Once upon a time, I found a recipe for a Twinkie cake. I cleaned out my local grocery store of all their supply. That thing required 18 packages.

Trust me on this. Some other company will pay a ton of cash for the Twinkies brand. Plus, they have a half-life of about seven years.

One report on the Twinkie Ebay "new capitalism" said the seller identified HIS Twinkies as a particularly good investment, because the "use by" date isn´t ´til 2057!

(Personally they looked AND TASTED much better when I got my start in the market, some 50 years ago. At the time, they were 13 cents for a 2-pack, no sales tax. But I wax nostalgic...)

Don´t count them out just yet. It is entirely possible that the employees can engineer an
employee owned and operated business and get funding from a BDC ( Business Develop Company )that sees value in the situation. I guarantee that the first document would include a mandate that no union ( other than the Teamsters ) is allowed to participate, so in effect, it could only happen in a right-to-work state. This would not be the first time that employees of a busted company gave
it new life under their own ownership. and the employees would be a much happier bunch of folks. Understandably, in order for this to work, the members of the Bakers union would have to leave the Union. Possibly they would do so in order to run their own business and their own lives.

Hostess isn´t a big enough company and so they have been run out of business (excessive regulations, high taxes, and continued rotten economy) by the socialists who don´t want free enterprise to exist anymore.

I´m not all that depressed about Hostess. I was never a twinkie fan, however, many years ago I used to enjoy their berry pie. I´ve tried several other brands of those type of pies, but always came back to Hostess. In recent years the quality of those confections dropped noticeably. I quit buying them.

Aren´t there generic versions of twinkies?

Twinkies... brings back happy memories of the halcyon days when my 125 pound German Shepherd and i would stop at the corner market --they, and other shops, and banks etc, would let our magnificent dog, affectionately known as "Mr. Perfect" come inside-- and buy a package of those tasty treats which we´d share on the walk home.

We didn´t do this often. It was a special treat.

My first favorite food was the
Twinkie. Mother would come back from the grocery with a treat food for each of us kids. I hoarded my Twinkies like they were gold. Some of the biggest fights in our household was over "Who ate my Twinkies?!" I now look at them and wonder what I ever saw in them. Now, to me, they are oily, spongy, doughy sugar lumps filled with greasy white sugar goo. Growing up just sucks!

Mom swears the first Twinkies she had in Chicago in the 30s had a banana flavored filling. She bought them for us, but pined for the banana. My favorite memories are of all the children I introduced Twinkies to before they were two (I never had my own children). Man filling in the ears, down the diapers, in the belly button. It was so much fun to eat them when the kids were that young. And yes, I bathed the kids, else the moms would have hated me. I can still hear my sister, 20 years ago about her twins "you gave each of them a WHOLE Twinky?".

They came back out with the Banana Twinkies when the King Kong movie came out about 6 years ago. I think my husband ate a box of those things every night...it was crazy.

Hostess chocolate cupcakes - that´s the best there ever was. But Ding Dongs were the second best. RIP.

Growing up in the burbs of Philadelphia, we were a Tastykake family. I´ve always preferred Tastykake products and thought they tasted moister and more home-made than Hostess baked goods. But because they were foreign to our household, they became more desirable at times.

My favorite Hostess memory is from Sunday School 50 years ago. When it was your Birthday, you went up front in the basement Sunday School room and a fake cake made of plaster of Paris and battery operated candles would be carried out and the classes would sing Happy Birthday. You then were presented with a package of Hostess Sno Balls-- usually white, but in later years, I think they became pink. That thick, coconut-embedded gelatinous (rubbery, really) goo, covering dry, chocolate, cream-filled cake, seemed like the most exotic treat in the world.

I think I´ll have to seek out some Sno balls tomorrow to once again experience that way more innocent time in my life....
