| CHAPEL HILL -- Starting next fall, students at UNC-Chapel Hill will be able to live in dorm rooms and apartments with roommates of the opposite gender. The UNC-CH Board of Trustees unanimously endorsed “gender-neutral” housing after a yearlong push by students who said the move was necessary to give gay, lesbian and transgender students a place free of harassment. Chancellor Holden Thorp said the housing option would be implemented next fall. Students will be able to apply for the option of choosing roommates of either gender in campus dorms and apartments.

Both my husband and I are graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill. It´s the #1 college choice for our 15 year old daughter who was born and raised in Chapel Hill. I´ve always wanted my children to attend my alma mater, we got solid educations back in the 80s - before the inmates took over the asylum.
We just moved away, lived there for 30 years. Disgusted with the crazy liberals, the indoctrination of our children in the overstated school system, and the skyrocketing property taxes on our home, which were up to $800/month!!! This is NC- not the French Riviera!
This is the last straw. My terrific, sensible daughter will not be exposed to these idiots.

# 2 --- wasn´t it that great school which decided recently not to use the word "freshman" anymore because they had the weird idea that a college freshman refers only to males.
Political correctness has destroyed that university.

#4 and #5 - nutty doesn´t begin to describe it. Total loss of any connection to reality which results in a generation (or more) of complete flakes with no ability to delineate right from wrong, sensible from ridiculous. It makes me sad and furious at the same time. This is another result of tenure tracks.
I could tell you stories about some of the grade school kids my own children had classes with that would curl your hair. One of my daughter´s middle school classmates boasted to the entire class that he was a "Democratic Socialist!" Can you imagine?! Whatever the heck that is . . . . You know he got that from his parents. Mind boggling.

I think "Democratic Socialist" is the description that is used in Chicago for communist-mentored political office holders. The Communist Party USA (CPUSA) always held that the old Soviet Union was a true democracy. They also couched their ideas in American terms like "liberty" and "freedom" to make them acceptable to dupes.

The Internal Revenue Service controversy dogging President Barack Obama is hardly the first time a White House and the tax agency have been accused of political meddling and bias. Over the past week, Republicans have been trying to link Obama to what the IRS has acknowledged was improper extra scrutiny of conservative political groups seeking tax-exempt status. That’s despite the fact that little — if anything — has surfaced to suggest White House officials had advance knowledge of the IRS actions. The line between IRS misconduct and the Oval Office appears less fuzzy in IRS political incidents in previous administrations.

Charlotte-based Belk Inc. found itself in the middle of an online battle between political partisans this week, when an ad featuring the company ran on conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s radio program. The fight highlights the fine line companies walk with advertising and social media. The ad featuring Belk was apparently first noticed Monday by a group on Facebook that monitors Rush Limbaugh’s advertisers in an effort to pressure the talk show host financially. On Tuesday, the liberal website Daily Kos mentioned the ad in a posting. People started posting messages on Belk’s Facebook page protesting the ad.

The White House held an off-the-record briefing with reporters on Friday afternoon to discuss recent revelations about the Benghazi investigation, sources familiar with the meeting tell POLITICO. The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing to 1:45 p.m. White House press secretary Jay Carney did not respond to a request for confirmation of the meeting. The off-the-record session was announced to reporters in the wake of an ABC News report showing that White House and State Dept. officials were involved in revising the now-discredited CIA talking points about the attack on Benghazi.

John McCain is going to release a bill that would dismantle cable as it´s currently constructed, Brenden Sasso at The Hill reports. The legislation would force cable companies and satellite TV providers to give consumers an option to pick and choose which channels they get. This is called "à la carte programming," and it´s long been a dream of consumers who only want a handful of channels. McCain tried to introduce similar legislation in 2006 and it went nowhere.

The Republicans, apparently with nothing better to do, are still chasing their tails over the tragic events in Benghazi on September 11.Actually, no. That’s not true. They’re chasing their tails over what happened after the tragic events of September 11. They’re mostly concerned that the Obama Administration tried to cover up the fact that this was a terrorist attack by a local militia (translation: local street gang) which aspired toward bad-butt Al Qaeda status. This is a pretty hard sell since, the day after the attack, the President called it an “act of terror.”

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
