Bleak Friday: Israeli

Disappointed; Bibi Drops in Polls

As Wednesday night´s cease-fire went into effect--amidst continuing rocket fire from Hamas--many Israeli reservists returned home disappointed that the government had not launched the ground attack for which they had been called up. One soldier, quoted by Ynetnews, said that "as a resident of Beersheba [which was hit by several rocket attacks] there is a sense of disappointment. (The violence) will repeat itself and we´ll find ourselves back here again and again. They (government) should have let us complete the mission." Much of the Israeli public agrees that a ground war would have been preferable to no

Sigh. So the politicians in Isreal let Hamas dictate the start and end of the conflict.

Isreal should have continued to punish the Hamas leadership and Gaza infrastructure for at least a week after Hamas began wailing for a cease-fire. Furthermore, when Hamas predictably fired a single missile several hours after the cease-fire, Isreal should have declared the cease-fire ended by Hamas and punished them for several more weeks.

Netanyahu is not stupid. He does not want to precipitate all out war with the rest of the world, knowing that Obama will abandon them. It is clear that Obama threatened to cut off support if the Israelis did not accept the cease fire. But it is also becoming clear to all who are willing to see that Obama will break any deals he makes with Israel if he finds it expedient to do so. Beware of antichrists bearing peace agreements.

This type of solution almost guarantees that a soon-to-be future round will be nuclear. The Israelis will be forced to go it alone and that means they will have no choice. They will have to nuke every military base in the ME.

To end these flukes....

...just use the nukes.

Bibi wants to touch all the bases before heading for home.

Much as I hate Barky and the Barkettes, this should prove to be a very exciting 4 years.

Can we trade Obama for Bibi?

I long to see an Israeli commander looking off towards Gaza, and beyond toward Syria and Iran, then simply saying, like Maximus in The Gladiator, "Unleash hell. "

The lesson for Israel from its aborted military exercise against Hamas last week is: if Israel wants to win wars during the Obama years, it must complete them in less than eight days -- which was the amount of time needed by Obama to get his anti-Israel act together and send Hillary to Jerusalem to threaten and browbeat Bibbi into agreeing to a ceasefire.

It´s likely to take Hamas awhile to replenish its missile supply, but when it starts firing rockets again into Israeli kindergartens, Israel should wait for Obama to go on a vacation before retaliating with everything it has in its arsenal before Obama has time to make it back to the White House.

In a long-awaited speech at the National Defense University, Barack Obama claimed that the nature of international terror attacks threatening the United States has changed since Sept. 11, 2001, with ´no large-scale attacks´ on America occurring since then. But his definition of ´large-scale attacks,´ his speech made clear, doesn´t include the 2013 Boston Marathon attack that wounded hundreds, the 2012 Benghazi terror attack that injured dozens and killed four, and the 2009 attack at Fort Hood that killed 13 and injured 30. All those attacks had the potential to leave far more American bodies in their wake than they actually did.

Another major political speech, another Code Pink heckling. During President Obama‘s counterterrorism policy speech at National Defense University on Thursday afternoon, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin interrupted when the topic turned to the closing of the military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. “I’m about to address it, ma’am,” Obama said as Benjamin went off about the hunger strike currently taking hold amongst Gitmo detainees. “Why don’t you sit down? But you’ve got to let me speak.” “You are commander-in-chief! You can close Gitmo today!”

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday announced new restraints on targeted killings and narrowed the scope of the long struggle with terrorists as part of a transition to a day he envisions when the nation will no longer be on the war footing it has been on since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In a widely anticipated speech at the National Defense University, Mr. Obama offered his most expansive defense of the drone war he has waged since taking office, but he signaled that he planned to wind down the strikes, which have stirred controversy

RNC Chair Spars With MSNBC’s

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus grew a bit testy during his Morning Joe appearance on Thursday as the other guests — John Heilemann in particular — challenged his assertions regarding the IRS scandal. Right from the start, Heilemann objected to Priebus inferring guilt from IRS official Lois Lerner‘s using her Fifth Amendment right. Lerner didn’t do herself any favors by choosing not to answer any questions at yesterday’s congressional hearing, Priebus argued — “which, whether you agree with it as a basis of law or not, implies there are some criminal aspects of this investigation.”

A new book out in Germany reveals how President Kennedy was a secret admirer of the Nazis. The news comes embarrassingly close to a visit being paid to Berlin next month by President Obama - one week before 50th anniversary commemorations of JFK´s memorable ´Ich bin ein Berliner´ speech pledging US solidarity with Europe during the Cold War. President Kennedy´s travelogues and letters chronicling his wanderings through Germany before WWII, when Adolf Hitler was in power, have been unearthed and show him generally in favour of the movement that was to plunge the world into the greatest war in history.

Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of the survey´s participants awarding it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
