Pope Benedict Disputes
Jesus’ Date of Birth

Time Magazine, by Sorcha Pollak

Pope Benedict XVI has revealed in the third installment of his trilogy, dedicated to the life of Christ, that Jesus may have been born earlier than previously thought. The calendar we use today, which commences with the birth of Christ and was created by a Dionysius Exiguus, a sixth century monk, may be mistaken. According to the Telegraph, the Pope explains in his book that Exiguus, who is considered the inventor of the Christian calendar, “made a mistake in his calculations by several years. The actual date of Jesus’ birth was several years before.” The suggestion that Jesus wasn’t actually born

Comments:
Before some of my fellow Catholics start swaying back and forth, this was an interesting read...till the last part about some competing English Unitarian minister. If they had just stuck to what my Pope Benedict XVI had written, it would have been a worthy article. But, Time had to slip in someone who doesn´t have the ´´resources or access´´ to the documents to clarify matters of Faith.

The fools of Time mixed up the Immaculate Conception (Mary born without inherent and inherited sin) and the virgin birth. The virgin birth is a sign predicted in the Old Testament (Isaiah?? A virgin will be with child.). It is axiomatic that virgins don´t have kids and dead people don´t come back to life. If either occurs something outside of nature has taken place. Mary was conceived in the normal mammalian way. The method of her conception was not evil, and her being spared a sinful nature was not tied to the method of her conception. As an aside, Christ not being born in sin like the rest of us is because He is the Second Person of the Trinity, not because His mother was a virgin.

Nit picking about the actual date of birth is that and nothing more. The exact date of the birth of Jesus has always been disputed and it doesn´t matter.

As for the animals ..... The Pope read the Bible and it doesn´t mention the animals. That isn´t news either but maybe there were animals in the vicinity. Does it matter?

Jesus was born and lived. That is a fact and
it matters a lot. Jesus changed the world we live in more than any person in history.

Time makes it sound as if this was some big deal or new revelation that somehow discredits Christianity, or so they hope. Scholars have known for a long time that Jesus was not born in the year 0 or 1 A.D. Bringing in a Unitarian who wouldn´t believe anything about the nativity account in any case is typical of their desperation.

Don´t the unitarians, like the episcopalians, embrace sodomy and sodomite bishops?

I would trust either group on ANY church issue as much as I would obamao!

For 20+ years it has been possible to precisely calculate/demonstrate the lunar eclipse seen at the death of Herod. That narrows it down significantly. Exiguus is not far off.

#2 is right. But the animals might reasonably be inferred from them being in the place where travelers keep their animals overnight, and that there was a manger there indicates the space was actively used for animals. But whether there were animals or not is unimportant, no matter how interesting it might be.

The left is going to make hay out of the Pope´s assertions because they´ll help implode the myth of Jesus, from the left´s viewpoint.

I really wish the Pope would concentrate on excommunicating pro abortion and gay marriage catholic politicians than writing theories and and canonizing new saints.

Twelve gold bars removed

Doctors can be hard people to shock, but a recent case left one surgeon flabbergasted. A 63-year-old man came to hospital complaining of vomiting and stomach pain. He claimed he´d swallowed the lid of a bottle in an act of anger during a marital dispute, and was given an x-ray. Doctors knew what they were seeing was no bottle cap, but it was not until they operated on the man that the source of his complaint was revealed. Twelve bars of gold weighing nearly 400g were found in the man´s stomach and removed. The BBC reports that police and customs authorities had questioned the businessman and confiscated the gold.

Sydney - A strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea´s Bougainville Island on Saturday but there was no risk of a widespread tsunami, seismologists said. The quake, scaled back from an initial reported magnitude of 6.9, hit at 0104 GMT and was centred 59 kilometres (36 miles) southwest of the town of Panguna on Bougainville at a depth of 24 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. In its initial estimate the USGS said there was a low likelihood of casualties and damage. According to the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center there was no threat of a destructive widespread tsunami based on historical data.

Doha, Qatar - The Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic political organization that has been defanged in almost every area where it was once a key player, has driven a deep rift between the Gulf´s two most powerful players. Months of tension between Qatar and its neighbors came to a head last month when Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) withdrew their ambassadors. Although the regional Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced yesterday that the parties had resolved their disagreement, that will likely remain a surface-level fix unless Qatar abandons its support of the Muslim Brotherhood – something it

Obama administration puts off

Washington - The Obama administration is putting off its decision on the Keystone XL oil pipeline, likely until after the November elections, by extending its review of the controversial project indefinitely. In a surprise announcement Friday as Washington was winding down for Easter, the State Department said federal agencies will have more time to weigh in on the politically fraught decision — but declined to say how much longer. Officials said the decision will have to wait for the dust to settle in Nebraska, where a judge in February overturned a state law that allowed the pipeline´s path through the state.

Washington - The National Archives on Friday released its largest batch yet of previously withheld documents from the Clinton administration, with topics including the conflicts in Somalia and Rwanda, Middle East peace negotiations, the Oklahoma City bombing and public figures as varied as Richard M. Nixon and Oprah Winfrey. The bundle that is likely to receive the most attention, though, is one that covers Hillary Rodham Clinton’s ill-fated attempt as first lady to overhaul the health care system. Mrs. Clinton, who ran for president in 2008, is considering a second attempt in 2016. Here are some notable sections:

Washington - The CIA’s former top lawyer disputes Senate findings that the spy agency lied about its brutal interrogations of terrorists, insisting the tactics produced useful intelligence and flatly denying that the CIA misled the former Bush administration, Congress and the American public. At the same time, John Rizzo, who left the CIA as acting general counsel in 2009, said some CIA employees or contractors were overzealous in the use of the tactics but that the CIA informed lawyers at the Justice Department of the excesses. Rizzo was responsible for helping to create the legal foundation for permitting waterboarding,

GM to seek court protection

General Motors Co said it would ask a U.S. court to bar lawsuits related to actions before its 2009 bankruptcy, signaling a tougher stance toward legal claims stemming from its recent recall over faulty ignition switches. GM has said it is protected from liability for claims related to incidents that occurred before it exited bankruptcy in 2009, and has taken steps to raise those issues with the court by filing motions to stay recall-related lawsuits while it asks that bankruptcy court to clarify the extent of that protection. In a filing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday, GM asked for a stay on litigation

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.
