| Charles Krauthammer: The Israelis always end up the ones looking on the wrong side of this because the world media are on the Palestinian side. And the Gaza Palestinians, Hamas, [are] very adept at the pornography of grief. They are quite useful. They kill civilians on the other side, as terror groups do, but they also invite the killing of their own people as a way to win the propaganda war. That´s why they put the weaponry, their rockets and their ammunition under houses, under schools, under hospitals and under mosques. They know the Israelis have to attack the weapons.

This Hamas rocket offensive is nothing more than an Iranian feint. The Iranians are financing this rocket barrage hoping to provoke an Israeli response which will be lambasted in the world media and at the UN. They are hoping and probably convinced Hamas that it might cause Netanyahu to lose reelection. In any case the Iranians are hoping that if Israel is bogged in Gaza or the court of world opinion, an attack on their nuclear program will be less likely.

Hezbollah watches with great interest to see if Israel is going to go wobbly as they plan their next moves. Shep Smith is one of the reasons I am losing interest in watching FOX. There is plenty of news, analysis, and opinions available on the net, I don´t need to listen to talking heads.

I heard Pink Lace Panty Shep Smith make his idiotic statement. I do not have any idea why Roger Ailes keeps that shameful POS on at FOX. He is the worst of the worst. Worse than Juan Williams.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
