Indiana taxpayers will receive a $111 credit on their state income tax returns next year as the state distributes part of its budget surplus. Gov. Mitch Daniels on Wednesday announced the credit that will be $222 for couples filing joint returns. The credit represents the automatic taxpayer refund plan that Daniels pushed through the state Legislature last year.

We had one of those in California in the early 1980´s, but the Democrats vowed, and Willie Brown in particular, to never let that happen again, and it hasn´t.

This is an idea that Republicans can galvanize the populace - gov´t is okay, but it should be well-run, effective, efficient (utilize bulk buying of products and services, and responsible.

Who´s against that?

Takes away a Dem issue when it´s acknowledged Republicans support gov´t, and gov´t workers, but not simply inefficient government.

I voted for Mitch twice. Thanks for returning tax payer money to the tax payer. I would like to suggest if you think this is a bad idea then refuse to accept it when you file. Or write a check to your local school if you don´t think they get enough and carelessly spend a lot. I wonder how many people will refuse the credit? Not many I bet.

I am so glad to live in a state with a Republican Governor who can count and understood business! Whenever I visit my friends in California they sometimes make fun of me for living in a state of mostly cornfields. I then ask them what their tax rate is and did´t I hear that you have a budget deficit this year? And didn´t I read that your state has the highest poverty rate of all States in the Union. They general smile and quit mentioning our cornfields.

#3, have you been reading my email? (Joking)

I just received an email from my liberal sister-in-law saying it´s only $9.25 a month and she´d prefer the surplus went to hire more teachers because classrooms are overcrowded. I just rolled my eyes and hit "delete".

should read: government takes $111 LESS of taxpayers money.

The philosophy is all wrong here. It´s our money to begin with.

Gov. Mike Pence has signed a bill pulling Indiana from the reading and math education standards adopted by most states around the country. The governor´s office says Pence signed on Monday the proposal approved by legislators requiring the State Board of Education to draft new standards outlining what students should be learning in each grade rather than using the Common Core standards currently in place. Pence said in a statement he believed Indiana´s students are best served by education decisions made at the state and local level.

Pontiac, Mich. -- A mummified body was found in a garage of a Pontiac, Michigan, home. Investigators found her body in a vehicle that was parked in the garage and believe it has been there for at least six years. Even more puzzling is voting records show that the woman voted in November 2010 but investigators believe she died in 2008. The clerk for the city is blaming it on a computer error but her family thinks there was foul play and that she did not die from natural causes.

Indianapolis - Indiana´s House of Representatives has approved a proposal that would place the state´s gay marriage ban in the constitution. The House voted 57-40 Tuesday in favor of the measure. The proposed ban now heads to the Indiana Senate, where members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are set to take up the issue. The vote followed weeks of uncertainty for a measure that swept through the General Assembly with ease just three years ago.

A federal judge in South Bend has provided some last minute relief to a host of Catholic entities across northern Indiana. A preliminary injunction blocks enforcement of the so-called “contraceptive mandate” in the federal government’s Affordable Care Act. As a result, the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne now has what the University of Notre Dame was denied: Court ordered protection for employees from the contraception mandate due to take effect January 1st.

The president of Indiana University is criticizing a decision by the American Studies Association to endorse a boycott of Israeli universities. Michael McRobbie says the university plans to withdraw immediately as an ASA institutional member, saying such boycotts have a profound chilling effect on academic freedom. He says universities must be clear and unequivocal in rejecting them.

Richmond, Va. – The Chesterfield Marine who claimed he was wrongfully detained over posts he made to Facebook has filed a civil rights lawsuit against Chesterfield Police officers and other government workers, according to his attorneys from The Rutherford Institute. They claim Brandon Raub’s First and Fourth Amendment Rights were violated when FBI agents appeared at Raub’s Chesterfield home last summer. Raub claims the agents questioned him about his Facebok postings on the government’s version of 9/11 and the role of the Federal Reserve.

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

The Citizens Commission on Benghazi, a self-selected group of former top military officers, CIA insiders and think-tankers, declared Tuesday in Washington that a seven-month review of the deadly 2012 terrorist attack has determined that it could have been prevented – if the U.S. hadn´t been helping to arm al-Qaeda militias throughout Libya a year earlier. ´The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,´ Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline. Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning

Public Trust: Sixty-one percent polled say President Obama lies "some of the time" or "most of the time" on matters of national importance. Americans have to ask: Why do we let him get away with it? It´s no surprise that a Fox News poll of 1,012 registered voters last week found immense distrust of a president whose main domestic initiative was based on a lie. The shock is that the same poll found his disapproval level down to its lowest since last fall. Asked, "How often do you think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters?" 37% replied "most of
