The KEY to figuring it out may be the form used for the msg. They don´t show it completely in the video. It appears to we in English [or American]. The actual code is too short to give you enough for the computers. You must understand that there is a different code used for each letter of the msg. So you do need the code book. And military crypto labs are generally trash-less [everything gets burned, even candy wrappers]. The NSA would keep copies for a limited time and then burn.

Probablly says something like, "Please send a different bird next time. This little fellow seemed cold and kept trying to get next to our stove here in the trench."

If it´s a one time cypher it probably never will be cracked. That´s the advantage of the system. It´s not like that´s some big surprise.

It looks like the "spy numbers" codes I used to hear on short wave in the 1980´s. Best guess is they were coming from Florida or Cuba. They were 5 number groups spoken in Spanish. Never was able to make sense of them.

Probably from a long-lost one-time pad. Good luck cracking that (Although the NSA could probably do it if they wanted to waste a few trillion CPU clock ticks on it).

A one time pad without the key (assuming the key was longer than the message--no repetition) will never be broken. All a supercomputer can do is give all possible solutions--a really, really, REALLY big number of solutions, most gibberish but a HUGE number of clear-text too.

oops...one break they may catch is *if* the key was not mathematically random. Still the key length may obviate that. ugh...to much like math and as we all know "Math is hard".
