past four elections have produced partisan upheaval, so political forecasting must be approached with caution.

Men´s Wearhouse no longer likes the way George Zimmer looks. Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company. Men´s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer´s departure -- which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer´s departure would not affect operations.

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. While Pete is correct that the NSA story seems to be hurting voters’ opinion of Obama’s trustworthiness, Americans are by now realizing that they would be foolish to go the other extreme and place that trust in Snowden. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn.
