| Belmar- The borough of Belmar introduced a $20 million bond measure at Wednesday’s council meeting that is designed to rebuild the town’s boardwalk, destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, in time for summer. According to Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty, $17 million of the bond measure, which will have its first reading at the council meeting, will go toward constructing a new boardwalk, and the other $3 million will be set aside for ongoing post-storm cleanup efforts.(snip) “It’s our understanding is that FEMA will pick up 75 percent of the expense, based on the language coming from the White House,”

Ah, delicious federal gravy for Thanksgiving!
The nation´s taxpayers will fork over $15 million to rebuild a boardwalk ("free money" guarantees a high cost, with extra pocket money for some), then will have to pay an additional $8 for a daily "beach badge" to visit the thing.

Wouldn`t rebuilding a boardwalk be just like rebuilding a house on a flood plane? Another violent storm could knock down a new boardwalk before the bonds are paid off.

I´m sure it´s important to the people of Belmar, NJ, to rebuild their boardwalk, but where in the hell is the EMERGENCY that warrants FEMA giving our tax dollars to this town for an absolute non-emergency?
One can´t help but think Belmar being in a deep blue state helped to secure (fast track, even) $15 million taxpayer dollars. A few phone calls to the right people, and presto, it´s a done deal.
Maybe Krispy Kreme Christy just called his new BFF and asked for a little payback. That´s how leftists work, after all.

They could have insured this--but they self-insured--and this agent wants to know which part of "self-insurance" people do not understand. Why even bother? Save the premium and let the 49 other states replace this boardwalk, eh? I am tired of it!

FEMA is broke. Barry needs taxes raised to pay 75% of the cost for a NJ boardwalk. NJ is broke. Not only will the Bush tax cut expiration hit them the hardest, but their taxes will go up to pay for another boardwalk.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
