Now military retirees´
health care threatened

Washington Examiner [DC], by Paul Bedard

Hidden by the much bigger headline warnings about Obamacare´s impact, military retirees who have their own health care system are facing radical changes and cost hikes due to Pentagon budget cuts. In one of the most buzzed- and tweeted-about issues this week, the Pentagon is looking to dump 171,000 retirees out of the popular TRICARE Prime managed care program and into TRICARE Standard, the fee-for-service insurance option. The result could be significantly higher costs. A story on military.com revealed the military´s planning, explaining that retirees who live beyond 40-miles of a military base of medical facility will be hit.

...how about that... one week after the election.. and the Dems spit on our military.

And most voters fell for this.

IMHO congressmen and senators health care should take a hit before the military. This is a disgrace.

Of course it´s a disgrace, but what else do you expect from someone who detests the military? The whole dem party is complicit in this. Won´t even one of them stand up and fight for our retired veterans? I doubt it.

The GOP needs to make a huge issue about both this and the failure of DOJ to force the states to send ballots out in time for our service men and women to vote. The benefits of our soldiers are nowhere as good as the free benefits for most public employees. Obama fights to protect union benefits at taxpayer expense but won´t protect the contracted benefits of our military. What is truly despicable is that Obama was one of those who falsely accused Romney/Ryan of wanting to break the social contract of Social Security and Medicare.

#2: you are so right! They give themselves the best of the best, with no threats to their coverage and this is what they give the men and women who actually earn perks from this country.

Don´t forget how much the Dems screwed the military out of the ObamaCare like coverage for thier under age 26 uninsured children!

Reply 11 - Posted by: fireman28, 11/15/2012 7:28:59 PM     (No. 9017136)

I´m not for Obama; but this information has been available to military members for a year.

Its just now, that he got reelected, the hornets nest is becoming irritated. Plus, retired getting medical care "on-base" is mostly fiction. Any extra medical people are overseas, not here.

And many civilians in the post-draft era (since ´72) have no clue that "free medical for life" was one of the enlistment promises for retirees.

Reply 12 - Posted by: TheMotherCO, 11/15/2012 7:33:39 PM     (No. 9017141)

I am or was surprised until I thought about it and what else can we expect? We have college students, teachers that tell them they are entitled to the very best without working for it - our military is our backbone and is far more worth any amount of money than the worthless senators, reps and civil servants that get large salaries and great benefits. Cut them off of the federal giveaways, make the senators and reps share offices with one secretary and no retirement pay and term limits.

I am not surprised that only some will be kicked out of the Prime plan.

That is the future in Obama´s America, some are more equal even among military retirees.

An age old tactic is to divide a portion and punish them by citing some almost plausible reason for the division.

That cows and confuses the remainder. Their turn comes later.

We have had Tricare Standard since Hubs retired in 1993; you could not pay me to sign up for Tricare Prime.

This is what I get for my 26 years. I knew I should have lateraled over to the Australian coast guard 20 years ago.

And this is why I´ve got nothing to give but to animal charities. Takers and users can just deal with it - like I have to.

Anybody that voted for Zippy has no right to complain about anything.

If Zippycare is so great, why aren´t federal employees like Congress on it ?
No exemptions.

Like I said before, Barry wants "I served in Vietnam" Kerry as DoD secretary so he can kill off the military.

Gen. John Allen has been appointed special U.S. envoy on security issues in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. He will not mediate between the parties; his work will almost exclusively involve contacts with Israel. Allen will deal with the U.S. position on Israeli security needs and the security arrangements that would accompany the establishment of a future Palestinian state. Senior U.S. and Israeli officials note that while U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel made the appointment it was coordinated with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who is leading the effort to restart Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
