Study: Pregnant teens need
better school support

Miami — When 15-year-old Kali Gonzalez became pregnant, the honors student considered transferring to an alternative school. She worried teachers would harass her for missing class because of doctor´s appointments and morning sickness. A guidance counselor urged Gonzalez not to, saying that could lower her standards. Instead, her counselor set up a meeting with teachers at her St. Augustine high school to confirm she could make up missed assignments, eat in class and use the restroom whenever she needed. Gonzalez, who is now 18, kept an A-average while pregnant. She capitalized on an online school program for parenting

Comments:
Article goes on to mention that teen pregnancy is rewarded with taxpayer-funded transportation, tutoring, and even child care while in school. And then comes the welfare, free housing, etc.

I guess there is no point in students learning that bad decisions have consequences.

Pregnant teens should get no special treatment. How about a good scolding and school courses on-line.

Of course they do, because as we all know, being pregnant at 15 is such a normal and natural occurrence. They should also be allowed to breast feed in class an a diaper changing station needs to be installed in the back of every public school classroom in America......../s

If the schools were doing such a good job of sex education why do they need to be better supporters of pregnant teens? I thought these great programs they have with sex education were supposed to stop this kind of thing.

I thought public schools were handing out birth control pills and condoms.

"They" tell us that abstinence instruction doesn´t work. Apparently the birth control pills and condoms don´t work either. /s

Having taught in a school for pregnant and parenting students for more than a decade I feel I have a bit to add to this discussion. Pregnancy does not just randomly happen to teens. Usually it occurs in teens whose lives are already out of control. It is my opinion that pregnant teens need to be in a separate school where they can be provided with nursing, counseling and educational services. It is very fine to have smart remarks to say about the girls, the schools and their parents but that misses the point. They are carrying a child and providing services to the mother saves our society from an incredible amount of future costs. I do think we need to re-think our approach to which mothers retain custody of their offspring but that is a discussion for another day.

I am old. When I was in high school it was a disgrace for a girl to get pregnant. It happened TWO times while I was in school.
Each girl went to her distant Aunt´s home, had the baby gave it up for adoption, then came home and got her GED.
Going to school with big bellies probably seems cool to the other students. Think of all the stories they have to tell the others. A 15 YO pregnant girl should not be able to keep the child. Period.

An unmarried teenager mother is most likely doomed to poverty for the rest of her 60 to 70 years of life. Her male offspring is likely to be a juvenile delinquent and a professional criminal in the years he doesn´t spend in prison. He´ll spend his early years disrupting classes before dropping out at age 16. He can rarely be rehabilitated or avoid incarceration. A daughter will most likely follow her mother´s multiple unwed pregnancies, with welfare agencies serving as the surrogate father.

Society would be better to offer the pregnant teen an abortion with a cash bonus rather than have her inflict her costly backwardness on the rest of us. Perhaps sterilization of the mother and father for cars, bling & cash should be mandatory because he has little to no intention of being a husband and father while she will have 2 to 4 more illegits to dump onto us.

A few years back I took a class at a tech school. Pregnant teens were bussed in and out for classes all day. Ashamed ? Don´t think so. Some of these girls have up to three kids before leaving high school. They had onsite daycare and parenting classes. When the baby is older, taxpayers paid for a private daycare. They receive welfare checks before the baby is even born, WIC for food plus, everything that baby needs when it arrives.

That being said, the last line of the article says she is pursuing a nursing career. Good for her.

The report, into three schools in the city, follows weeks of controversy over the alleged plot to “Islamise” secular schools in Birmingham

Louisville, Ky. — Could climate change mean paying more for your morning cup of coffee? One climate panel says "yes." According to the intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), pests, rising heat and extreme temperatures resulting from climate change may actually impact the supply of coffee. The news has those in the coffee industry worried. "I am very concerned," said Mauricio Galindo, head of International Coffee Organization. "I would say climate change is the most serious threat to the sustainability of the coffee supply chain right now." The IPCC says that a temperature rise of just 2 to 2.5 centigrades

Roughly 25 Muslim drivers dispatched to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are refusing to drive cabs adorned with advertising for the region’s upcoming Gay Games, citing religious reasons. Two of the three companies operating at Ohio´s largest airport were informed by the drivers — one-third of the airport’s total fleet — last week that they will no longer participate in the airport’s dedicated taxicab program. The companies, Ace and Yellow Taxi Cab, were told by the drivers that their decision was based on religious reasons, airport spokeswoman Jacqueline Mayo told FoxNews.com. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
