Christie pegs New Jersey´s
Sandy damage at $29.4 billion

Philadelphia Inquirer, by James Osborne

Gov. Christie estimates that Sandy cost New Jersey $29.4 billion in damage and economic losses, from washed-out roadways and waterlogged homes to manning storm shelters. "This preliminary number is based on the best available data, field observations, and geographical mapping," Christie said in a statement released Friday evening. "I will spare no effort and waste no time to rebuild and restore our tourism industry, our transportation and utilities infrastructure, and the lives of our citizens for the long term." The estimate is considered a crucial step for Christie, who recently consulted with governors from Louisiana and Mississippi

Sorry, but I´ve lost respect for Christie--and it is hard to gather much sympathy for the Obama voting leaches of NJ/NY....

Of course I do have sympathy and compassion, but it isn´t coming naturally...

Oh, OK - - people choose to build homes and businesses right on the edge of the ocean - - then - - when the ocean acts as oceans do - - and crushes their buildings or washes them away - - other people - - who live in sensible places away from the ocean - - have to pay for it.

Yeah - - makes sense to me - - sounds pretty good.

Live as irresponsibly as you want - - and other people will pick up the tab for your recklessness. And Fat Boy will help force them to cough it over.

God bless America - - laaaaand that I love!!!

Good luck to the big fella, but the rest of the country has no money to give him.

"...I feel obliged to withhold my approval of the plan as proposed by this bill, to indulge a benevolent and charitable sentiment through the appropriation of public funds for that purpose.

I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the general government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit. A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power and duty should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that, though the people support the government, the government should not support the people.

The friendliness and charity of our countrymen can always be relied upon to relieve their fellow citizens in misfortune. This has been repeatedly and quite lately demonstrated. Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character, while it prevents the indulgence among our people of that kindly sentiment and conduct which strengthens the bonds of a common brotherhood."
President Grover Cleveland, 1887

I´m sure the Jersey unions will be happy to take care of that tab. Otherwise, tax the citizenry - that´s all we know anymore.

$5.2 billion
if they use non-union labor,
if there are no kickbacks for NJ politicians,
if organized crime is not involved.

"I will spare no effort"

"I"? "I"? When his lips touched the Obama backside there must have been some magical transference or something. He now SOUNDS like Obama, full of big, personal promises. We´ll see how he does when the black mayor of Newark runs against him for governor next year. If Christie thinks Obama will support him over a black man he is living in a fantasy world. Make fun of him while we still can, because his career ends in 2013. Bye Chris.

Taxes for people in New Jersey are estimated to go up nearly $7,000 next year due to the democrats getting rid of the Bush tax cuts.

Gov Christie has already stated that he expects to tax the people even more to pay for the damage.

People will lose their homes as they cannot pay the extra taxes. Makes no nevermind to the democrats as the insiders get to buy up the foreclosed properties at a discount.

You know once the damage is repaired those taxes will never go back down. Never.

I think of Chris Christie the same way I think of Justice Roberts and that ain´t sayin´ much these days. He´s part of the problem, not the solution.

Tens of millions of this were due to mismanagement by the Christie admin. NJ Transit parked trains in two rail yards that forecasters said would be flooded by Sandy. One third of the locomotives were damaged and a quarter of the passenger cars. Christie obviously chose the wrong person to run the operation. These millions will be judged losses from catastrophic man-caused excess CO2 for which evil Americans must pay reparations now and in perpetuity to Goldman Sachs.

No problem with NJ citzens paying for it, or FEMA for that matter. FEMA is broke and in debt, but guess what? You got it. Congress is going to borrow more money to bail out FEMA. And some more money to bail out the FHA. There will be NO cuts; only more taxes because those sterling elistists in congress need to get reelected soon and all they know is how to spend money. Not a single one of them ever heard of the word ´thrift´, much less spell it or practice it.

Being a Christian I feel very sorry for all of those in New Jersey who have suffered so much. Being from Texas it has been a long time since the Federal Government did much for us other than doing all in it´s power to keep us from drilling for oil and gas. Christie of course is a politician and must do what he is doing to keep the folks at home happy so they will vote for him again. If he was a true conservative he would tell the Feds to take a flying leap and get on with repairing his state as we in Texas have learned to do.

WASHINGTON — An Internal Revenue Service watchdog testified Friday that he told Obama administration officials in June that he was looking into allegations the IRS targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status. The revelation by Inspector General Russell George came at the first congressional hearing on the IRS misconduct, which has generated a political firestorm since it was disclosed a week ago. George’s testimony represented the first evidence that officials in the Obama administration knew of the allegations as long as a year ago, during the presidential campaign.

Fox News host Jon Scott thinks the big three network evening news programs are already starting to tire of President Obama‘s “trifecta” of scandals. Scott outlined exactly how long ABC, CBS and NBC spent discussing development in the Benghazi, IRS and AP stories Thursday night, before asking his guests, “Is there scandal fatigue?” Judith Miller began by taking a swipe at the “mainstream media,” saying, “when issues get complicated and the press have to do a lot of filling in of facts that perhaps they haven’t bothered to report before, yes, things do get complicated

Senior Obama administration officials where notified almost a year ago that an inspector general was looking into the IRS’s treatment of conservative groups, a watchdog said on Friday. Russell George, Treasury’s inspector general (IG) for tax administration, testified that he told the department’s general counsel and Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin about the probe around June of 2012 — months after media reports started detailing Tea Party complaints about the IRS. George stressed that he told the officials merely that a probe was underway. After the hearing, aides at the inspector general’s office later said it’s standard practice

CHICAGO — The Angus burger is going away, and it may not be the only McDonald´s dish on the chopping block. The world´s largest restaurant chain has also considered axing Caesar salads, the McSkillet Burrito, the Southern Style Biscuit and steak bagels, according to a franchisee email obtained by Bloomberg News. While the Angus burger contains as many as 820 calories and costs $4, the culling isn´t simply about offering healthier fare and cheaper items. It´s an effort by McDonald´s Corp. to streamline a menu that has expanded by 70 percent to about 145 items since 2007 — straining

You may have heard that there are a variety of scandals unfolding in Washington D.C. at the moment. Scandals swirling around the White House this week include revelations that the Internal Revenue Service singled out conservative groups for intimidation, that the Department of Justice may have expressed their frustration with the Associated Press by obtaining an absurdly wide swath of phone records, and the ever-unfolding scandal surrounding Benghazi and the administration’s response to that attack. With all these overwhelming controversies enveloping the executive branch, one question dominates in the media: When will Republicans overstep in their effort to criticize

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). “I look forward to taking some questions at tomorrow’s press conference,” President Obama said last night, after announcing the resignation of the acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller. The president scheduled a noon press conference today with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in honor of his visit. Reporters, however, found themselves waiting outside in the rain for Obama, who was 47 minutes late. Only New York Times reporter Mark Landler had an umbrella.
