How red-state governors are
opening the doors to Obamacare

Politico, by Jonathan Allen

Original Article

Bobby Jindal’s got a funny way of showing how much he hates Obamacare and Washington bureaucracy: The Louisiana governor’s about to invite the feds to set up a health insurance exchange right in his backyard. So is Rick Perry in Texas. Ditto for John Kasich in Ohio. And Scott Walker in Wisconsin. These Republican governors, and more than a dozen others in red states around the country, have decided it’s better to have Obamacare forced on them than to legitimize it by setting up their own exchanges, even if that means empowering the federal government at the expense of the states.

Comments:
I am not sure which way they should go. It´s like one of Chavez´s rigged elections where the opposition is not sure whether to participate or not.

This is a classic lose-lose situation. It doesn´t matter what happens, we the citizens lose and the states lose. This is like the famous words uttered by the driver of a car about to be in a wreck, ´Hold my beer and watch this!´

The states should stay as far away from 0bamacare as possible. When it turns out to be the disaster that we all know it will be, they don´t want to have to share in any of the blame.

There´s a method to the guvs´ madness. This bozo from Politico knows it, but would rather sow disinformation so he can get a chance to try our his knee pads at the next obama press conference.

When obamacare collapses, and it will collapse, better to have the furor directed in the right location.

It´s an expensive, complex operation that the states shouldn´t undertake. There are over 600 pages of federal regulation dealing with just the exchanges. This is the grandest shovel ready project ever for IT guys.

Don´t believe a word from Politico. It´s the exact opposite, if the Red-state governors excepts Obamacare then it would go through quickly. Since they´re not accepting it, then I think it will be tough for Obamacare to go through. That´s just how I´m looking at it.

the reason, previously pointed out:

"Section 1311 of the ACA provides for premium subsidies to insurance companies in state exchanges only. No such funding mechanism exists for a federal exchange, leaving the feds unable to offer the billions of dollars of taxpayer-funded subsidies needed to purchase insurance company support"

Gov.Kasich sent a letter to the fed.gov. that Ohio will retain all regulatory authority for Ohio;s Insurance industry and that we will retain control of Ohios Medicaid eligiblity detemination process.
His letter stated that Ohio will not operate a federally mandated exchange.
Ohio will not turn over to the fed.gov.the right to determine Medicaid and CHIP elegibility for its citizens
Ohio has no plans to run a state reinsurance program.
Ohio residence also voted to NOT participate in obamanotsomuchcare...

Bobby Jindal was just on Fox Sunday Morning and said as much. He is not wasting state dollars to set up something that is too expensive.

I live in Kentucky...I wish our numb-nuts governor were as smart...he´s another Obama loving mule. Governor Bashear is busy, busy, busy setting up our state exchange while we our state pensions are bleeding us dry, and we have a billion $ deficit in a state where the constitution does not allow it. Go figure.

This idiot author writes like the Feds have any authority in law to set up a federal exchange for a state, or that SCOTUS did not take away the "or else" when a state refuses to jump to their command & control.

Do some reading, jerk, and report all of the facts.

A writer from American Thinker explained these exchanges. Too much unknown for states to be signing on to a state exchange, and it´s going to be very expensive for them. No funds for a federal exchange so hopefully it will all collapse. Our governor didn´t sign on to a state exchange either, bless his heart!

As usual, Poltico is playing to its ignorant base. The feds want the states to be ´greeters´ only. Anything the state would try to include has to be approved at the fed level.
The populace will be able to see federal health care up close and personal. The feds will try, but there will be no way to blame these states for the mess that is being proposed. Although Politico will try.

I noticed right away that the AP, you know, the A-- Press, was using the same meme when reporting the first Republican Governors refusing to accept obamadon´tcare, that they were not willing to "help" their citizens who don´t have health insurance to find health insurance.

Politico is not a reliable source. Read it, if you must, but do not get sucked into it.

Sounds as though this reminder came too late for some.

The hands off governors are doing the right thing. And they are not "opening the doors to Obamacare". They are letting O&Co own it. It will be - at least for a while. Let it be his.

If Texas is not involved, Texas citizens don´t have to be involved. If the feds get ridiculous (and we all know they will), Texas can pass a law exempting all Texas citizens from having to follow the federal mandate. Then we can see how strong the 10th amendment is.

#8 has the correct answer, the Fed only allow the tax credit for STATE run HC exchanges. They would have to pass new provisions in Congress to allow for credit for Federal exchanges. That is not going to pass muster with Congress at this time. Also it is so clear why this was in the ACA to start with, even OBAMA is not going to overrule it with an Exec Order.

I´s guess we just too busy holden on to ours guns and Bibles to understand all them high falutin words you been sayin. /sarcasm

Anybody else think that that is EXACTLY how Johathan Allen saw us as he wrote this??? It´s it amazing that all the states with Republican governors who refuse to participate in this state´s right suicide are the ones with the most booming economies and the freest people? When NØbamacare implodes (which will surely be caused by those evil redneck Republicans in Mr. Allen´s eyes), those same Republican states will have the least effect and will, as always, ride out the disaster in the best shape.

It´s so ´´cute´´ when lie-berlas try to be ´´logical´´. They fail every time, because their brains are incapable of truly understanting logic, reason or facts. But let them keep trying, and let any average 4th grader find all the holes hin their ´´arugments´´...

There is not enough human competency in the HHS to write the Obamacare rules much less implement the system itself.

The end result will be utter chaos in our health care starting in 2014....if not before.

Good luck to the dem who wants to be president in 2016.

Remember that crazy organization chart with all the intersecting lines that was Hillarycare? The chart for Obamacare is even worse plus the Supreme Court threw a big monkey wrench into the scheme as drawn when it ruled the feds can´t order the states to expand Medicaid.

Liberal lawmakers and governors want immediate gratification by taking Obama money and setting up the exchanges..They´ll have the federal rope around their neck for years to come.

There´s a sizable difference between a state exchange and if the feds come in and do it due to a stupid loophole in the law.

The states that have federal exchanges will be sucking jobs away for the stupid states that accept Obamacare.

The idiot writing this article is trying to troll republican governors into caving.Republicans and conservatives think long term and will stick to their guns.

Reply 37 - Posted by: KTWO, 11/18/2012 3:39:57 PM     (No. 9022396)

Allen makes no sense.

But because he wants the governors to submit they clearly are doing exactly the right thing by resisting.

Apparently some oversights and/or drafting errors in the ObamaCare law have the feds frustrated. So they keep bullying the states to help them out.

As I understood it, the Feds can´t create the exchanges, only the states.

Does the regime expect the House to change that for them?

Even if a state sets up an exchange, it´s the Feds who will call the shots -- the states won´t control the exchanges. Why legitimize the sham?

An editorial at Investors.com Monday noted that, having succeeded twice at electing a candidate with a radical socialist background, Barack Obama’s political advisors have now moved from a goal of merely controlling the “narrative,” to one of control of the actual “news.” The “seizure of AP phone records and surveillance of Fox employees,” says the editorial, demonstrates the White House’s “real aim.” The editorial observes that Obama’s political advisors have reveled in their ability to work the media. Democracy: The IRS targeting of Tea Party groups is mind-boggling not only for its abuse of government power. It´s also disturbing for what it intended to do: destroy civil society, opening a door for tyranny. The formation in 2009 of hundreds of Tea Party groups at the rallying cry of CNBC news editor Rick Santelli, from places as diverse as Lowell, Mass., Pleasanton, Calif., Asheville, N.C., Yuma, Ariz., and Lincoln, Neb., among hundreds of others, was a spontaneous reaction by ordinary American citizens to an overspending, oversized government whose overreach called into question its constitutionality.

Many observers have pondered if the United States is following the same troubled path as Argentina. In the 1940s, Argentina’s Juan Domingo Perón used government agencies for political gain and created a popular form of fascism called Perónism. In the United States, the recent revelation of the Internal Revenue Service targeting political enemies is a bad omen. Are we on an Argentinean course? The road to decay in my native country, Argentina, began with the implementation of one of the most powerful collectivist doctrines of the 20th century: fascism.

CARACAS, Venezuela — First milk, butter, coffee and cornmeal ran short. Now Venezuela is running out of the most basic of necessities — toilet paper. Blaming political opponents for the shortfall, as it does for other shortages, the embattled socialist government says it will import 50 million rolls to boost supplies. That was little comfort to consumers struggling to find toilet paper on Wednesday. "This is the last straw," said Manuel Fagundes, a shopper hunting for tissue in downtown Caracas.
