| Washington - A top Latino Republican strategist had harsh words for U.S. GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and joined other conservatives calling for immigration reform. Carlos Gutierrez, who led Romney´s Latino outreach during the presidential campaign, told CNN´s "State of the Union" he was "shocked" Romney last week blamed his overwhelming electoral loss on "gifts" U.S. President Barack Obama gave key groups, especially blacks, Latinos and young people. "(Snip)I think we lost the election because the far right of this party has taken the party to a place that it doesn´t belong.
|
Comments: And after he drops this bomb, he goes on to say he doesn´t know whether Romney realized how his remark about Obama´s gifts to special interest groups would affect the Latino vote. This guy was out there on CNN, going after Romney and cited as though he was a major player in Romney´s campaign. He was an "adviser", of which I expect there were many, and his primary loyalty is to his Latino constituency. And to immigration reform. And to himself. Sounds as though he has political aspirations of his own.

BS.
I´m all for reform. Issue how ever many visas and green cards as we think we need in a timely fashion. If that´s 1 million per month or whatever that number happens to be. Everyone else...enforce the law. No one has anything against immigrants, it´s the look the other way lawlessness that people can´t stand.

I would like to humbly suggest a Grand Compromise for the Grand Old Party. Immigrants who are here illegally plead guilty to a misdemeanor of crossing the border illegally, they can have no public assistance in any form for two years, then if they have a clean record and pay taxes, they will be declared to have paid their debt to society and will be given "legal status" and can have driver´s license (requiring insurance), they can hold jobs (provided they pay all the taxes) but can not vote (only lawfully admitted citizens can vote).

Just once I want to hear these clowns push for border security. Just once!
You want support from me? Fine, show support for our country first.

I do not care if he was only one of many "advisors." We have so many of these characters who end up backstabbing us. I´m convinced that this is an organized effort to divide and destroy from within. Another reason the party finds itself where it is today...

Wow - so this gentleman is shocked that Romney´s comments about gifts contributed to his losses and may have offended minorities. While it may not sound politically correct - many truths have been spoken by Mr. Romney. While it may not have been the only reason - it was a significant one. Since early this year when Mr. Obama started evolving - supports gay marriage, by passed the Congress and essentially granted amnesty to young illegals, guaranteed contraception free of charge to young women and used this to snare or shore up his support among these various groups - they were gifts. Keith Koffler has an excellent article on his site about Mars - everyone should read it. The armchair quarterbacking is incredible.

1. Amnesty is not reform. Reform is not amnesty. Clear enough? 2. Reform? OK, here it is -- legal applicants go through a clear, streamlined, proper screening; offer something [we have a surfeit of deadbeat takers] of value [skills, a record of achievement]; no extended family; recognize there´s no such thing as birthright citizenship, particularly as a reward for fraudulent entry; We the citizens get to pick who comes in. And there´s a probationary period. Maybe 10 years? Cross the line somehow? Break the law? All the green-card, steps toward naturalization, etc. are voided. Out you go. See Point 3 for forfeiture. What´s that? Tough. 3. Here illegally? See ya. 100% forfeiture of property here [keep the clothes on your back and a change of undies]. That´ll help address the insane costs illegals have created for honest, law-abiding citizens. 4. We didn´t invite you. We´re doing you one of the biggest favors possible in this life. Keep your nose clean, or you´ll learn some things that: a. you never suspected; and b. you never wanted.
There you go. It´s not complicated, really. Only summoning the will to do what´s right seems hard to achieve, and nearly impossible for politicians.

While giving the commencement address at the United States Coast Guard Academy, Vice President Joe Biden confused Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy with Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. This is a particular embarrassing mix-up for Biden, seeing as he recently worked closely with Malloy on gun reform measures.

New Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz doesn’t want to spend his tenure battling over climate science. “Let me make it very clear that there is no ambiguity in terms of the scientific basis calling for a prudent response on climate change,” Moniz told Energy Department employees shortly after his swearing-in. “I am not interested in debating what is not debatable,” Moniz said in his remarks at the Tuesday ceremony. “There is plenty to debate as we try and move forward on our climate agenda.”

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. (Snip) Because all six of our IRS workers have different individual and territory managers, Cindy Thomas is one manager they all have common.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Apple is one of America´s most profitable companies. And it pays a substantial income tax bill to the U.S. government -- by its own account, $6 billion in 2012 and an estimated $7 billion this year. But many tax experts and lawmakers say Apple´s tax bill should be bigger. A lot bigger. The concern is that Apple (Snip), while complying with U.S. laws, is nevertheless taking advantage of loopholes in the tax code to shift a substantial amount of income to offshore subsidiaries in low-tax countries. The result is billions of dollars in profits every year that go untaxed.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s
