As for ´influential government panels´ they can get stuffed. Isn´t all government influential, especially the corrupt kind?

So....cut back on breast cancer screening, cut back on prostate cancer screening and test everybody for HIV down to age 15.

I despise my government.

Why? HIV/AIDS is a protected disease with its own Civil Rights. There is nothing they can do? And how do they proposed to catch and test 330 Americans plus 20-40 million illegal aliens?

Think of it this way: look at all the Democrats who will be saved or who get to live longer and vote more.

And if you refuse? Vell, we haf ways of making you do vat ve vant.

Years ago, a co-worker came down with AIDS. He was very promiscuous. He turned into a raging activist, constantly insisting that were are ALL at risk!!!!!

I was (and still am) a celibate, non-drug taker who didn´t need transfusions. My chance of getting AIDS is zero.

My poor co-worker died of AIDS and all because of his own bad behavior. I may be at risk for other illnesses, but not AIDS, and it would be foolish and wasteful to test me.

I´m pretty much the same #5-well maybe not the celebate part, but I´ve only had one sex partner in 54 years. I see no reason to be tested for something I´m not at risk for and then pay for it.

It has always been important for the homosexual rights people to claim that AIDS is not a homosexual disease. But it is, for the most part. Although for political correctness reasons, blood donations were accepted from homosexual males, resulting in the deaths of people like Arthur Ashe, legendary tennis player, and Ryan White, both of whom received AIDS tainted blood.
The politics were so insane, that in the 1980s, NY State tested all pregnant women for HIV (the AIDS virus), but withheld the test results! And the Centers for Disease Control issued guidelines for dealing with AIDS patients, by requiring every patient to be approached as if he or she had AIDS.

So President Zero, who is suspected of operating on the down low, would want everyone tested. The costs would be in the tens of billions of dollars - do the math - and many those practicing homosexuals don´t get the test done now. They don´t want to know the results...

An "influential government panel", of people who wish to be very influential (read: "controlling") over the lives of other people. Isn´t it time to just say "No" to self-proclaimed "authority figures" who want to play God in the lives of other people?

Years ago, Rolling Stone had a two-part series on the AIDS crisis (right after the name was changed from "gay-related immuno-deficiency virus" or GRID). It quoted an investigator for the NY Public Health Dept. who went around and interviewed AIDS victims to try to find how they "acquired" the virus. She commented that there was almost always an IV drug or homosexual connection with the victims. 25 years later, that statement still holds.

And I say some of those in that 20-25% are lying. People lie to doctors all the time and we all pay for it. Some effective drugs have been taken off the market- and the drug companies sued- in part because patients aren´t always honest with their doctors about alcohol use.

If we could only classify obesity as a disease transmitted by same sex behavior, they wouldn´t dare take away our big gulps and twinkies.

How does he figure that? Just because they´re in ´treatment´ doesn´t mean they aren´t having sex and infecting those partners.

This already exists. While pregnant last year, I was FORCED to take an HIV test by my OB, not once but twice during my pregnancy. At first I refused, and pointed out that I have never had a blood transfusion and that I am happily married. I told the nurse I found the mere mention of such a test insulting. The nurse nodded sympatheically and told me it was required by the state and county and if I wanted to be a patient at their practice (one of the best in town) and if I wanted to give birth in the only hospital in the region that delivered babies, I would have to have the test. I did, I wanted a healthy baby and an epidural. I still find the whole episode infuriating. I was also required by the state to tell them if I smoked or not in order to be treated. This is a very good way for the nanny state to get information... start with vulnerable pregnant women and tell them if they want they want hospital care, they must submit. Scary times we live in. Agree with #9. Many don´t want to know - some of it has to do with the criminal transmission by a tested HIV positive person transmitting the disease ... and the loss of partners if they do disclose it.
Seems to keep coming back to allocation of resources these days. If there were all the resources in the world then I´m sure many would not object to trying to cure the disease, especially considering that there are those innocents, such as #9 named, that undeniably deserve being cured if possible. But as we stand peering over the cliff, as a nation, we are starting to understand that our resources are limited and thus allocation is a reality. As a nation we need to come up with a better process of allocation than the squeaky wheel.

Before we have mandatory testing for HIV, how about mandatory testing for drugs? I mean if it´s for the protection of everyone drugs and related crimes account for more deaths than AIDS.

The screenings would probably be done at some agency run by the government, entirely staffed by large round women of color. This would add new meaning to "sticking it to whitey". Unions would be involved, not to work of course, but just to skim off any profits and force excessive overtime. Staff not actually doing the sticking will be laughing and playing with their new Obama phones.

I feel really left out! At 66 I´m not so unattractive that I couldn´t find a couple of young guys to give the gift of AIDS...if I had it. Seriously, I feel lately like I´m living in the twilight zone.

I wonder if this subject has come up since blood banks have been authorized to take blood from anyone including the homos, bi´s, trans, lezzies. Is this another type of population control.

I am hounded by my health insurer, as is my doc, to submit to a battery of tests. They say it´s for my own health but really it´s to update their database.

The same database that will be used to place societal value of each citizen...
The only question is what they plan on doing with those of us too old or weak to rank highly.
