´gender neutral´ housing option

CHAPEL HILL -- Starting next fall, students at UNC-Chapel Hill will be able to live in dorm rooms and apartments with roommates of the opposite gender. The UNC-CH Board of Trustees unanimously endorsed “gender-neutral” housing after a yearlong push by students who said the move was necessary to give gay, lesbian and transgender students a place free of harassment. Chancellor Holden Thorp said the housing option would be implemented next fall. Students will be able to apply for the option of choosing roommates of either gender in campus dorms and apartments.

Comments:
They are worried about discrimination at Chapel Hill. If a transgendered kid isn´t free from harassment at Commie occupied Chapel Hill.....

Both my husband and I are graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill. It´s the #1 college choice for our 15 year old daughter who was born and raised in Chapel Hill. I´ve always wanted my children to attend my alma mater, we got solid educations back in the 80s - before the inmates took over the asylum.

We just moved away, lived there for 30 years. Disgusted with the crazy liberals, the indoctrination of our children in the overstated school system, and the skyrocketing property taxes on our home, which were up to $800/month!!! This is NC- not the French Riviera!

This is the last straw. My terrific, sensible daughter will not be exposed to these idiots.

# 2 --- wasn´t it that great school which decided recently not to use the word "freshman" anymore because they had the weird idea that a college freshman refers only to males.

Political correctness has destroyed that university.

#3 - yes, you´re correct. They now call them "first-year students, second-year students" and so on. It would be terrible to offend their precious psyches.
Yes indeed, PC gone absolutely wild.
Give me a break!!

#4 and #5 - nutty doesn´t begin to describe it. Total loss of any connection to reality which results in a generation (or more) of complete flakes with no ability to delineate right from wrong, sensible from ridiculous. It makes me sad and furious at the same time. This is another result of tenure tracks.

I could tell you stories about some of the grade school kids my own children had classes with that would curl your hair. One of my daughter´s middle school classmates boasted to the entire class that he was a "Democratic Socialist!" Can you imagine?! Whatever the heck that is . . . . You know he got that from his parents. Mind boggling.

I think "Democratic Socialist" is the description that is used in Chicago for communist-mentored political office holders. The Communist Party USA (CPUSA) always held that the old Soviet Union was a true democracy. They also couched their ideas in American terms like "liberty" and "freedom" to make them acceptable to dupes.

On Pascua Yakui Indian Reservation, Ariz. — Tribal police chief Michael Valenzuela drove through darkened desert streets, turned into a Circle K convenience store and pointed to the spot beyond the reservation line where his officers used to take the non-Indian men who battered Indian women. “We would literally drive them to the end of the reservation and tell them to beat it,” Valenzuela said. “And hope they didn’t come back that night. They almost always did.” About three weeks ago, at 2:45 a.m., the tribal police were called to the reservation home of an Indian woman who was allegedly

More than 600 teachers have walked out of Wake County Schools since the start of the school year. The school district says people are leaving for many reasons. Some for jobs in other states. Others are getting out of the profession entirely. However, many have a common reason -- not enough pay.Thursday´s announcement came as the debate over teacher pay escalates. North Carolina teachers haven´t had a pay increase in five years. They currently rank among the lowest paid in the country. School leaders say they´re seeing a 41 increase in teacher resignations over the same period last year, and teachers

A new lawsuit alleges that “X-Men” director Bryan Singer sexually abused an underage boy at a lurid California sex party. The bombshell suit claims the director of blockbuster hits like “Superman Returns” used his position in Hollywood to exploit young men by taking part in a sex ring. The lawsuit, filed by attorney Jeff Herman, charges that Singer attended parties at a mansion in Encino, California where adult males did drugs and had sex with teenage boys. The teen mentioned in the suit never consented to sexual relations with Singer and often persisted, it states, according to a press release from Herman’s

An 89-year-old Navajo woman wants the land she´s lived on all her life to be left to her family once she dies. But here´s the catch; she lives inside a national park, and age-old conflicts between the family and the National Parks Service may prevent that from happening. Stella Peshlakai Smith, who barely speaks any English, was born in what is now the Wupatki National Monument north of Flagstaff in 1924, a month before the land became part of a national park. Her daughter, Helen Peshlakai Davis, says it´s home to her. "There´s no other place that I want to call

The TCM (Turner Classic Movies) cable channel celebrated its twentieth anniversary yesterday. It did so in grand style, rebroadcasting movies from its first day on the air (Gone With the Wind and It Happened One Night). After GWTW, TCM broadcast an interesting interview with host-for-life Robert Osborne conducted by Alec Baldwin. I have been a high volume consumer of TCF roughly since day one. I am a little vague on Ted Turner’s acquisition of the rights to just about every worthwhile movie ever made, but with TCM, he is putting them to good — even ingenious — use. The films

Authorities said Monday that a pair of sex offenders suspected of raping and murdering at least four women probably wore their court-ordered GPS devices during the crimes. Franc Cano, 27, and Steven Dean Gordon, 45, had been required to wear the devices after serving time in prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14. Police on Monday also said that they are now “confident” that there is a fifth victim -- and perhaps more -- in a string of slayings that has been tied to a pair of registered sex offenders. The men were formally Monday charged

Some time back, whenever a big racial controversy erupted, I trained myself into the habit of reading about it at FoxNews.com, just for the unbelievable comment threads. Let’s put it this way: If my friends and I went out to a bar and started playing a “let’s write the racist FoxNews.com comment thread” drinking game, our efforts couldn’t begin to approach what I read there.I wasn’t alone. Liberal websites started feasting on these threads. And so, a couple of years ago, Ailes & Co. got wise. Stories about race were, at least in my disheartened experience, closed to comments.

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our
