Pope Benedict Disputes
Jesus’ Date of Birth

Time Magazine, by Sorcha Pollak

Pope Benedict XVI has revealed in the third installment of his trilogy, dedicated to the life of Christ, that Jesus may have been born earlier than previously thought. The calendar we use today, which commences with the birth of Christ and was created by a Dionysius Exiguus, a sixth century monk, may be mistaken. According to the Telegraph, the Pope explains in his book that Exiguus, who is considered the inventor of the Christian calendar, “made a mistake in his calculations by several years. The actual date of Jesus’ birth was several years before.” The suggestion that Jesus wasn’t actually born

Comments:
Before some of my fellow Catholics start swaying back and forth, this was an interesting read...till the last part about some competing English Unitarian minister. If they had just stuck to what my Pope Benedict XVI had written, it would have been a worthy article. But, Time had to slip in someone who doesn´t have the ´´resources or access´´ to the documents to clarify matters of Faith.

The fools of Time mixed up the Immaculate Conception (Mary born without inherent and inherited sin) and the virgin birth. The virgin birth is a sign predicted in the Old Testament (Isaiah?? A virgin will be with child.). It is axiomatic that virgins don´t have kids and dead people don´t come back to life. If either occurs something outside of nature has taken place. Mary was conceived in the normal mammalian way. The method of her conception was not evil, and her being spared a sinful nature was not tied to the method of her conception. As an aside, Christ not being born in sin like the rest of us is because He is the Second Person of the Trinity, not because His mother was a virgin.

Nit picking about the actual date of birth is that and nothing more. The exact date of the birth of Jesus has always been disputed and it doesn´t matter.

As for the animals ..... The Pope read the Bible and it doesn´t mention the animals. That isn´t news either but maybe there were animals in the vicinity. Does it matter?

Jesus was born and lived. That is a fact and
it matters a lot. Jesus changed the world we live in more than any person in history.

Time makes it sound as if this was some big deal or new revelation that somehow discredits Christianity, or so they hope. Scholars have known for a long time that Jesus was not born in the year 0 or 1 A.D. Bringing in a Unitarian who wouldn´t believe anything about the nativity account in any case is typical of their desperation.

Don´t the unitarians, like the episcopalians, embrace sodomy and sodomite bishops?

I would trust either group on ANY church issue as much as I would obamao!

For 20+ years it has been possible to precisely calculate/demonstrate the lunar eclipse seen at the death of Herod. That narrows it down significantly. Exiguus is not far off.

#2 is right. But the animals might reasonably be inferred from them being in the place where travelers keep their animals overnight, and that there was a manger there indicates the space was actively used for animals. But whether there were animals or not is unimportant, no matter how interesting it might be.

Thanks for correcting the error, #1. The Time reporter may not have been present at the virgin birth, but he certainly is an -ss.

This means it´s really 2007 and we have to relive two Obama victories over again. Oh Christ....

The left is going to make hay out of the Pope´s assertions because they´ll help implode the myth of Jesus, from the left´s viewpoint.

I really wish the Pope would concentrate on excommunicating pro abortion and gay marriage catholic politicians than writing theories and and canonizing new saints.

Washington - A key committee in the Republican-led House has taken up a tough enforcement-focused immigration bill, but the proceedings were immediately interrupted by protesters shouting "Shame, shame!" More than a dozen protesters began chanting as soon as Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia gaveled the committee hearing open Tuesday. Goodlatte stopped the proceedings until the protesters were ushered into the hall, where their shouts could still be heard. Goodlatte said the bill under consideration, which empowers local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration

It’s been two years since NASA’s space shuttle program came to an end, but thousands of Americans still dream of becoming astronauts. Eight of them – four men and four women – were introduced Monday as NASA’s astronaut candidate class for 2013. (Snip) The bios of the eight people selected will probably make you feel like a bit of a slacker. Two of them have PhDs and one is a physician training in sports medicine. Four have experience as test pilots for the Navy or Air Force. One person is working at the Pentagon on ways to defeat the homemade bombs that have plagued troops in Iraq and

Washington - After Republicans lost the presidential election and seats in both the House and the Senate last year, many in the party offered a stern admonishment: If we want to broaden our appeal, steer clear of divisive social and cultural issues. Yet after the high-profile murder trial of an abortion doctor in Philadelphia this spring, many Republicans in Washington and in state capitals across the country seem eager to reopen the emotional fight over a woman’s right to end a pregnancy. (Snip) The bill stands no chance of becoming law, with Democrats in control of the Senate and the White House.

Tehran - President-elect Hassan Rowhani of Iran, speaking Monday for the first time since his election victory, said he wanted to reduce tensions with the United States but ruled out direct talks between the two estranged nations. In his first news conference after winning Friday’s presidential election promising more freedoms and better relations with the outside world, Mr. Rowhani called the issue of nonexistent relations between Iran and the United States “an old wound, which must be healed.” Iran, he said, wants to reduce tensions between the two countries, which have no diplomatic relations and are

Washington - Pharmaceutical companies that pay rivals to keep less-expensive generic versions of best-selling drugs off the market can expect greater federal scrutiny after a Supreme Court ruling on Monday. In a 5-to-3 vote, the justices effectively said that the Federal Trade Commission can sue pharmaceutical companies for potential antitrust violations, a decision that is likely to increase the number of generic drugs in the marketplace and benefit consumers. Specifically, the justices threw out lower-court rulings that said the agreements were legal, provided that a deal did not keep a generic

President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, put their escalating differences over Syria on display even as they agreed to urge both sides in the civil war there to the negotiating table. Washington - Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who exposed the U.S. government´s top-secret surveillance programs, fought back against his critics on Monday and denied allegations that he was a spy for China. Snowden told an online forum run by Britain´s Guardian newspaper that he revealed the programs in part out of disappointment with President Barack Obama, who he said had expanded "abusive" government programs while in office. Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Is Marco Rubio, R-Fla., getting played by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.? During his interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl this morning, Rubio didn’t even seem to understand what that meant. “Are you being played by the Democrats?” asked Karl. “Is Chuck Schumer playing you?” “I don’t — I quite frankly, I don’t even know what that means,” Rubio replied. “Is he using you?” Karl continued. “Is he using you to try to accomplish something that the Democrats want and is not — not a conservative bill?” Rubio responded that immigration reform was a bi-partisan issue that “all Americans

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
